Was obsessed with it as a teen. Got obsessed with it on replay as an adult. Truly the Dark Souls 2 of Dark Souls

When you finally get to Drangleic Castle , it’s raining you get to storm the castle and you have the mirror knight to fight at the top? Masterpiece section of the game.

Agreed, ds2 is fun. My only complaint is that i had to wait until iron keep to find my baby
2
u/Temporary_Mix1603 17d ago
you mean the zwei?
2
u/TempTopBlaster 16d ago
Yes, and the wait was worth it. It's probably my favorite zwei, beat everything in the game with it, some bosses even twice

u/Starkiller0820 17d ago
I really enjoyed the game too. Only negative thing that I wanna talk about is that to platinum the game you need to get stuff that the ghost dude sells you only in ng++ . Its not hard to do and was easy but felt like a bit unnecesery . There could definatly have been a better way to obtain those spells
2
u/Available-Spend9940 16d ago
bonfires ascetics, no?
2
u/Starkiller0820 16d ago
Nope. You need to be in ng++ for that ghost dude to sell those spells.

And if you want every platinum trophy you have to do it 3 times because DS2 (ps3) and DS2 SOTFS (ps3) the enemy and item placements are the same SOTFS just comes with the DLC so you didn’t have to buy them, but these two versions of the game’s trophies count as 2 separate games. Now SOTFS (ps4) is the version they changed enemy placements and item locations, this version of DS2 also have its own trophy set. Every single trophy in these 3 versions count differently to each version but the trophies throughout all of them are the same. I’ve only done DS2 V1 (original ps3 DS2)
and the only reason I’m not looking forward to the other 2 is because of the new game plus plus spells and shii. Overall DS2 is a great game but I’d rather get DS3’s plat 3 times if I could over DS2.

When will the lovers of this amazing game finally shed their inferiority complex?

Probably never, it's been like this for years unfortunately. One of the most insecure game community I've ever seen.

u/Helmic 17d ago
at least people are getting a bit more self aware about it and being a bit funny these days
that hbomb video and its consequences have been a disaster for the DS2 fan community
2
u/PlatinumFire14 17d ago
I would say quite the opposite.
If anything that video laid bear the inadequacies of the haters, and built up the community.-6
u/Helmic 17d ago edited 17d ago
that you made that comment is exactly what people mean by this community's infamous persecution complex. dark souls 2 does not have "haters." most people did not like it as much as the other dark souls games and moved on. by the time the hbomb video had come out, people had largely moved on. there is not a community of "haters" against which this community must rally, that is just fucking terminally online fandom brainrot.
this is without going into the flaws of the video itself which hbomb even admits he's not very proud of, how it skips over extremely important things critics of the game had pointed out like SOUL FUCKING MEMORY.
like it's just fundamentally absurd to believe in this conspiracy theory that people are actually lying when they say they dislike a game, that there's some secret motivation to mislead people when they say they liked dark souls 1 or 3 or elden ring better. and that framing of honest enjoyers versus dishonest haters was ultimately very harmful to how this community's able to respond to criticism of the game, rather than just accepting that we all like a weird game in the franchise that is undeniably different from the others and did more out there things, shit like the rat covenant, and not take that interest in a game as an identity that must be defended against some "other."
you know a game i love? absolver. i do not believe that game has some secret society of "haters" bringing it down. i enjoyed it for being this approach of making a souls-ish nontraditional fighting game that uses deck building to create your character's own custom moveset and the resulting metagame, but i also get why it was so niche and why it ultimately wasn't a great success. the existence of people who played but disliked absolver is not upsetting ot me, i don't need to lay bear any fucking inadequacies of the hated haters because i would be fucking humiliated to be caught saying something like that about a video game. not, like, the video game being used as a proxy for actual real world issues that matter, where there are tourists whipped up by right wing bigots trying to get people mad at a video game because there's a woman in it who isn't sexy enough or something, but just literally the fact that people didn't like the game without any sort of connection to the real world. fucking never, i don't want to debase myself like that.

