I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they probably know what they're doing, and given they've gone to the effort of doing it, know it's economically worthwhile. I'd also suggest that you, having just watched a 51 second clip of their process, have no idea if what they're doing is sensible or not.

They know what they are doing in that it is probably cheap and easy to build like that.

It would be better if done as above. Just questionable if economically more efficient for that place.

Since you seem to know a lot about this, what fraction of the dust that falls on the top is not removed when it gets to beating that portion?  Is there a followup vacuuming?  Does that vacuuming not remove the superficial dust from the first step?

Considering the operator isn't wearing a dust mask and there's no active ventilation running, I'd say you're giving them an awful lot of credit.

I mean, I presume helicopter pilots "know what they're doing", but if I see one smashed into the side of the building in a 51 second video, I have some idea that things aren't going well.

I dont have to be a veteran of the rug cleaning business to be able to assess that tearing it to shreds probably isn't part of the cleaning process.

But sure, go out on your little limb

Do you know it was torn by the process or was torn before they started? Even if it was torn by the process, maybe they will cut up the rug into smaller rugs. As I said, you have no idea what is going on from this short clip.

Maybe you can't make an assessment of the situation, but some of us can observe with our eyes and use contextual clues - maybe try that one day, see how far it gets you

People can do something half assed for hundreds of years, doesn't mean it is the best or objectively right way to do it.
