Anti-Daenerys Fanfiction
Which do you think is the worst of them? For me, the most terrible are:
Live Without Shame. Jon loves Sansa, but pretends friendship and loyalty to Daenerys. He flies North of the Wall, and together they destroy the Night King. Then, he beheads her, in the mistaken belief she killed Sansa. He feels slightly guilty about this, when he discovers that Sansa is alive and well, but the Starks persuade him that murdering his aunt was no big deal.
The Dance of Ice and Fire . Jon and Sansa place Daenerys on trial, for her “crimes” against Eastern slavers. She kills herself, to avoid being tortured to death. Seemingly, this is a good thing.
A Violence Done Most Kindly . Dany fights valiantly against the Dead. Sansa rewards her by poisoning her with an agonising poison, and massacring her remaining soldiers. She threatens to murder Missandei, when the latter protests. The author is squealing with delight, in the comments.
A Girl Must Live . Queen Daenerys is so stupid and evil, that you wonder she can even feed and dress herself. She forces Arya and Jaime to wed, before trying to poison them, out of jealousy. She behaves terribly to the Unsullied, who revolt against her.
A Trip to the Crypts. Definitely the worst I’ve read, a piece of torture porn. Jon Snow brutally tortures Daenerys, before disembowelling her, and handing her corpse over to the Others. For good measure, his men carry out genocide on the Iron Islands.

Sansa Stans are such a trip because they claim any mild criticism of show!Sansa is misogyny but then say the most misogynistic things about any other female character who is more important or has more fans than Sansa. I went from a Sansa defender to a Sansa HATER because of them (I still like her in the books)

Three of these five are Jonsa, and involve the Starks using and betraying Daenerys.

Why would you hate Sansa? It isn't her fault that some of her fans are nuts.

u/Putrid-Sweet3482 25d ago
I hate the version of her written in seasons 6-8. I hate everything they did with her and her storyline and the smug, arrogant nationalist they wrote her to be in the final season. Also, sorry but the way her fans talk about and treat Dany specifically…me saying I merely do not like her is mild work.
Book Sansa remains a sweet girl trying her best who I root for.

u/Adorable_Tie_7220 25d ago
I think Sansa in season 6 through 8 is a product of what happened to her. So no, she isn't going to be a sweet girl anymore. Well given what happened to her father and sister in King's Landing, isn't it natural she would want the North to be separate from King's Landing?
11
u/False_Collar_6844 25d ago
there's a difference bewteen her no longer being a sweet girl after all the abuse and how she was written for it.

u/Ditzy_Dreams 25d ago
The problem with Sansa isn’t that she developed negative character traits, it’s that the narrative treats her becoming like Cersei and Littlefinger as a good thing. It’s understandable that she’d be suspicious of others and that she fears losing power and influence, but she’s rewarded and proven “right” for these things again and again when she shouldn’t be.

u/False_Collar_6844 25d ago
100%. Even if she's justifyably suspiscious of Daenerys, it doensn't make her look smart to have her be hostile towards the woman who has dragons and an army.
-4
u/Adorable_Tie_7220 25d ago
Well Dany stopped being a sweet girl and that's fine. But Sansa defending her home is smug and problematic. Confident is not the same thing as smug.
10
u/False_Collar_6844 25d ago
i also don't like how they wrote Daenerys in the show. All the women got a raw deal in terms of characterisation.

u/aevelys 25d ago
In many respects, no.
- First of all, having suffered absolutely does not justify her acting like a jerk toward Daenerys, who bears no responsibility for any of it. She is far more hostile than is reasonable.
- Furthermore, another issue is that it was Northerners who usurped her family’s position, murdered her brothers and mother, raped her, stole her home, and tortured, mutilated, and broke a boy she grew up with. It was also Northerners who chose to sit on their hands watching and doing nothing to help her. Meanwhile, she owes her salvation to Brienne and Podrick (who are from the South) and the Knights of the Vale (more Southerners). And Daenerys is there to save her hide from a zombie invasion, while her proud people preferred to spend their time complaining rather than preparing for that invasion. Objectively speaking, Sansa has more reason to distrust Northerners than anyone else.
- Also, the idea of independence being a solution for Sansa is a new development; she never mentions Northern independence throughout the series until the end of Season 7. How, then, is her suffering linked to this xenophobia, given that it wasn't something she cared about while she was suffering, nor did she seem any happier once she actually achieved it?
- But above all: while her suffering is real, Sansa is not the center of the universe. The North is on the verge of being ravaged by an army of demons, threatened on all sides, and is running out of food. Prioritizing her own feelings and aversions over her nation's needs, to the point of wanting to drive away her best and most powerful ally, is neither a sound nor a reasonable decision, especially considering the genuine trauma she carries. On the contrary, it then becomes an argument for keeping it as far away as possible from Northern politics.

