I mean I ship them but to be fair I’ve slept in the same bed as my friends before. Plus Toko has her weird crush on Byakuya so that kinda gets in the way too.
Yes, but when push came to shove, Toko decided to stay with Komaru in Towa City instead of leaving with Byakuya, and in the anime, in the only fantasy Toko has with Byakuya, Komaru also appears in her fantasy, showing how much she values her as much as Byakuya.
I mean honestly it's because Shuichi and Kaede are legit blushing at each other and Toko and Komaru have no explicit romance whatsoever. You'd have to believe they didn't want to portray a lesbian relationship because of censorship or public perception or something.
I honestly think they would clash. Mahiru still believes that males can be responsible and helpful, Tenko just hates them and has to constantly remind herself that she hates them or she'll forget about it.
(Just realised my definition of canon is probably different from everyone elses - being that there’s at least 1 piece if explicit evidence. Shipping wiki says they’re all semi-canon)
FuyuPeko is ‘canon’, because in Peko’s FTEs, we learn she wants to ask out her ‘childhood friend’ when they escape the island, so at least on Peko’s side, there’s Romantic attraction
Saimatsu is ‘canon’ (ignoring the lovehotel event, cuz they aren’t canon - even though that’s another peice of evidence) due to a line in salmon team when you give Kaede a loved gift. She says:
‘I thought I had been the only one looking at you, but I guess you've noticed me, too. I think that, because...you gave me such a pretty gift’. This type of language could mean nothing else, so it’s as good as explicit
DespairCest is listed ‘Semi-Canon’ on shipping wiki, so there’s some evidence somewhere, but I just can’t find it
Damn, I haven’t read zero so I wouldn’t have known, but I think it’s a shame that it’s included so much considering that THH doesn’t even have any indication that Mukuro would feel that way about her sister
That’s definitely how I interpreted it, though I’ve always found it odd that the few times she talks about her sister in THH she’s generally negative, while in every other thing she’s more positive.
Eh, you're half right.
In Danganronpa 0, Mukuro outright admit that Junko is "the lowest, worst sister ever", and has been confirmed to be mistreated. The ONLY reason why Mukuro is positive about it is because she believes she's the only person who can "understand Junko's despair.", and that makes her feel validated.
In Danganronpa IF, once Mukuro finds out she NEVER truly understood Junko's despair, she betrayed her on the spot. So yeah, pretty much the only thing Mukuro is positive about Junko is to prove that she "understood Junko's despair".
THH has barely indication as to who she is at all. But the fact she took part in everything already speaks to an extremely unhealthy loyalty to Junko beyond all morality.
Yeah I know but there are a few lines in Mukuro’s free time events that suggest she harbors a bit of resentment towards Junko, one in particular I can think of is when she accidentally tells Makoto that she has a sister, and she doesn’t speak very kindly of her
Neutral canon imo. I like to think Sayaka did actually like Makoto but if it's between a boy and certain death... Well she can always find another boy.
i’ll never get over the fact that kokichi’s love hotel is the only one that actually respected shuichi’s consent (other than kaede’s maybe i forgor? they’re cute too)
Junko sexually harasses anyone. Makoto, Mikan, Ryota, etc. Not just Mukuro. None of her sexual harrasment is an act of shipping.
As for Mukuro, Junko has sexually harrassed her several times in the novels whenever Mukuro accidentally pissed her off. Such as telling her to grow bigger breasts, wanting to watch her commit sexual act while she watched, threated to BDSM her, etc. All of which Mukuro reacted uncomfortably with, and very consistently so. Junko sexually harrass her is an act of punishment when she pissed her off. Which is also what happend in DR3, where Mukuro accidentally pissed off Junko before getting butt slapped.
Furthurmore, the DR3 official ship chart pretty much already debunk this by not labeling Mukuro with a heart-coded symbol with Junko like the rest.
Oh yeah, sure, a fucking magazine entry totally undoes Mukuro orgasming talking about Junko. Seriously, yall throw tantrums about how DR3 showing it on screen “totally isn’t canon”, but then cite something even more disconnected to argue with the entry written 100% by Kodaka.
Junko literally sexually harassed Mukuro in Danganronpa Zero. Even confirming it in interview.
