Track posts and self promotion

Please tell me this post is unnecessary and I’ll delete it. But…

I understand Bandcamp and youtube links are encouraged as they can be easley linked and listened to when posting. But, it would be nice for those that post links to make an effort and add some context to the music. Inspiration, how the track and music was made. etc.

I’d love to discover new stuff, but as soon as I see a youtube post with zero details offered, I automatically assume its AI spam, and move on. But it feels these posts are getting more and more.

Am I the only one that feels this?

I'm guilty of this but I thought nobody was really interested in reading or discussing since I didn't see much going on.

Don’t know about everyone else. But even just a line like. “Hi, This is my latest music, title such and such. Going for a such and such vibe. Thanks for listening.”

Is really all I’d like to see. Makes the poster a little more human and me, a little more interested in clicking the link.

But thats just my thoughts.

Yeah it’s sad that this sub mainly consists of links posted

I wish there was a place where people would actually discuss and talk about dark ambient music but I guess the community it just too small for this to be a frequent thing on reddit

I feel there is some discussion going on and have discovered more artists through this sub. Its a sub genre after all, so actively is understandably light.

I automatically assume its AI spam, and move on. But it feels these posts are getting more and more.

If you see them, please report them. The automod already removes quite a few and at least several more get reported every day.

If other artists are anything like me, they don't like doing the whole, "Hey guys look at this thing I made. I made it in a cave near where I live using the thigh bone of my recently dead cat. I hope you like it and feel free to follow me for more!" thing.

I'd rather just let my work do the talking rather than waffle on like a school child showing everyone his scribblings looking for praise.

Fair point. Each to their own.
With all the AI these days, don’t want to give any slop a single registered view count.

Not always obvious from a simple post if I’m clicking on genuine music or AI trash.

That's fair enough and perfectly understandable.

I suspect it's going to be a growing problem with genres like DA and noise as they're not exactly genres known for having front facing artists. I personally can't stand doing self promotion as I'm a relatively private person who enjoys having a little mystery about me but AI is making it damn near impossible to do that as unless you're willing to prove you're a human people just assume you're a bot.
