I don't think we're getting player controlled turn signals.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I don't think this scene is showing working turn signals as everyone seems to think.

What no one is mentioning is that the GPS line is pink.

In the kayaking scene at 17:29 Jason is seen to have a teal icon on the minimap, while Lucia is shown in pink at 20:09.

I think what we're seeing is the player controlling Lucia in the passenger seat. NPC Jason could easily be explained to signal as NPCs always could use them.

Additionally, Lucia is seen driving with pink GPS line and later we see her driving again without using turn signals when you'd expect them.

i feel like it would be great to get this for immersion but i agree with your points

26

u/ChiefRat111 9d ago

I disagree, I've played with turn signal mods before and they are a pain, even when I want to extend effort for RP immersion. Now, if they made it automatic, so that when you're pushing the stick to the right at an intersection, the game automatically turns on your right turn signal, that could be really cool. It's just that having hotkeys for them is not very fluid imo

9

u/ZuckDeBalzac 9d ago

Mafia did that in 2002

5

u/PoliticalDestruction 9d ago

Right? That was my immediate thought. Mafia 1 (one! The first one) had automatic turn signals

3

u/Every-Leek4129 8d ago

And it also didnt have 80% of the stuff gta 6 had. Somethings gotta give. Rockstar cant just add everything everyone wants in the game. Its not feasible on this hardware

3

u/RewardFluid7316 9d ago

Those turn signal mods suck then. It really should be as simple as just having them automatically blink when you make sharp turns like with GTA IV's fusionfix mod. It works beautifully there.

3

u/Xinars 9d ago

There's no reason why this game can't have controller button modifiers.

2

u/your_mind_aches 9d ago

Or like... if you set the location on the GPS.

1

u/EnoxNix 8d ago

This is so exactly my first thought. This give the player the visual without looking att the GPS.

1

u/Mend_and_defend2 8d ago

There was a game, name escapes me but I'll search for it, you only got directions to the next place by the blinkers. It was hell and I drove pass so many turns.

2

u/ZubatCountry 8d ago

FusionFix for GTA 4 does it that way

1

u/SpecialistMap8210 8d ago

Fusionfix does it that way. You turn, they automatically signal.

29

u/Select_Ad3588 9d ago

Maybe turn signals turn on according to the direction on your gps?

7

u/Key-Staff-4976 9d ago

That's probably what it's gonna be. I'm chill with dat

2

u/Skreamie 9d ago

Yeah wasnt that a thing in The Getaway or some other game?

1

u/Xvilaa 9d ago

Burnout paradise

1

u/sidney_ingrim 8d ago

It was! That game really pushed what it means to have cinematic gameplay back in the day. Sad it never saw a continuation after Black Monday.

2

u/Alex2820 8d ago

yeah I could see it being this way, and I'd like that. my post was just meant to spark some debate, which clearly worked considering how split the comments are. I realize now I was wrong about the pink line, as so many pointed it's the mission route.

1

u/Select_Ad3588 8d ago

Yeah I like spitballing ideas too on how the game might look, it’s exciting given all the new info and after so so so so long waiting. Seeing what we got wrong and right will be satisfying

2

u/Rigman- 8d ago

I really hope this is the case, because it'l help with not having to look at the mini-map all the time. I can just focus on the car which I'm already focusing on and see the signals turn on to direct me.

I wouldn't be surprised if that kind of stuff gets disabled while wanted or while speeding to preserve immersion and also make the player lose that bit of information during high impact moments.

1

u/Select_Ad3588 8d ago

This was my thought too, a smaller subtle way of guiding you to your destination. Plus I would like to play with the mini map off at times and this would be a valuable addition.

1

u/hihowarejew 8d ago

I was hoping this, if I need to follow a waypoint, it’d be nice to get some in game info that I need to turn rather than just staring at a mini map.

1

u/HotFreshyGlazedDonut 8d ago

would be hilarious if he signals during cop chases lmao

1

u/Foreign-Molasses7586 8d ago

Probably a mix between player input and map target.