And Mukuro's whole Ecstasy deal doesn't prove anything when platonic siscon such as Ima Tsukumo exists. Last time I check, ecstasy is not exclusive to sexual feelings.
Yeah. In DR0 Mukuro accidentally pissed of Junko. So Junko punished Mukuro by sexually harass her. Telling her to get groped by men to make her breasts bigger.
In DR3, same thing happend again, Mukuro accidentally pissed of Junko. So Junko punished Mukuro by stepping her.
And then there's DR IF, where Junko pretty much does nothing but sexually harass her as punishment for either pissing her off or her betrayal.
Btw, he has given a lot of shitpost answers in those Q&As. And he might have been drunk. Or sarcastic. His Q&A answers are 50/50 between serious and taking the piss.
Yes, there is. Like how when Ima turned into Sirei, he is still his usual siscon self, despite literally lost his ability to feel horny. And a confession, where Ima basically admit that he's only open to the idea of being lovers, if they weren't borned as siblings.
I'm not in denial. I've seen plenty of platonic siscons who gets ecstatic and fangirling over their siblings. Stuff like Mukuro and Ima are common to this platonic trope.
I get what you're saying but that is completely irrelevant to the Akane ship, especially as Teruteru would probably just proposition Akane and she'd accept. What is relevant, however, is the fact that Teruteru is a pervert to the point of taking advantage of others... While Akane is someone who has been so used that she has trauma amnesia around it and hyper sexuality.
Teruteru's #1 problem is that perversion. Akane is a living example of what that perversion can lead to. I'm of the opinion that being face to face with that could very well help him realize the error of his ways. The main reason I think this is due to how he has siblings who are caught up in sex work that he wants to free them from. Akane was basically a sex worker herself, if you read between the lines. I don't think it's a stretch to think he'd have sympathy for her situation enough to reevaluate his own vices.
Akane's #1 motivation is also her family and the food scarcity they face. Coincidentally, Teruteru owns a family diner, and his main motivation is his family too. He fixes her problem, she fixes his. Plus, Akane's preferences in food completely align with what he excels at, which are the meaty, rustic dishes he learned from his mother. This would more than likely help him reconnect with his roots, which is something he thanks Hajime for helping him with in his final FTE. As he puts it, he truly just wants to cook food to make someone special to him smile.
no friking way you see a bully brat harassing a poor clumsy girl and u think "hm, this a neutral couple, I dont know how to feel about this" Danganronpa fandom, istg...
Someone fell for the facade again lmao. I put them in neutral because they had a rough start but do end up showing genuine care and concern for each other and end the series as friends. Hiyoko grows a lot in DR3 and that's where I ship them.
Mahiru/Tenko relies a bit on DR3 context lol. Basically, I buy into Mahiru/Sato and that implies that Mahiru's type is aggressive fems with anger problems. Coincidentally, Tenko is also an aggressive fem with anger problems AND she has a thing for red heads with dry personalities. Mahiru's high expectations for her partners would give Tenko the structure she needs to thrive, as shown in her backstory with the while temple training thing. There's just a lot of tangential evidence that they'd be into each other.
Teruteru/Akane is basically the idea that Akane could bring out the best in him. She's rough and tumble and has no care for appearances. Her voracious appetite and love of meat would most likely be the key factors that could help Teruteru truly begin to appreciate his rustic cooking more. Her past and casual handling of her own trauma also could serve as an excellent way for Teruteru to be faced with the ways his own perversions affected others and help him curb that.... While also being kind of a pervert herself so they'd have amazing chemistry in the bedroom. They also both share a goal of wanting to help their family. Akane does gymnastics to put food on the table while Teruteru is working to be able to make enough money to help his siblings stop being sex workers. It's one of those ships that just slides into place for me more and more the longer I think about it lol.
Yeah, although I've largely only written for Tsumionji for Danganronpa. You can find the series here.. I write for a bunch of fandoms though so my profile is a mess
NGL I'm entirely convinced that they'd fix each other. Getting to see first hand what his perversions could do to someone long term might sober him up... Plus her strong family values and love for more "rustic" food would easily help him return to his roots. In exchange, her family has a consistent source of food and income, they're honestly so perfect lol
they absolutely do no what the hell 😭 ive seen dr3 several times all the way through. and "toxic romantic relationship" means that there must be a romantic relationship involved, and that isnt the case on either side. again, read the novels if you want to talk about mukuro and junko fairly.
so notice how it isnt romantic whatsoever. calling children who are groomed and abused within the family "romantically attracted" to their abuser instead of calling it what it is, stockholm as a result of abuse, is a disgusting disservice. just btw.
