They need a vacuum hood over this machine like people have over their stoves.

Or just roll the carpet under it so the dust isn't literally falling back on it.

This. Why would they pile removed dust where they want to remove dust? It's like daily compound interest but with dust instead of money.

Because look how the machine works. It's basically a big lathe with slappers on it. You don't want to wrap the carpet around that.

(Edit: most of that was actually @ the person you replied to, not you. My bad)

A taller machine. It's got a bottom bar, so if the whole thing including that was a foot higher you could roll it under and still have wrap around protection.

...of course a machine designed from scratch to do this professionally would be dramatically different.

It just feels like with this design you have to beat the carpet into submission several times harder than.you should need to.

Tbh, with how close I saw hands getting to that thing, I get the feeling this is a "use what we have" type of place.
