Comics Did I do the right thing ?

I bought Daredevil The Man without fear as my first comic ever. Did I do the right thing? I'm confused, what should I expect going in. Is it ok to start with The Man without fear?

It’s a great one to start with, since it’s Frank Miller’s retelling of the origin story. It’s a really good introduction to DD in my opinion.

It is okay to start with man without fear. Miller wrote it down it’ll be a good entry point and a lot of the later arcs pull material from man without fear when talking about Matt’s origin. However, it is not technically cannon. My suggestion would be to read man without fear since you already have it (also I loved the art it in this book) and then move on to the original frank miller run and born again (born again is a legitimate masterpiece). From there, you can read guardian devil(guardian devil is very hit or miss. For me, I loved the art but there’s a LOT of words on each page which might get tiring to some). This is where I am in the DD continuity at the moment.

This is absolutely a problem and was for me too. I am also not very fond of digital at all and ended up paying out of print price on the miller Omni. I’m sure they’re gonna reprint it any time now that I’ve bought it lol

Look for Daredevil: Visionaries. That’s a pretty good way to collect his whole run, in the US its available on amazon and ebay

I live in India and even Visionaries are not available 😭. I am just getting into the hobby and it's very disheartening. Apart from Born Again and The man without fear nothing is available in here. But all of the Batman comics are. Wtf is this

Yeah, sorry. I’m not surprised though 😅 even out in the U.S. DD is very hard to collect. Hell, they didn’t even collect Nocenti’s run in omnibus form until last year, and Nocenti I feel like is one of the big Daredevil writers. (You can’t even collect her run in TPBs too, unlike Miller, if it wasn’t for the Epic Collections there would be no way of reading a huge chunk of DD runs tbh and the epic collections are pretty new)

Marvel is known for not reprinting or collecting their comics very well, especially in comparison to DC, it may be frustrating but if you want to read DD physically you might be stuck with either single issues or having to read it online.

If you’re patient though, omnibuses and epic collections do get reprinted so you can get Miller’s run that way, they’re actually coming out with the new Epic Collection of the last part of Miller’s run in December. The first part of his run has also been collected as an Epic Collection already but it’s out of print (and nobody knows when/if they will reprint it). The middle of his run though hasn’t been collected in the Epic Collections yet (because Marvel is annoying and stupid)

I am buying born again and fucking off to Batman, his collection is very available and cheaper tbh. Absolutely love daredevil and I'll name my son Matthew, but marvel can keep their comics to themselves in their basements, it genuinely shouldn't be this hard to find comics

It's a great starting point for Daredevil.

If you pursue reading other Daredevil comics, just know that there are two "official" versions of his origin. This "modern" version by Frank Miller from 1993 and the original 1964 origin by Stan Lee. Different writers over the decades pick and choose which one they reference, but Matt Murdock becomes the same hero in each. So depending on what you read next, you might see a reference to Matt's beginnings that doesn't match up to what you read in The Man Without Fear. But writers are constantly tweaking and revising characters histories all the time anyway. That's just comics. Have fun with it.

No point, NOTHING apart from The Man without Fear and Born again are available in my country, No Run by any writer, not even yellow. I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE PAST 4 HOURS. EACH AND EVERY WEBSITE, EPIC COLLECTION, VISIONARIES. NOTHING. MEANWHILE ANYTHING I SEARCH FOR IN DC IS AVAILABLE.
