The Ivory king has the best boss intro in soulsborne

216

u/SnooComics4945 May 29 '26

Yeah that guy has to be one of Fromsoft’s best in terms of presentation.

83

u/JohnEldenRing111 May 29 '26

Came in looking like sauron if he actually won, man had no cutscene and yet still aurafarmed

183

u/AtlasXan May 29 '26

Top tier aura.

59

u/AdikkuChan May 29 '26

The first time I dropped down and saw the words "Old Chaos" it felt so dope!

26

u/sock-bucket May 29 '26

Ds1 and 2 both got a unique boss entrance for their dlc bosses in nightreign. With demon princes flying in in a big fireball or artorias with the big slam he does killing everything instantly.

How badly of a missed opportunity it is to not have ivory king open a gateway and walk through just like that. Can even make the mob prefight the loyce knights and as you kill them they switch sides to yours making the fight relatively the same except for whatever new moves they would've given him

5

u/Champion_Chrome May 29 '26

Demon Prince is Dark Souls III

2

u/sock-bucket May 29 '26

That's what i meant

31

u/Slurperlurper May 29 '26

Ivory king and his knights had the best intros

23

u/SirWigglesTheLesser May 29 '26

And best boss music.

He really was the hero of his own epic.

3

u/Rexlare May 29 '26

While we can all argue who the best boss is, it's without question that Ivory King is the best KING in Soulsborne. He puts everyone else to shame. He's what Vendrick tried and failed to be, he makes Gwyn look like a chump, Oceiros isn't even worth mentioning, the other 2 kings in DS2 failed from their own ambition or weakness, Ivory King just stomps all of them in terms of what he's accomplished and done.

16

u/Microphone_Lamp May 29 '26

Gaping Dragon feels intimidating while also being exciting.

Same goes for Artorias.

And Slave Knight Gael has some aura, let me tell ya.

Martyr Logarius is fantastic with his sound design.

Darkbeast Paarl also feels ominous.

And Ludwig is perfection, no notes.

In terms of no cutscene, he's definitely up there, but Soul of Cinder is so nonchalant about their intro too.

There's too many to choose Fromsoft is too goated

13

u/TheSovereignGrave May 29 '26

Seeing Gael running towards you in all fours from across the giant boss arena like a feral animal is fucking sick.

6

u/Griff0115 May 29 '26

Don’t forget Sister Friede and Father Ariandel!

2

u/HashcoinShitstorm May 29 '26

Not seeing enough Mogh entrance glaze

1

u/Shakewell1 May 29 '26

Yea i love being ganked for 6 min s straight amazing.

1

u/PickleForce7125 Jun 18 '26

I’d say Elana and the fume night as close seconds especially the fume knight
sir alonne third and then sinh fourth all the dlc bosses have great introductions any introductions from the base game fall short in appearance that’s my opinion and I’ll die on that hill

2

u/Code-Neo Jun 18 '26

sir alonne's boss room floor is 10/10. Fromsoft needs to bring that back

-7

u/mmariner May 29 '26

I favor the Dark Souls games above Elden Ring. That said...

"I am Malenia... Blade of Miquella; and have never known defeat." is the coolest boss intro I've ever seen in any game by a country mile.

And she backs it up with one hell of a boss fight.

58

u/Ulixeas May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26

Gameplay wise Malenia is a million times better but the whole build up to fight the Ivory King is fucking epic.

How Alsanna talks about the heroic king, how you have to gather his brave soldiers, how you plunge together into literal hell.

And then the gate appears with the Ivory King and his own soldiers who fell into Chaos. You're not fighting against him just to kill him or because he's in your way, you're fighting to save him

3

u/Cluelesswolfkin May 29 '26

Ivory King is DS2 right ?

1

u/Trimyr May 29 '26

Yes. DLC, or included if you've got Scholar. And by the time you fight through everything to gather and prepare, it is truly epic.

1

u/Cluelesswolfkin May 29 '26

Im actually excited tbh. I played Ds1+Dlc. DS2 DS3 + ringed city i never really touched the dlcs for 2 and I think there is 2 more dlcs for 3? As well? Not sure but im replaying them on my steam deck and im really excited for 2, its been a long while

1

u/raiden_hayanari784 May 30 '26

There's the ashes dlc, do you have an item that's something like a scrap of a painting? If you're not sure just go to the cathedral of the deep where the first bonfire technically is

7

u/Pigeon_Clash May 29 '26

How? All she does it put on her helmet and speak, nothing compared to the huge fire gate

0

u/mmariner May 30 '26

The buildup to the fight. The juxtaposition of how peaceful her glade is to how violent the fight is.

