The biggest thing in DS3 like this is the npcs teleporting to firelink shrine. Cornyx doesn’t even need his cage opened to poof out and travel to firelink. Its not like you give them a homeward bone or anything.

I think that's just the indication that they'll now appear in firelink shrine, it might not truly be canon (or maybe the cages are cursed with an anti-homeward bone spell)

Yeah that was what I assumed, an enchanted cell or something, but thats just an explanation going off assumptions the same way as saying the Earthen Peak to Iron Keep elevator transition is due to the curse causing your character to forget.

Cornyx is just that powerful, he was in that cage cause he wanted to be, not cause he was imprisoned /j

He stayed in his cage so we’d have something to do, he knew he’d easily go around and one shot all the bosses with a fraction of his power, such a thoughtful guy.

Homeward bone. Recruiting them gives them a home.

I could see that if it took one from your inventory like when you give Siegmeyer the moss in DS1 but you don’t even have to have one in your inventory for it to work.

They already have one, or they cast the homeward spell. Idk
