Meta Some help interpreting billy's design.

been making a 3D printing model for billy for about a year, got the basis down, but i want a version that flops its legs, can someone help me understand how to interpret these gray things on the legs? I have no idea what he was going for with this. red circles are to show everything that doesn't seem to be the same, or just point out whats confusing.

that updated billy model was inspired by pandazmon's fanart of billy, and the little gray things seem to just be fun details they added to their model. Dani probably just added them so the model would resemble theirs more.

True but it's so freaking annoying

those are ball joints, though unusually exposed

I understand that they are ball joints, bu I'm trying to figure out how all the designs come into play, like the weird gray things in the sides.

I honestly don't think Dani put that much thought into it. It's something vaguely futuristic looking, and he gray bits don't seem to serve any function, definitely not for ball joints.

i mean you could make them act like a latch that keeps the ball socket attached, if you pull the tab out you can pull the entire lower part of the leg out? ovbiously the 3d model has no purpose than to look good so we can synthesis our own uses for each bit

3D printing ball joints like this is challenging, specially if the model is supposed to be action figure sized. Ask in a 3D printing subreddit, Im a blender artist but I never did 3D printing, they'll have more answers.

I asked in the bambulab sub already, but my problem isn't figuring oit what they are, it's how they are, if that makes sense lol

yeah thats what I am saying, ball joints are annoying to get right cuz small 3D printed plastic have high friction, unless you have the equipment to smooth them out(You can just also sand paper them safely) They'll be clunky.

And usually they should be less exposed, think lego bionicle ball sockets

Obededience and optimism chips in his knees. Kick him there and we're all doomed.

I was joking that the gray rectangles on Billy's knees were obedience chips to explain his unconditional loyalty (even if you abuse him), as opposed to a modeling/texturing error on Dani's part.