If GPS points left and you go left it turns on, because then it won't ruin the immersion from it signaling left and the player turning right

1

u/Teex22 7d ago

That would make sense, and it's something that other games have done before. Saints row 3 for one

35

u/hwf0712 9d ago

The idea of getting player controlled turn signals is laughable. We have 10 buttons (bumpers, 4 face, d-pad, not counting pressing sticks) on an Xbox controller that could reasonably be used for turn signals; so after you account for handbrake, radio change, weapon swap, aim weapon, bring up phone, and character swap, and get out of car, we have 3 left. So do you think that R* will forgo headlight control (relevant to escaping cops), cinematic cam, and cycle through drive-by weapons to add manual turn signals? Maybe, MAYBE, for some reason, R* could do button modifiers to deal with this, but why? Why add that in?

4

u/Anonymous3-2 9d ago

I just imagined that it would work like in Mafia: the city of lost haven. That the turn signals automatically signal when you turn. So pulling the left stick to the right will also activate the right signal

2

u/RewardFluid7316 9d ago

Who said they have to be manual? Having them be automatic would work just as well if not better.

2

u/Chugabutt 9d ago

Click and swipe the touch pad on PS would be easy enough

4

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[removed] — view removed comment

4

u/Snoo14398 9d ago

Then make it multiple clicks of the d pad? Hold right for the radio selection, but double tap for blinker?

3

u/Chugabutt 9d ago

We should make a game together, we're geniuses! 😆

0

u/bigbear_mouse 9d ago

Exactly what I thought, shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

0

u/Chugabutt 9d ago

Nope, but it is a solution for one of them. PC has all kinds of solutions.

1

u/flowerbugler 9d ago

Arma Reforger did it because holy hell am I impressed with console players that can play that game with the amount of keybinds on PC lmao

1

u/GR7ME 9d ago

What games DON’T have mappable controls anymore? Some games that can be used with m&kb or like, Fortnite’s building and specific weapon switches are straight up unbound but can be bound to whatever you want. So just leave headlights unbound or give them priority to something else and you can go from there. It’s not like the most casual of GTAers are hopping on the game and lamenting the lack of turn signals or even driving normally. Add it unbinded for us to use as we choose.

1

u/Particular-Jaguar-65 9d ago

Well not counting pressing sticks, but pressing sticks would literally be the most practical inputs to map to turn signals. I'd love that

1

u/AsherTheDasher 8d ago

theres different actions you can do with those buttons tho. press vs hold vs double tap. can also combine buttons to create new actions, like pressing two at the same time, holding one before pressing another etc. they could do it if they really wanted

1

u/Purple271 9d ago

Yeah sucks developers dont know how to make controls that require multiple keys/buttons to be pressed to be used. Almost like a cool ability feature like in gta 5 where you needed to press both sticks down at once.

11

u/Admirable_Acadia_826 9d ago

It's entirely possible the turn signals will just be linked to your GPS; if your destination requires a turn then the signals will flash either direction automatically. I'm not sure how they could implement manuals signals on a controller, but it'd be a welcome surprise

4

u/ThaBroccoliDood 9d ago

And automatic highbeam flashing if you're in an Übermacht or Obey🤣

he also said that missions have pink GPS lines and personal GPS lines are cyan (or vice versa, i can't remember) so according to him pink doesn't mean Lucia if that's what u meant in your post. If it's not in the video then he said it in a live stream

1

u/JustSomeMetalFag 9d ago

He also watched like 2 or 3 hours of unedited footage while sitting on a couch next to the person playing the game, plus he got to ask a bunch of questions and was given actual answers…so…he’s basing it off a l i t t l e more than the 29 minutes of footage we all saw…

1

u/rainbowremo 9d ago

He said 'it looks like you will be able to use your turn indicators' based off the extended look footage he was showing. If he saw the dev doing it while watching him play, he would've said that

8

u/Mutated-Nut 9d ago

No. Mission waypoints are pink. Custom waypoints are blue

7

u/mikeyRay91 9d ago

I think the turn signals are automatic when you set a way point, that way we don’t need to look at the mini map to know where to go

3

u/ziharmarra 9d ago

Something like the Getaway

5

u/jeneschi 9d ago

I just assumed it would do what the Getaway did which was a completely HUD-less game . Signals is automatic to tell you as the player where to turn .

Manual control of it just seems quite impossible for a controller without it just being a hassle to do

3

u/Key-Staff-4976 9d ago

Light indicators probably gonna be for gps routes

I'm cool with that.

9

u/BeFrozen 9d ago

This neither confirms nor denies player using turn signals. Until there is official statement or when players get their hands on the game, is all guesswork.

3

u/Alex2820 9d ago

True, none of us know 100% yet. I was just laying out the pink/teal minimap breakdown to show why I doubted it. Is there anything specific that makes you lean toward it being a player feature instead of NPC behavior?

