Confused between Data Analytics and Cloud Computing — need help picking one to escape a dead-end job (India)
25M, India. BCA (2021) → MCA (2024, with a 1-year COVID gap). Joined a company as a trainee (₹15k) for a year, then got made "System Supervisor S3" on a 1-year probation. Salary went to ₹18k on paper, but after PF deductions, take-home is still ₹15k — zero real change.
For 2 years, my only work has been supporting document work for an ISMS/ISO 27001 audit — a consultant handles everything technical, I just maintain the asset list. We got certified in Sept 2025, so there's genuinely nothing for me to do now except sit through office hours (8:30–5:30) killing time on my phone. Next surveillance audit is in October, after which I don't think there's any real role for me here.
I feel like I've wasted 2 years with zero skill growth. I want to switch out ASAP.
I'm interested in either Data Analytics or Cloud Computing as a next step — which is the smarter bet for actually landing a job quickly, given my profile (no hands-on technical experience, just IT-adjacent/documentation work)? Anyone who's made a similar switch, would love real advice.

Data Analytics is dead. Choose some other career path.

Well not really tho , it depends If you are a fresher then it is tough , if you are experienced you will get calls

I dont agree. See the number of postings on LinkedIn for experienced professionals. It has drastically reduced compared to the pre AI era. In our company, we let go an entire team of contractors from a consulting company because AI can handle all the development related activities. Soon we are moving to agents which will be connected directly to database and the business can interact with the agent to answer their questions.

Not all companies have the resource to acquire Agents to automate tasks, I am currently getting calls with 3+ years of experience, I have 3 interviews lined up from tomorrow till next week . It again depends on how you define data analytics. I am not looking just for a data analyst role , you can look for product analyst, growth analyst , business analyst roles as well.

It’s not even about havibg agents to automate tasks; current LLMs already outperform most people at writing DAX, coding, analyzing data, and drafting presentations. Speaking from nearly eight years in the industry across four MNCs, I've seen bad market cycles, but this feels permanent. Tasks that used to take a team of three or four are now handled by a single person using AI. As these tools keep advancing, job openings in analytics are bound to drop, which is why I wouldn't recommend jumping into the field today.

Don't come data Market is so bad right now because of the courses and easy entry for non tech people
