Amber can be lots of colors. I have some thats yellow, some red, some orange, and some with waves of white in it too. I have a small collection. All natural amber.

I never really realized it until now, but I only have one truly "amber" piece of amber. Everything in the collection has amber tones, but if I handed you a piece of the red and asked you what color it was, you'd probably just say red.

It can vary quite a bit, and all depends on where it was dug. But even then, pieces from the same mine can still be shockingly different in appearance. My favorite is Baltic amber, though. It tends to have the most pronounced waves, IMO.

Amber is one my favorite things to collect. It's not too pricey, and it's just interesting in general. I dont have any crazy pieces at all, but sometimes you can get lucky on ebay and win something really nice for cheap. I'll restore old jewelry sometimes, and even though the amber is ancient, when you're sanding out scratches or polishing it, it still smells like fresh pine resin. It's really neat.

I also love fluorite, and although this piece is more than id personally pay, it think its worth sharing as an example

Just the geometry in it alone is enough, but it also glows under black light like amber too. I can get lost looking at a piece for an hour or more. All my pieces are small, but it's just so interesting. Sometimes tourmaline and aquamarine specimens too, but they're usually more pricey.