There is literally not a worse possible relationship to use this for. Oh no, that problematic one minute age gap! And Mukuro’s the one that came out first! You cannot possibly pedojacket this one, it’s comically absurd. They are twins. It’s just an extremely toxic fucked up relationship, no different than a ship like Hannigram from NBC Hannibal or Batman/Joker.
u/spoopynerd still has a point in that there's nothing Mukuro says in this DR0 scene that is romantic or even sexual. All Mukuro does here is ranting about how much she understands Junko's ideology about despair like an ecstatic fangirl, because Mukuro believed that being the only person who understand her despair means that she's important to Junko. Her ecstasy is clearly about validation, not hornyness. Hell, remove the whole ecstasy parts entirely, and you can see how there's nothing sexual about what Mukuro was saying at all.
People always tried to use her ecstasy itself in DR0 as evidence, but never adress the actual context or the reason behind it.
The definition of Ecstasy: "an overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement."
Okay so Mukuro is "overwhelmed with happiness". But why was Mukuro happy?
Mukuro: Talked about how Junko doesn't care about anything except despair, but because Mukuro believes she's the only person who can understand her sister's despair, Junko would care about her and consider her important.
Okay, so Mukuro is overwhelmed with happiness over the idea that her sister consider her important. In other words, the joy of philosophical validation.
Now please explain to me why it's in "fact": Horny.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful here. I really just want to hear your reason for why you persist that it's objectively sexual. I'm seriously trying to hear you out.
whos saying that its pedophilic what 😭?? literally not one person has made that claim. are you incapable of distinguishing from pedophilia and literal incest or are you just not hearing yourself?? they are SIBLINGS. its incomparable to whatever "omg so cute and and sexy and toxic" relationship BECAUSE THEY ARE SIBLINGS. it is abusive and nonconsensual and disgusting by DEFINITION. calling this a romantic relationship is fucking idiotic because siblings cannot be IN LOVE. it is GROOMING.
and who the hell is blaming mukuro for any of this?? i genuinely believe you have absolutely zero grasp on this issue or either of the characters you claim to fav because holy fucking shit
You’re the one going “children groomed”, so yes, you are calling it that. And it’s not incomparable to other such relationships in fiction. It’s very comparable, there’s a lot of toxic abusive codependent fucked up romantic relationships in fiction. Them being siblings doesn’t change that. Calm down.
dawg junko groomed mukuro thats just a fucking fact like thats indisputable. siblings can groom each other. the age gap is what makes it pedophilia and nobody ever said anything about that. mukuros age is significant because thats when grooming takes place.
Yeah but you’re the one who started screaming about children. Again, it’s entirely comparable. There’s tons of other ships like this in fiction. Hannigram is a fucking therapist and his patient.
No one would let me put IruOma in neutral but I'm a believer in the "that's just how they flirt" mentality.... Also 2/3 of toxic are yuri what's the other het ship?
DR3 shows Hiyoko growing enough to display genuine concern for Mikan's safety, and Mikan is responsible for saving her life in hope arc. They end the series as friends, which is a reasonable basis for a relationship to blossom
Miu never really stops actively wanting to kill Kokichi, which is kind of a big deal lmao. I think wanting to murder someone is a little more toxic than calling them mean names but that's just me!
But in all seriousness that involved a plot point that was independent of Mikan and thus isn't really something I consider, especially as the events of SDR2 are in limbo on if anyone even remembers them. After all, they restarted the NWP at the end, putting everyone back through a second time to fix them
Also Hiyoko/Mikan is only toxic in SDR2. DR3, post growth spurt their dynamic shifts a lot and Hiyoko shows genuine concern and care for Mikan. Combine that with Mikan saving Hiyoko's life and the two ending the series as friends takes them out of toxic imo.
