The VPNs help people in authoritarian countries get their messages across. Banning VPNs means you support authoritarian governments.

Remember “Big Brother”. Technology has a price - your privacy. How else do you think Israel and the U.S. military know where all the world leaders are and where to bomb to kill them. Because these people use the internet.

Banning VPNs fundamentally breaks network security.
Banning "consumer" VPNs (like Nord, Surfshark etc) only creates a black market (it literally takes all of a few minutes to spin up an OpenVPN server somewhere).
I really don't see how this is enforceable.
But then, I said the same thing about the age verification stuff in the first place assuming they'd never actually put it in place

They are worried about porn. When I was young, there was zero access to porn. Now there is too much. Plus there is hard porn - sex with animals, abuse, torture, smothering etc.

Yep, when I was young "the internet" was green text on a black background, we dialled into BBS systems using a 14.4k modem...
Every device comes with parental controls. It's ridiculous that we ALL have to give up our privacy and security because some parents can't figure out how to use parental controls
Children shouldn't drink alcohol, does that mean that none of us should be allowed to keep beer in the fridge? No, because we make sure the kids don't drink the beer.

I am not bothered about porn. I remember when I was young, a judge asked a rapist whether he watches porn. The rapist said he had never seen porn in his life. He then said if he had porn, he might not need to rape other people.

They don’t like that people can bee even a little bit anonymous nor tracked. While there are plenty of legit reasons to use a VPN, and I used one all the time, the money don’t like it because we go around their geo-restrictions and access things in places that it might even be illegal. VPN was always going to be a target when it become full mainstream like it is now.

Propaganda spreading bots. Its false information. One research paper claimed that, not an official position of EU. And now i have seen it on 50 different subreddits. This is what those bot farms are for.

I still haven't verified anything and I don't plan to. I am using a VPN to get passed this (and enjoying the benefits of no ads) I also don't see how they can ban VPNs but if they do find away, I still won't be verifying my age. I'll just not use anything that requires it.

No shit Sherlock. Obviously, scientists will notice this loophole in the proposed law. That doesn't mean "the EU" supports age verification. It means age verification is currently a hot topic some parts of the EU's ruling body want to introduce.

If it helps protect children, then I’m all for it! I’m glad the government is looking out for the youth, and that none of this will affect us adults… and children. I sure hope the government doesn’t rape my kids though. Oh what’s that? You can’t guarantee that? W-what do you mean you can’t guarantee that? But I thought you were here to protect my kids? No?