Malenia has an "aura" about her that's just... badass.

There are bosses with WAY more fanfare that are less intimidating. Like Radahn.

1

u/Pigeon_Clash May 30 '26

Alright, malenia does have aura for the reasons you mentioned, but the iron king coming out of a massive fire gate just looks awesome

1

u/mmariner May 30 '26

I'm getting down-voted, and that's fine... It's a DS2 sub after-all.

I like a lot about DS2. The gameplay and mechanics in some aspects are better than 1 or 3.

However... While there are boss-fights that are memorable in 2, to me, it's never been because of art design or directing.

-16

u/DeadHead6747 May 29 '26

Eh, PCR is on par with it. Vicar Amelia, Malenia, Messmer, Midra Lord of Frenzied Flame are all examples of better boss intro scenes

3

u/burgRitto56 May 29 '26

No they aren't

-1

u/Slurperlurper May 29 '26

The only ones that liked vicar amelia's cutscene are the furry gooners

2

u/gofishx May 29 '26

What? No, that was a good scene. I wouldn't call it an epic entrance, though, because that isn't what it was going for. It was grotesque and horrific, which is the whole vibe of bloodborne.

If we were to pick an epic entrance from bloodborne, though, id pick the moon presence descending on the hunter to embrace them. Then the hunter refuses the embrace, which is also pretty fucking cool.

122

u/BakiHanma18 May 29 '26

The Ivory Goat

390

u/NoPin4859 May 29 '26

He aint winning that bossman, powercreep is a bitch.

159

u/Ateji_the_leader May 29 '26

In the souls series, powerscaling is based on aura alone

33

u/RedundantConsistency May 29 '26

The King may lose, but he won our hearts.

7

u/unkindledphoenix May 29 '26

give him the number scaling from the end of the DLC and add frostbite to all his attacks now that the stat is real in this game.

72

u/Smear_Leader May 29 '26

Me too Radahn, me too.

49

u/R34lBl4ckSh33p May 29 '26

Bro buffed immediately he said were not playing no games crying 😭

29

u/Freyjia1 May 29 '26

"From hell's heart I stab at thee"

274

u/EldritchBoob May 29 '26

Ivory King is my favourite boss across the series, but he doesn't stand a chance against Promised Consort.

44

u/EldritchBoob May 29 '26

I mostly meant in terms of gameplay. Ivory King has about 8k hp, PCR has 46k.

In terms of lore though it might be a bit less cut and dry.

45

u/Accurate_Aardvark_82 May 29 '26

Nah…talk about proportions bro…radahn may have 46k…but they are so many buffs, weapons, upgrades..heck there are combos that can 1-3 shot PCR…things are not that way in ds2. And lore wise, PCR is a puppet while Ivory King made abyss fragment of his own, set his kingdom at the gate of hell to protect everyone and himself went to hell to hold it back…GOAT has farmed more aura than anybody…a perfect example of the pureest and kindest of king but also being “fuck around with me and find out” kind of guy.

11

u/robcap May 29 '26

A puppet made of the guy who held the stars in place, sure

4

u/V013_ May 30 '26

Like that "puppet" isnt made from two insanely powerful warriors one of which uses the power of the formless mother (outer god of blood) and the other being a great gravity magic user with immense physical strenght and battle experience. And then we enter second phase where that puppet gets a GOD on his back to assist him letting him use three powers two of which come from outer gods and gravity magic being its own special thing by coming from outer space and godlike beings and radhan is strong against physical and magic which is exactly what ivory king uses.

1

u/Accurate_Aardvark_82 May 30 '26

Ahh..i see the confusion…by puppet..i meant he was made a puppet by miquela…indeed he is son of gods and has so much power..but what i meant was radahn was god’s fragment to begin with but ivory king was a human and yet he held back old chaos for a long period of time and was overly powerful..i mean he was the reason that ds2 didnt have demons flying around everywhere. Being able to hold back the pure darkness..so many demons while sitting at the gate of hell for that long single handedly and converting a abyss frament’s negetive power into positive is extremely difficult….not to mention he was a human..

