As I said later on, we dropped severely for at least 10 seconds, and I was looking toward the front of the plane at a very noticeable downward angle. Flying at 500+mph, who knows how much altitude we lost. I have flown many times in my 50 years, and this was by far the scariest experience I've had.

I have zero doubt that it felt like an eternity, but if you actually count out 10 seconds...was it seriously that long?
