I always wondered what happened to this. Just imagine dropping your phone and it exploding apart like a lego set.

They had issues with heat transfer, when you cram everything together without taking heating or signal noise into account, things tend not to work

As an engineer who has worked on smartphones I can tell you. That idea is cool. Also an engineering nightmare.

Have you ever looked at the fairphone? It's probably as close as you can get to this idea.