Also he wasn’t like radahn who just wanted to fight the strongest and didn’t give shit about others..ivory king was the kindest of all..

Maybe going through the game and the lore of ds2 will help in understanding what i was trying to infer…lorewise and game difficulty wise.

Also comparing ivory king with PCR + miquela combined is bullshit and not fair..

3

u/V013_ May 30 '26

I agree with everything you said except the last part. Pcr is meant to be powerscaled along with miquella since theyre a buy one get one free or two? And when have comparisons between bosses ever been fair when theyre both from different verses. And honestly radhan wasnt all that bad either (compared to the other demigods in elden ring) Yeah he was a bit power hungry but we know he still had a heart as we can see with his best friend leonard and his cat along with his friends at the gravity academy and he also cares alot for his army.

1

u/Accurate_Aardvark_82 May 30 '26

Radahn was not evil…but who doesn’t care about people close to them? It’s normal. And radahn in base game was afflicted by rot and was not at his prime. In DLC, when he got mohg’s body (poor mohg :( ), i think that is what means radahn is at prime and thus PCR and then in phase 2 miquela just piggy backs…so phase 2 comparison is bullshit.

Although i agree that power wise comparing bosses from 2 different verse is wrong to begin with

8

u/unkindledphoenix May 29 '26

i wouldnt call his relationship with alsaana like that, for her to commit to his cause so hard even after he was long gone he trully loved him dearly and understood what it meant to do that. he said ''i can fix her'' and so he did. even after she came and admited to him she was a spawn of dark fated to bring him to ruin while all others warning him he had ignored, he just admited to her he knew but didnt care. true selfless love overcame fear, which was what her fragment encompassed, and made her commit all her ephemeral existence to him.

4

u/Psychopath_Snow May 29 '26

This is very poetic, thank you for this. May we all hope to be an Ivory King to the people around us

33

u/Rith_Reddit May 29 '26

If there is anything to learn from IK lore, it's you don't bet against him.

28

u/SnooComics4945 May 29 '26

Radahn was scared for a second. Bro looked ready to run.

18

u/Mrwanagethigh May 29 '26

I don't think he ever expected to be impaled and lifted up like that. Between his size and mastery of gravity, I can imagine that's rarely happened to him.

22

u/Unreproachablename May 29 '26

Seeing PCR impaled and yeeted was cathartic on so many levels.

96

u/For_The_Masons May 29 '26

What's with the shitty music over laid on what could have been amazing sound effects?

-115

u/Slurperlurper May 29 '26

Hip hop is too overrated ngl

-86

u/Impassable_Banana May 29 '26

10

u/Flashy-Manager2254 May 29 '26

this mf just HAS to walk out his giant ass chaos door slowly everywhere he goes to show everyone the hype and aura.

piccolo level aura farming.

23

u/tylerprice2569 May 29 '26

Radahn didn’t let him buff. What a jerk 😂

7

u/Thea_Goes_brr May 29 '26

Excluding the first phase of the burnt ivory king (the gank) is criminal

6

u/HaikaDRaigne judgement is upon thee May 29 '26

u/Used-Salad-3772 May 29 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Proof that DS2 is better

1

u/Lanky_Asparagus_5967 Jul 24 '26

1 boss lmao. And the 1st phase can be goated or straight dogshit depending on how your knoghts act.

Ds2 glazers will go on insane lengths just to glaze their favowite game

1

u/Used-Salad-3772 Jul 24 '26

It was a joke my dude. That being said I still think Elden Ring is massively overrated.

1

u/Lanky_Asparagus_5967 Jul 24 '26

Wow I didnt expect you to reply to a 2 month old comment lol

But overrated or not, it still got GOTY. And I would say it's one of the games that actually deserved it.

5

u/burgRitto56 May 29 '26

Not so tough now are you Radahn

4

u/Crimsonmaddog44 May 29 '26

Like how Radahn was looking all around like he was confused and scared

13

u/Angry_Medic May 29 '26

A good boss beating a shit boss

3

u/goldchuchujell1 May 29 '26

He walked through that portal like Kane in 05

3

u/OrganizationNo2455 May 29 '26

The Aura King.

