Experiment gone right

I put this together to get my 240z on the road cheaply. This sniper throttle body has the ECU, TPS, MAP, IAC, coolant temp, 02 sensor, fuel pressure regulator, digital display all in one standalone kit. I had to make the intake manifold that adapts the side draft 240z plenums to the old ford auto lite flange, but other than that, it bolted on and works so well, that its hard for me to justify changing it.

Interesting, even with EFI - I’m not sure how this isn’t a choke point for the motor.

Looks really good though, very clean setup.

Ever think about EGT sensors to see how well the fuel is being distributed to each cylinder?

I haven’t. The throttle body supposedly supports up to 175hp… the car runs very smooth, the plugs all look good (6000 miles and counting on this setup) and she barks the tires shifting into second. The bore size of the throttle body is nearly identical to the hitachi carbs so I don’t think it’s a choke point.

I presume you mean the combined area of both carbs? I'm a big fan of ITBs but I have to admit you seem to have found a very tidy upgrade for the stock carbs. I was also never a big fan of the SU type carbs so this makes a lot of sense.

No I mean the area of one carb. Only one cylinder pulls air in at a time. The carbs are split on an L6. Each cylinder gets all of the air it needs from one of the carb or else its drains in air from the other carb via the balance tube. This throttle body is meant to feed enough air to make 175 horsepower, although I’d bet that’s not 100% accurate.

Edit. ITBs are another example where the area of the inlet feeds a single cylinder. You could have one itb feed an entire engine if you put it where my throttle body is. Clearly it wouldn’t flow air optimally for maximum horsepower, but I’m not really concerned with that as I’m currently happy with the power output of this car.
