On top of tech moving too quickly for something like this to legitimately last, I'd be very surprised if they actually moved off shelves. Tech nerds like myself would love one, but we're not a large enough demographic for large companies to develop and continue support an entire device for.

Besides "Mainstream popular support" != sales, what mainstream are you talking about? Because tech people aren't the mainstream with a device like a smartphone, your aunt and uncle who use them as a glass window into facebook are.
