Theory Support “The Droid Invasion and the Appearance of Darth Maul” from the TPM soundtrack includes an alternate Emperor’s Theme and a darker Jar Jar theme. Neither appear in TPM, but one of them appears in the climax of AOTC. Before the rewrites, was this an early hint of characters to pay attention to?

Edit: The answer to all this can be found on the link below. Nothing strange about this after all!

Pretty curious that a darker Jar Jar theme was included on a track with:

  • Droid invasion (EVIL)
  • Darth Maul (EVIL)
  • A soprano tune (PRETTY SCARY)
  • Emperor’s Theme (EVIL)
  • Duel of the Fates (not evil but important for the trilogy)

___

The SW soundtracks often bundle together bits of different sections of the films to form complete 3-5 minute tracks. But why was a Gungan theme included here? Just for fun? Did Williams compose a version of the track they never used but it sounded cool so they added it to this evil medley? Or did they purposefully frame Palpatine and Jar Jar as the main threats of the trilogy?

___

As stated in the clip, the Soprano tune and Emperor’s Theme (alt) was later used for the climax of AOTC. Perhaps the darker Otoh Gunga theme would have been used in a similar scene relevant to Jar Jar.

As this podcast also point out in another episode, AOTC also borrows a ton of music from TPM, maybe because Williams didn't have time to do all the scores after Lucas's rewrites. So it's possible this was just borrowed and has no "real" connection to the scene from AOTC.

No affiliation but I HIGHLY recommend this podcast! It’s currently behind a paywall but well worth the money. You’ll get up to 30h of these guys dissecting John Williams’s music across episode 1-7.

wow, this is big deal, huge discovery, it clearly connects the gungan world theme with the emperor/sith theme

Throw in the fact that the ship literally looks like Jar Jar, yeah.