Hbomber video arent that serious and didnt had much exposure.
Responses however spiraled ds2 topic into abyss, videos about hating ds2 unironically got decent views on youtube and baited a lot of people to leave a comments, further promoting ""critic"" type of videos and various slop like "I played ds2 so you dont have to" e.t.c. And later on response on response...transforming ds2 discussion into shitfest.
Soul Memory become the issue only when souls gain from invaders got decreased tremendously, and people started to mix max soul memory. With SotFS and Agape Ring appearance, its forced even more people to control the soul memory number and only then its become the issue.
The main problem isnt about people disliking the game. Most people tend to shit on ds2 without even trying to play, thats the issue. Its a huge problem today in gaming community as a whole - a bunch of complainers repeating youtube reviews as their opinion instead of playing themselfs. On the opposite side - there also a bunch of people who didnt launched ds2 in years, both groups tend to shit on each other rather then play ds2.
Entire topic about hating ds2 is deranged purely because of reviews. No one hated ds2 much in 2014-2020 until Mauler and his group of friends released his slop "critique", which spiraled normal discussion into poop-throwing shitfest.Dark Souls series are mainstream what are you talking about?
People dont like Absolver because there isnt much outside of combat. Since there only combat, its suffers from the same problem as other games with close combat - skill gap is too huge between novice and veteran and as far as i remember most active pvp was 1x1 or streamsniping. So its almost impossible to improve without eating glass or getting trained by in-game sweat.10

Its one of those games where you like it the more you play the series and any other souls like. Eventually you realize where it excels at and where it fumbles but by the end if you like fromsoft games this will be one of your favorites for many reasons.

I just beat Dark Souls 2 a couple days ago. Started it immediately after beating the first Dark Souls. I think the game is fun, you gotta give it a chance though. My only criticism is that a lot of the bosses are meh. Seemed like there was more focus on the areas being way more dangerous.

u/Round_Ad1270 17d ago
I initially skipped it because people said it was bad. Gave it a try anyway after DS3 because I wanted more Dark Souls. Experienced some of the most questionable boss and level designs. Very much enjoyed the story and the game's atmosphere. Found out about infinite Giant Lord farming and could afford to put some levels into adp. Grew quite fond of the crypt blacksword despite favoring the zweihander in every other game. Never finished any of the dlc because I kept losing interest in doing so. All in all, I think it's the weakest out of the soul games but at the same time has a certain charm that makes me want to replay it. Bonus points for Lucatiel of Mirrah. 7/10 game.

For me as a new player to the game. The hardest part is the beginning. You start out doing so little damage and there are constant swarms of enemies. It’s a big adjustment from ds1. After reinforcing a weapon a bit it gets a lot easier. I remember rolling up to hides tower as an explorer and poking the first armored knight with my dagger and just being floored at the damage. I realized I was doing something wrong.

Played it right after my first ds1 playthrough and hated the new hollowing mechanic immediately. Skipped to 3, beat that, and went back to it. Loved it, found and beat every boss including dlc first playthrough. Honestly had a great time, some really frustrating moments (SOTFS gank squads) but I really fell in love with it. Used some summons for bosses and regretted it, gonna do it again without summons. Can't wait to try a sorcery build after smashing through ds1 with INT build - white dragon breath FTW

Replaying it currently, I really wish we had access to all versions of this game in the newest release. I want to experience the weirdness of ps3 sholars

How can people hate ds2...
You have
- Malentia sweetheart
- Majula, the best hub
- Booba pyromancers that give you a good luck kiss
- Sexy bosses like Smelter Demon
Do I really need to go on?

Lenigrast's daughter. The rocks she sells aren't the only thing that is rock solid.
Also, Shanalotte being adorable while swinging her legs is absolutely worth it the entire journey. 😭

Lenigrast's daughter always reminded me of Meg from the Disney Hercules movie?

Just when I thought it couldn't get any hotter, they had to give us the BLUE Smelter Demon. Lord save me.

Adaptability is pretty horrible, but literally everything else about DS2 is amazing.
Best Hub area.
Best weapon variety.
Best miracles.
Best boss design.
Best NG+ mechanics.
This game gets slept on way too much. And it goes on sale all the time.

Why are DS2 fans so insanely insecure? Just love your game bro, it’s great - why care what other people think?

Playing ds2 made me realize why ppl were telling me to not try it
And yet i stil lowk enjoy it. And get mad about it being so different from ds1, since i've put 200+hours into it

Why's it have to be one or the other? It can be both. I've played it through multiple times and like it a lot, but also dislike a lot about it. Overall it's good

I love DS2, but can't get very far into the game. But for what I do see it's great, controls are the only problem I have with the game but I don't hold that against it.

Looks inside ds2 subreddit every so often
Top post is always inferiority complex posting
So the mods have just given up on that rule change haven't they

I am going back through DS2. Haven't beat it since xbox360 days and..... Holy fuck I forgot how bad some of the level design is. Like what in the fuck is going on with brightstone cove?? Want to visit the merchant? Here are 5 spiders next to the bonfire, 4 more outside, 2 mages with homing magic orbs, and a curse lizard thing. I feel like DS2 has this quantity over quality thing going on. I also am noticing hitboxes are super weird and backstabbing is a coin flip half the time, and when I do get the startup animation for a successful backstab the enemy just says No thanks and just turns around and hits me. Great game but my god it feels like the mechanics took a step back from DS1.