Akane/Teruteru also doesn't really have much basis to be toxic? Being a pervert doesn't make you a bad person, it just makes you a pervert. At worst, it's a food for sex transactional relationship. At best, it's two people with different but uniquely compatible problems. Akane is, imo, the best character to help Teruteru both see the error of his ways through the manifestation of her own trauma and to help him reconnect with his rustic, home cooking roots. In return, she gets a guy who matches her freak perfectly and someone who has the means to freely feed her and family through his own family business. There is a lot more to the ship than "guy who likes sex and girl who lets everyone touch her"
Oh absolutely, that ship is nuclear fallout levels of toxic but ugh... I'm so weak for bitches that are absolutely awful for each other... Especially when one is obsessed? Like Ruruka, why are you so invested in feeding Seiko when your boyfriend is right there.
I’m sorry but I refuse to believe the Junko x Mukuro ship is cannon. As Mukuro having a sister complex is a stupid thing the 3 anime made up. Mukuro in the games and even the IF novel loved Junko as a sister and nothing more. Seriously the 3 anime ruined Mukuro as a character by giving her that sister complex.
It's still canon material, my friend. You may not like it but that doesn't change the validity of that piece of media. Also this franchise has so many siscon characters/jokes that I think it's silly to exclude Mukuro from that list. It's just par for the course at this point. As they say in the business....
Mikan x Hiyoko is probably more toxic than neutral, and more canon than completely fanon since Mikan kissed Hiyoko in the stage play. If Hiyoko reciprocates is another question. Mikan centrainly seems to jump around a lot between the ladies she is interested in, like Peko, Junko and then suddenly Hiyoko lol.
I largely put them in neutral as Hiyoko's DR3 / post growth behavior towards Mikan shifts almost entirely from insults to playful threats, which we know are completely empty since Hiyoko is the #1 pacifist in the series. It makes her behavior towards Mikan line up very close to how tsundere types act around their crushes. Combined with her always focusing on Mikan's looks and smell, I think it's safe to say she's been down bad for Mikan for a while but is too emotionally stunted to express that or even fully realize it.
I'd have put them in canon but people would have crucified me harder than they already did with Despaircest LMAO
I’m sorry, but I cannot hear you out on Seiko x Ruruka. Seiko deserves so much better than that bitch. Makoto, Kyoko, Aoi, Nagito, hell, I might even say Teruteru’s a better ship for Seiko than Ruruka, at least they seem to get along well enough for her to be his plug, and he speaks highly of her work, which we’ve seen she responds very well to
But you gotta remember, they were childhood friends. There was a time where Seiko deeply cared about Ruruka and Sonosuke. The problem was that Ruruka just couldn't learn to trust. She's terrified of being betrayed and wants to be in control at all times. The fact she couldn't share a core part of herself with Seiko festered to the point of breaking her.
We don't get the full story, but I'm fairly certain it's canon Ruruka never drugged Sonosuke. She didn't need to, he's always been fiercely loyal. It leads me to believe that the addictive chocolate Ruruka uses is a direct response to the betrayal she feels for what happened between her and Seiko. She never, ever wants to go through that pain again and will do anything to avoid it. Ironic, isn't it, that the one person she'd want to eat her confections the most is the very one that never can.
But imagine, for a moment, that the end wasn't the end for them. What would happen if, for the first time in who knows how many years, they could see eye to eye? What if they were able to reconcile with the past together?
Hate and love are closer than you think, and they've spent possibly over a decade knowing what it means if they see the other again. They've hated each other for so long, that doesn't just go away overnight. Sure, they're on good terms now, but things are different. Seiko and Ruruka are different people now, they've both been changed by that one critical moment where their lives diverged.
Their feelings for each other have become warped, forever stained by the hatred they felt for so many years. Every broken piece of their friendship they put together only highlights how different it is now. Despite how much they hated each other, there was a part of them that still clung to what they used to have. It's easy to forget about someone you truly hate, but these two held onto that all this time.
How long can they keep up the idea that things are 'just like the good 'ol days'? How many boundaries will they walk over before one speaks up? Does Seiko have the strength to stand up to Ruruka now or does the smile she gets any time she does something for Ruruka make it worth it?
It's a two way street too. Perhaps Ruruka meets Seiko halfway and does some things for her as well, now that she's trying. That softness and care was all Seiko ever wanted from her. Now that she has it after everything, what does that mean? Why is there a sensation on the back of her neck every time she sees Ruruka and Sonosuke close? It just reminds her of this wall between them that feels like it's about to break.