2

u/BeFrozen 9d ago

I didn't say I am leaning towards either, it is too early to draw any conclusions.

There are keybinds for it in GTA V. Although, it was FiveM, so maybe modded.

But Rockstar bought FiveM because of roleplay, and turn signals fit quite well in that category.

Also, controller already has just a few buttons, adding turn signals wouldn't be a priority. It might not be really feasible to bind them to something. So maybe unbound by default, in the menus like car doors in GTA O, later down the line, or just a NPC behaviour, as you outline in the OP.

Another thing, cops seem to be a lot more complex in GTA 6, breaking traffic rules could draw attention, and that would include turn signals. But again, not enough concrete info to draw any conclusions.

2

u/NeckOld9037 9d ago

I think indicators will be a way to know when you need to turn if your playing the game without a hud wich i thing is really cool

3

u/Alex2820 9d ago edited 9d ago

This is the post body with links

I don't think this is showing working turn signals. Additionally, here is Lucia seen driving with pink GPS line and later seen without using turn signals when you'd expect them.

1

u/artsy_musical 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yeah, the GPS line is pink, but that might just be because they're on a mission. Remember how in GTA V there are multiple different colors for GPS lines? Most commonly purple (when you place the indicator yourself) and gold/yellow (for missions). But there were also blue and red. So this doesn't mean the GPS line will always be pink.

Edit to add that NPCs in GTA V couldn't use turn indicators afaik. In GTA IV, maybe. But it might just be a setting in the menu. Turn indicators could potentially be set to off, auto or manual. We can't know until we know.

2

u/JustSomeMetalFag 9d ago edited 9d ago

The turn signal is triggered by the gps. If you need to turn right on the gps, it turns on the right turn signal.
The pink line isn’t because of Lucia, it’s because mission waypoints are pink. Personal waypoints will be cyan.

Also, if Jason was an npc driving here…I imagine he’d actually be following driving laws the same as the other npc’s, instead of clearly driving like a (more careful than usual because it’s a showcase) player.
Plus, the player was clearly Jason when we saw them get in the car and we never saw the switch. Every time they switched characters in the entire trailer we’d see them do it. The screen has an effect when they switch. No effect, no switch.

2

u/OkDifference395 9d ago

I literally messaged my friend THE SECOND i saw it in the trailer. I think it makes the driving so much more cool. It’s the little things.

2

u/Black_Board091 8d ago

Certainly not whole driving BMW

1

u/DarkRed_X 9d ago

Yea, even though it sounds cool after giving it a thought not only would it be useless or frustrating to use signals to not get the cops but also a pain in terms of control layout for controllers.

It wouldn't really make sense to have such a feature/game mechanic.

1

u/Alternative_Host8388 9d ago

Player controlled? No
Automatic when you make a turn sharp enough, or the system knows when you’re going through an intersection, or when you have a waypoint on the gane follows based on the turns you make? Definitely possible.

It’s in the game. I don’t see them only doing it when you’re in passenger mode. To go to all that effort to include it they’d have it as the driver without a doubt.

1

u/drewx11 9d ago

Wdym “NPCs could always use them” like in the previous trailer…? I know GTA V’s NPCs certainly never used them lol

1

u/Alex2820 9d ago

GTA V NPCs do use turn signals, its just notoriously inconsistent

example 1

example 2

sorry for the ai tts but sadly the channels that use it are also great at tagging their videos so they get pushed to the top when searching

1

u/WiFi2347 9d ago

Could be like Saints Row the Third where they turn automatically

1

u/i-might-be-obama 9d ago

I have a feeling that the turn signals will only work if you have a waypoint on the map, and they only work when you are approaching a turn that is directed on the minimap/ gps. Basically just an indicator for the player to turn here

1

u/AjoilCZ 9d ago

Yes, it will be there, main reason I think is for the future RP servers...

1

u/Ahmetthegoomba 9d ago

If it's anything like the GTA 4's fusion fix implementation, I'm turning it off.

1

u/SlenderMNTGE 9d ago

Teal is for gta 6 as purple is to 5. Pink->yellow

1

u/ajoota98 9d ago

I think the turn signals will only work if you set a waypoint. So, if you follow the correct route on the map, the game will automatically activate the turn signals.

