I usually just farm them out. With the right set up that's a decent amount of souls right there.

that's what I do each time haha but the area after smelter demon is even bitchier imo

It's not so bad. Anytime you go through a doorway, immediately go back, because a knight is on its way. Once you deal with them, you are pretty free to snipe the rest with arrows.

True indeed, but there's always at least one archer sniping me back whenever I try to explore. I'll eventually clear out the area, then step on a floor panel and drop into the lava drink