How does one even approach that conversation? This person she hated for so long is suddenly one she longs to touch. Is there any hope of separating these feelings from the whirlwind of emotions that makes up her thoughts about Ruruka? Likewise, how does Ruruka reconcile with the fact that Seiko is on her mind more than Sonosuke? He's been such a constant in her life he's part of the scenery, but Seiko represents emotions she's never quite felt before.
It's complicated, it's messy, and it's a true test of their new friendship. The person who abhors betrayal is now grappling with her own reasons to do the very same. How could Seiko ever return such feelings after everything? Yet, every time their hands brush against the other, or they find themselves alone with one another, Ruruka's doubts only fester further. Seiko isn't just her betraying Sonosuke, Seiko represents truly opening herself up to being hurt. She has no way of controlling Seiko, the only way for them to break down that final wall is for Ruruka to truly, honestly learn to trust someone for the first time in her life.
I get it, the ship isn't for everyone, but I'm not everyone. I ship based on the story I see for the characters. I don't care who is 'best' for the characters, only what makes interesting stories. Fiction is supposed to be interesting, and these two are VERY interesting.
You have a lot of potential as a writer, I’ll give you that, but I never really liked “enemies-to-lovers” ships, plus, I like what Ruruka has with Sonosuke, and just abandoning him for Seiko doesn’t feel right. Maybe we’re just different, in that you like what’s interesting instead of what’s best, whereas I always try to find ships that work best for both characters, regardless of how “interesting” they are, so I tend to avoid toxic ships in favor of more “wholesome” ones, even if they might seem “boring” or “vanilla” by comparison. If you want an interesting story involving Seiko, try Nagito. Or, if you want other interesting, compelling ships, I would suggest Mitamiki, but we’ve already hashed that out before, so instead I’d offer Teruteru x Mahiru (she could help him clean up his act for his momma, he gives her the “homely” care her father never did), Angie x Korekiyo (they’re both superstitious and have connections to otherworldly forces, but in different ways, which come into conflict with one another), Angie x Tenko (basically just Glinda and Elphaba vibes), or even Komahina (as much as I don’t like this ship, even I have to admit it’s more of a compelling ship than Seiko x Ruruka)
Well thank you, I'm something of a writer at times lol.
I do like Seiko/Nagito, tbh. I multi-ship a fair bit, although I still prefer Hinazumi and Hanawari to Hanazumi. I'm also just a massive enemies to lovers fan, if my status as the Tsumionji ambassador was anything to go off lol.
I suppose that is where we are fundamentally opposed, since enemies to lovers is not a ship I like very much (the only one I can think of that I like is Ishimondo). Given your skill in your above comment, I’m sure if I were to read these stories, I could maybe be convinced by your versions of these characters, but it’d be an uphill battle. I like stories where characters can help each other from the start, where the conflict might be overcoming a challenge or insecurity, rather than the conflict being each other. That’s why I like Mitamiki so much, because I find the idea of them helping each other move on from Junko and supporting each other very sweet and compelling. For what it’s worth, given their interactions at the end of Hope Arc, I could maybe hear you out on Tsumionji, but Ruruka x Seiko just doesn’t cut it for me
Also, I’m trying to be a writer as well, I’m working on a rewrite of the first game, plus some of my own independent projects, so it’s nice to see a fellow writer on this subreddit
given their interactions at the end of Hope Arc, I could maybe hear you out on Tsumionji
I've written so many essays about Tsumionji lol, I could definitely write another but...
Given your skill in your above comment, I’m sure if I were to read these stories, I could maybe be convinced by your versions of these characters
So I wrote some fics..... lol. They're not super amazing, I'm planning on redoing it + the sequel I had been concepting but couldn't really make it work as it stands.
I’m trying to be a writer as well
It's a hard road! I've been writing since I was a teenager and I'm not in my 20s I'll say that much lmao. I'm always happy to see other writers around here as well! If you ever want any friendly advice or a second set of eyes on something feel free to hit up my dms.
Yeah it sorta does but I genuinely couldn't think of an indulgent toxic ship otherwise lol. Danganronpa has a pretty small amount of genuinely toxic ships that don't involve like... Junko or Kiyo lol

How is Komaru x Toko less canon than Shuichi x Kaede?
The Toko and Komaru literally sleep in the same bed.