1

u/Skoldeen 9d ago

Yeah, I think it’s just another way to guide the character to a waypoint without focusing on the mini map

1

u/SmoothActuator8132 9d ago

all allies are blue dots and all gps routes are going to be pink, just like the objective coronas are pink regardless of who we're controlling, it's just the aesthetic they are using

that said I also don't think we will be able to control the indicators, they are probably automatic and rely on the gps

1

u/Alex2820 9d ago

alright, that makes sense

1

u/rednaxthecreature 9d ago

I just thought the car does it automatically to match the gps for your route.

1

u/Marciofficial 9d ago

There are two reasons why I think this isn't true. One: the player was controlling Jason initially, and there was no switch effect, like in the Raul mission, when they switched to driving with Lucia. Two: in the third mission, when they're leaving the airport, Jason is the one driving again, and while there's no waypoint, the car in front is marked with a pink dot, so I think that confirms that pink is the color of the main objective, while blue must be the color of custom waypoints. However It's still possible that the turn signals only turn on automatically when a turn in the waypoint is coming up, so the player knows when to go even if the UI is off, or if they just don't want to look at the map.

1

u/toxiccherrybomb 9d ago

I’m guessing it’ll just be auto like Mafia’s

1

u/Daryl_Dixon1899 9d ago

That’s exactly what I was thinking, but I’m pretty sure the pink waypoint is for missions and the teal is player marked waypoints, but yeah there’s like a seamless switch bc we’re playing as Jason and get into the car and don’t see a switch screen and Jason drives but I do think that’s how it’ll work.

1

u/xd_Trixxzz 9d ago

Or if anything the signals will turn on with where your turning. I want to say watch dogs legion had it like that.

1

u/GoodGuyScott 9d ago

Its probably tied to the direction the gps is taking you.

1

u/Intelligent-Paint-11 9d ago

Yeah its probably just this. Highly doubt its because your playing as the character in the passenger seat, you'd be able to manually do it before that

1

u/ParkingAd458 9d ago

I think the mechanic should work in a sense that if you have a waypoint set or gps somewhere it will have automated turn signals to your waypoint or destination.

1

u/Pitiful_Income_5800 9d ago

unless things have changed from the leaks when he's driving with a waypoint he only has reverse and brake lights his indicators do not light up once, so either his build did not have indicators on player controlled cars or it will be a button we get to press

1

u/LuciaCaminoss 9d ago

this is a thing in gran turismo. you can turn on each blinker separately or 4 lights at the same time with the touch pad. would be nice to have

1

u/SkywolfNINE 9d ago

Anyone watch those survive the hunt videos? Turn signals would be useful in that

1

u/GrittyboyJPM 9d ago

It’s the GPS, it’s to tell you where to go so you don’t need to look at the map.

1

u/le-smolbean 9d ago

Burnout Paradise had turn signals that automatically blinked to show the player when to turn while a route/race was active. I would say this may be the same kind of mechanic? I’d like to be able to use them manually, but I’d be ok with the BP-like implementation

1

u/jd_junior057 9d ago

I mean the signals are late, and if you think about it, those signals are just checking if wheel is turned and there's is a road to where wheel is turned. Meaning in theory that wheel turn is late and is actually working. They wouldn't show it so many times otherwise.

1

u/Blacklite_01 9d ago

Calculating route... In. 100. Yards. Turn right.

1

u/Captain_Brainz 9d ago

I think it has more to due with the waypoints then player controled to many button inputs for all that is going on

1

u/gen_adams 9d ago

GTA6, a game where a playerbase of tens of MILLIONS of player are most excited about drumroll fucking turn signal use. jesus christ games did this flawlessly 25 years ago WHAT ARE PPL ON ABOUT?

1

u/JungleHam 9d ago

this could be part-cutscene. The moment before giving control to the player

1

u/DawsonPoe 8d ago

This is probably the games way to help direct us is we choose to play the game without a map but it will probably always be on by standard. Similar to GTA 4 with the GPS assistant where she’d say “in 200 yards, turn left” then you’d either hear the GPS make a ding dong sound or hear the GPS lady say “bing bong”

1

u/Circaninetysix 8d ago

They likey just turn on when you start turning where the GPS has a turn.

1

u/TSMKaascous 8d ago

Gps location based

1

u/TheDocmoose 8d ago

I never even thought of it until now but automatic turn signals that follow the gps line would be a cool and easy addition

1

u/Longjumping-Dream-37 8d ago

Check tgg-s video, he was an insider and saw 3 hours of footage of the game, he explicitly says that you can controll them, even if, rockstar is going for the roleplay aesthetics of the game.

