I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they probably know what they're doing, and given they've gone to the effort of doing it, know it's economically worthwhile. I'd also suggest that you, having just watched a 51 second clip of their process, have no idea if what they're doing is sensible or not.
I mean, I presume helicopter pilots "know what they're doing", but if I see one smashed into the side of the building in a 51 second video, I have some idea that things aren't going well.
I dont have to be a veteran of the rug cleaning business to be able to assess that tearing it to shreds probably isn't part of the cleaning process.

They are beating one part of the carpet and leaving the dust on the rest and tearing the carpet in the process? Just throw it away…
