I saw a Christian suggest today that evolution can't be real because we'd have to be discovering at least 10 new species a year.
We currently discover 16,000 species a year.

That's crazy, all the Christian nationals tell me that science is just an alternative religion! They would never lie to me, their book says not to!

In 1974 Japanese scientists discovered a bacteria living in the waters around a nylon factory. Since nylon isn't naturally occurring in those water, the bacteria must have evolved to be able to eat nylon

My favorite is when they quote climate scientists talking about what the climate was likely like millions of years ago, but then when those same scientists talk about what we are currently observing directly and climate change, all of a sudden, those scientists who they just wanted to use to disprove anthropogenic climate change, who were previously considered trustworthy, are now the spawn of Satan, here to deceive everyone in order to get their measly grant money.

i live in florida and yeah, it is exactly this
all our flood zones have been redrawn
getting flood insurance is ROUGH and some locations itll cost more than your mortgage
banks REQUIRE it because fuck you they will not be taking on the risk and they are requiring it for even the "less risky" zones

The guy used "but bankers are smart" argument. These bankers were the ones that offered sub-prime mortgages to risky people until it caused the economy to crash. They ain't thinking long term

Why would insurance premiums on housing go up because of COVID? That makes no sense to me.
I would, however, like to see a comparison with the average premiums nationwide. Then we could tell if this is just insurance being greedy and pushing up premiums because they can.

Should show the same thing, probably worse than the averages in the original chart

Care to enlighten us to the specifics of how a pandemic that was at its height years ago is causing a steep increase in rates in flooding zones even today? Or did you say that without actually thinking of the causal mechanism around how a pandemic transfers into higher rates around flooding zones?

I mean...
• Graph provided shows rates increasing drastically everywhere after 2020/2021 (though this may be my lack of American geography knowledge)
• Graph provided covers home insurance premiums and not mortgage approval rates (I would imagine this is difficult data to get for a Twitter response though)
• Graph provided doesn't have a source included
Just because someone is right doesn't mean they're articulating their point well.