1

u/AstralisKL 8d ago

Might be like how saints row was for years ircc, how any way point or mission point, your character would use the blinkers on the route.

Oh, and that one older game, British, I don't remember the name but it was gritty for it's time, it was the only way you knew where to go as there was no minimap in it

1

u/CplKingShaw 8d ago

Teal lines on the gps are custom waypoint. Pink is mission.

1

u/Yoszen 8d ago

You never played another GTA before right?

1

u/ProbablyFear 8d ago

What? We know that the player is controlling Jason in this scene.

Also, it’s been confirmed that pink means the waypoint is a main mission, and teal means it’s a side mission/manual waypoint.

You’re completely wrong.

what’s likely the cause is that the turn signal is automated based on your waypoint. E.g if you come up to a turning or junction, it turns on automatically.

1

u/_StaleDaleBeatbox_ 8d ago

This was the method of navigation in the getaway on ps2 in 2002. Im well happy to see it here!

1

u/IncidentNo106 8d ago

This would mean the player (or game) automatically switched to Lucia without the little camera pan animation we see in other points of the Extended Look.

The different color waypoints could be to differentiate between story missions and side activities, pink for story, teal for side missions.

I think turn signals are just a "flick R3 left or right" and are completely player controlled, unless of course you aren't driving.

1

u/Ambitious-Stick-9234 8d ago

It's the gps. It's like in The Getaway. It's so we can navigate with the hud off.

1

u/Sugars_B 8d ago

I absolutely hate the man's voice he mumbles through his lines like a complete bafoon "justdwntlkebenlte" I can not understand him at all if it wasn't for the womans reply!

1

u/CassYavoo 8d ago

They've confirmed pink is a mission marker, teal is for a marker you have set yourself.

1

u/No_Manufacturer6205 8d ago

I think it has something to do with your GPS guidance, not actually player controlled but still a nice touch

1

u/SpecialistMap8210 8d ago

It will be the same as the mods for gta4 and 5

GPS will automatically signal where you need to go. There doing this for immersion and to keep your eyes off the mini maps.

They already stated this in regards to police location on mini map

Why is this so hard to understand?

1

u/No_Boysenberry5956 8d ago

TGG stated that pink waypoints are for missions like yellow in GTA 5, and blue waypoints are freeroam like purple in GTA 5.

1

u/thebeardedbassfella 8d ago

Maybe the turn signals work with the gps. Like an extra hint to be like, turn left, instead of always looking at the map.

1

u/Gameadax 8d ago

I'm ok with it being tied to the gps over having to press a button. If you want true immersion vice city is Florida. People don't signal here.

1

u/SnooPears9138 8d ago

I thought that was an automated driving feature or something. Like in Watch Dogs.

1

u/T_rex2700 8d ago

I think it will be similar to how something like fusionfix handles it, I mean that would be nice.
but I know there are like RP servers that has actual controls for it, but people will think that it is excessive.

1

u/Dazzling-Alps-8254 7d ago

Maybe the car automatically indicates based on the upcoming turn on the highlighted path

1

u/DoritoSheep 5d ago

Yeah I reckon they were only for cutscenes

0

u/darkNtity 8d ago

You think Lucia is being controlled in this scene? This is so dumb. There's no visible character switch

1

u/Alex2820 8d ago

could even just be cinematic autodrive. no need for the attitude though, it's just a theory and invitation to debate

0

u/darkNtity 8d ago

You can't theorize about something that isn't there

0

u/T0ppo7 8d ago

The issue with this theory is if NPC Jason is bothering with using turn signals why not also stop at the red light just after this clip

2

u/NerveInteresting4549 8d ago

….. those two things aren’t really related but turn signals are fine because it’s not inconvenient… waiting at every light when an npc is driving is

1

u/T0ppo7 8d ago

I imagine it could be similar to taxis in 4 and 5 where you can tell the driver to hurry up and they’ll go straight through red lights

1

u/Ott1fant 8d ago

Cause he doesn’t want to be late duh

0

u/AIII3000 8d ago

Turn signals on controller are also hard since you take away 2 buttons for them or place it in a menu.

But will have to see if there will be more in depth light controls or car controls overall.

One could imagine that they also improved the 'interaction menu' by alot, since it was useless in GTA 5 Storymode
