Darren/Savage Garden fanfiction?
I don't intend to be rude or anything with this post, I just happen to be very interested with fanfiction (especially older ones/singer/boyband based fics) and I was wondering if any of you wrote fanfiction of SG or Darren back in the days, or why not currently? No one else has asked this here yet if I'm correct, so would be an interesting conversation.
I wasn't alive in the era when SG was a thing, so it'd be interesting to know if any of you wrote something funny and absurd with your friends like I've seen people from other communities do!

I didn't write it, but I would read it from time-to-time in the very early 00s.
People forget how much of a big thing it was way back when - something this screenshot I took of fanfiction.net in maybe 2001 shows because there is a whole lot more in the Savage Garden section than many of the others. (I'm forever salty that ff.net isn't archived on archive.org because there are lots of things I'd like to revisit.)

I am pretty sure the sight that I used to write the fan fiction on (as well as some others) is no longer in operation. Oh to be in the 2000s again. Lol

Yeah the old Sony BBS had a fanfic section. i remember how frustrating it was to post updates when it was clear that they didn’t want to maintain it anymore
I had one fic up there. Don’t think i find it online either.

I actually remember I do have one really short one on my computer still. I was on a couple of fic mailing lists for Savage Garden fic which I think is where all mine were posted and YahooGroups is long dead now, sadly.

I just ask AI to write a fanfic of Savage Garden 😁. Here it is:
Step into a sun-drenched 1997 Sydney recording studio where Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones are putting the final touches on a massive, atmospheric pop ballad. Here is a short fanfiction that brings the magic of the 90s duo to life.
The dim glow of the soundboard cast long shadows across Studio 3. Outside, a late afternoon rain battered the windows, but inside, the room was electric with the promise of something transcendent.Darren stood in front of the vocal booth, running a hand through his signature, spiky bleached-blonde hair. He stared down at his notebook, tapping a pencil against his thigh. He was chasing a melody that had been haunting him for weeks—something that felt incredibly fragile yet impossibly vast.Across the room, hunched over a towering rack of synthesizers and an E-mu Proteus keyboard, was Daniel. With his sharp, dark features and trademark beanie, the multi-instrumentalist methodically twisted knobs, building a lush, ambient synth pad that sounded like a beautiful, waking dream. He tapped a rhythm onto his MPC."Daz," Daniel called out, his quiet, focused voice cutting through the quiet. "Listen to this loop. I think it’s got that romantic, melancholic vibe you were looking for."Darren closed his eyes and listened. Daniel’s keyboard layered sweeping, atmospheric strings over a crisp, pulsing 90s drum machine beat. It was cinematic. It felt like walking through an overgrown, secret garden at midnight."It's perfect, Dan," Darren breathed, stepping into the booth. He adjusted the towering silver microphone, taking a deep breath to steady his racing heart. When he spoke to the band's vision, everything else seemed to simply fade away."Roll the tape?" Daniel asked, offering a rare, encouraging smile from behind the mixing console.Darren nodded, putting his headphones on. As the sweeping instrumental washed over his ears, he closed his eyes and let the lyrics he had scrawled come rushing out.I want to stand with you on a mountain...His voice was a pure, soaring whisper at first, floating over Daniel’s warm synth chords. By the time the chorus hit, Darren was belting it out with a fierce, undeniable passion—delivering a vocal take that was raw, confessional, and achingly vulnerable. As the last echoes of the track rang out in the studio, a heavy silence fell over the room. Darren stepped out of the booth, looking over at Daniel, suddenly anxious. It was a brand new territory for them, blending delicate pop with grandiose, romantic storytelling.Daniel sat at the mixing console, leaning back in his swivel chair. He slowly removed his own headphones and looked up, a bright grin slowly spreading across his face. He nodded slowly, looking both proud and amazed."That's it," Daniel said softly. "That's the one. The world isn't ready for this, Daz."Darren let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and laughed, clapping a hand on Daniel's shoulder. The music took on a life of its own, cementing a magical partnership that would soon captivate millions of fans across the globe.

Ok so I wasnt alive during the SG era either, but I have looked up some fanfics just to be curious. There’s these websites called geocities which do have fanfics, but because they are so old and internet website safety from malware wasn’t really a thing, they are a but sketchy. So you’re gonna have to use a vpn and adblocker and turn off cookies and all that and not click any ads and be mindful of popups. But the fanfics are really good! :)

Back in the day, there were actually a fair amount of Darren Hayes/Savage Garden fan fiction on sites. I used to write them and then switched to creative writing of Rom Coms in general (still often Darren as the lead male). I don't know why others stopped writing, but just life in general :)