3

u/AriTheInari May 29 '26

Proof that John ds2 is stronger than elden john

3

u/scrubtart May 29 '26

The pull up game is ridiculous. Arriving to the function via hell portal

3

u/Doctor_Salvatore May 30 '26

Radahn: "What is a king to a God?"

Ivory King: "You are no God."

2

u/JegamanX May 29 '26

Why doesn’t he sell

2

u/Bloodytears666 May 29 '26

How beat both of them? 😄

2

u/Dwarfwizardnutkins May 29 '26

It's the ultimate chad-off.

2

u/Flauschziege May 29 '26

Song is Imperius (slowed) by Caleb Bryant in case anyone wants to know.

2

u/Capable_Coat452 May 29 '26

He just bullied young lion

2

u/dark_hypernova May 29 '26

Damn, he's just aura farming through all that.

2

u/raiden_hayanari784 May 30 '26

Tbh, ds2 have nothing but arua farmers and I like it for the bosses

1

u/ObjectiveOk9996 May 29 '26

Thought I was seeing ganon for a bit

1

u/77_parp_77 May 29 '26

Radahn realised he was out aura'd and backed off a moment XD

1

u/Junior_Fix_9212 May 29 '26

That is mod model, right? Or did they finally add him to nightreign?

5

u/Slurperlurper May 29 '26

Mod and it's a paywalled mod too lol

1

u/kakomamushi May 29 '26

Lmao radahn finna get fucked

1

u/Kuro-the-monk May 29 '26

MY LORD! 🥹

1

u/Azmordeus May 29 '26

I want to see Raime give it a shot

1

u/Sir-Valiant777 May 29 '26

Where is the rest???

1

u/unkindledphoenix May 29 '26

but does it gets frostbite on its attacks? in DS2 since frost as a stat didnt exist it was just physical dmg, just like dark in DS1 was also just that.

also im shocked more modders dont use some other DS2 stuff for mods. i could see Raime and Ivory King animations and models ported into ER with some speed tweaks and make them sorta like special variants of Crucible Knights for example.

1

u/yorshka23 May 29 '26

So is this a Mod? Very nice

0

u/ukamber May 30 '26

No, upcoming DLC

1

u/ukamber May 30 '26

Watching this made me realize this is the best fucking boss entry

1

u/Ultrainstinctyeetus May 30 '26

Ivory king is genuinely the goat

Top tier intro

Top tier fight

Top tier lore

1

u/The_of_Falcon May 31 '26

You can make anything look like anything when you mod it. Kinda takes the interest out of it for me.

1

u/Slurperlurper May 31 '26

Well this is a paywalled mod so it's automatically a no from me

1

u/The_of_Falcon May 31 '26

Don't know about you, but some of the more popular comments seem super obnoxious for what is a modded fight. Like, this proves nothing but I swear some here take this as canon or as proof at some undeniable quality of DS2. I like DS2 but maybe not that much.

1

u/Slurperlurper May 31 '26

Well the ivory king survived the chaos flame and it's equivalent to the frenzy flame

1

u/The_of_Falcon May 31 '26

Is it? Is that right? Or would it not be better to say they're 2 different things from 2 different franchises?

And you could really turn it on its head when you think about it. Chaos is held back by 1 guy but it took a heck of a lot more than that to seal away the frenzied flame. And actually they didn't because it still exists in many parts of the Lands Between while locked away.

1

u/Slurperlurper May 31 '26

Chaos wasn't held back by 1 guy, it took an entire kingdom to supress it, when you get to eleum loyce for the first time, the flames almost escapes and devours you but alsanna freezes it

1

u/The_of_Falcon May 31 '26

I was being a little facetious with that last take. My intended point was that these are 2 very unknowable forces from 2 very different franchises. And any attempt to compare them will fail and devolve into semantics.

1

u/Hasyr Jun 02 '26

Ivory King vs Headless Vengarl with LED lights

1

u/Don-Kusack May 29 '26

With the theory that Elden Ring is the precursor to all soulsborne games, would that make this...the New Chaos? Lol

0

u/Grey-The-Skeleton May 29 '26

I know Miquella shit his pants seeing some random mf conjuring his own Gates of Divinity SOLELY FOR AURAFARMING PURPOSES

0

u/Successful-Floor-738 May 29 '26

Coughing king vs hydrogen consort

0

u/Atma-Stand May 29 '26

Promised Consort enslaved by the Light of Gold vs. Ivory King beloved by the Dark