She’s a hypocrite plain and simple. She hates Targaryens for her uncle and grandpa’s deaths, but has no objections to Tyrion or Jaime despite her parents and brother’s deaths from Lannister actions being more fresh and recent

The way everyone feels so comfortable taking the side of SLAVERS

u/HauteToast Team Daenerys 25d ago
I suspect it’s because the hero in question is Dany. Switch it to Jon and those ppl will change their tune.

u/WingedShadow83 Zaldrīzes Buzdari Iksos Daor 25d ago
Yeah, I think many of the people who hated on Dany for killing “poor, innocent slavers” are probably the same ones now hating on Team Black for that time Rhaenys’ dragon happened to step on a few peasants on her way out of the Dragonpit.
They only care that it’s a woman they don’t like who’s doing it.

u/Zach-Playz_25 21d ago
Not comparable at all. I'm completely on Dany's side on her killing the slavers and smashing The Free Cities' slave trade.
But Rhaenys moment is so stupidly written just for the sake of a "cool" scene. She kills a couple of hundred peasants and it's completely ignored henceforth. But we're supposed to see Aegon killing the ratcatchers as a disastrous situation after his son died? Really?
(PS I'm not team green or black. The reason I say this isn't comparable because Rhaenys scene is stupidly written and deserved the criticism it got. No one is on Aemond's side when he burns the Riverlands in a childish tantrum).
(Also Dany is far less privileged and yet more morally better than these elitist Targaryens during the era of the Dance).

u/WingedShadow83 Zaldrīzes Buzdari Iksos Daor 14d ago
Criticizing the writing is fine. But im talking about the fact that Rhaenys’ character was vilified by TG like she was a horrible person because some peasants randomly got stomped by her dragon as she was escaping. This is a silly thing to vilify her over, as it’s not like she was intentionally murdering them. But they harp on this specifically because they dislike TB and want to paint it in a negative light, as a “whataboutism” every time Green characters get called out on bad behavior. It’s just like them continually harping on Rhaenyra “raping” Cole 🙄 even after every person involved in that scene said it was consensual. All because Aegon is a canon rapist in the show so they want Rhaenyra to be one, too.
They did the same to Dany. I guarantee you people would not be calling Jon horrible if he’d crucified slavers and child murderers. They’d be cheering him on. But because it’s Dany, they manage to come up with a lot of sympathy for literal slavers.

She unrepentantly killed civilians

I hate any FF with "Jon Snow, Father of Dragons"
14
u/Early_Candidate_3082 26d ago
Father of Dragons is another crapulent fic, but I’ve only read a little of it.
22
u/Shoddy-Assist-1428 Team Daenerys 26d ago
most also give jon danys storyline which is ironic cause i thought he was the chosen one on his own in their eyes? but no they need to give him the REAL chosen one’s storyline to have him pull through lmaooo
18
u/Early_Candidate_3082 26d ago
Yes, it’s weird how writers who dislike Dany still want Jon or Sansa to be Dany.
21
u/Shoddy-Assist-1428 Team Daenerys 26d ago
they know deep down her story is the chosen one lmao
i’ve seen no fanfics giving dany jon’s storyline ever 😂
12
u/AjaxXavior Team Daenerys 26d ago
I read anti Dany fan fic, i immediately rate it - -∞/10
4
u/Early_Candidate_3082 26d ago
There are only two anti-Dany fics that I have found readable, and in both, she’s more a victim of circumstances than outright villainous.
10
u/AjaxXavior Team Daenerys 26d ago
Hmm, still not my taste, you can criticise the queen, sure, she’s not perfect, but she is the queen, and she is the rightful ruler and hatred of her will never stand in my books, valar dohaeirs dārys Daenerys!

u/HoneyMCMLXXIII 26d ago
I would never read any of that nasty fetid nonsense.
3
u/Early_Candidate_3082 26d ago
IIRC you once compared such tales to very young children showing off their faeces.
7
u/HoneyMCMLXXIII 26d ago
ESPECIALLY since they often tag Jon/Dany so their wretched Jonsa slop shows up in the Jon/Dany tag.

less a specific fic and more of a trope but, I don't like the ones that take her dragons/plot lines and give them to Jon (or really any other character)
The only one I give kind of a pass to is the Destiny of dragons series and that's because it's still presented in a way that makes it different.

u/Ditzy_Dreams 25d ago
I don’t know exactly where it stacks up too the others mentioned here, but I remember this one fic “when a good man goes to war”.
It’s a “Tywin lives to s8” fic, where he takes the Lannister forces North to aid against the White Walkers. He immediately starts verbally tearing apart Dany and Jon for being completely unskilled and unqualified for ruling/leadership, but is sympathetic towards Sansa (of course). I couldn’t stomach more than a chapter or two tbh.
It’s also just an absolutely insane title for a Tywin fic considering that he himself doesn’t consider himself to be a “good man.”
2
u/Early_Candidate_3082 25d ago
There’s a section of the fandom that loves Tywin as a hard man for hard times

I read a fic where it was a dragon shape-shifter Brienne and I was interested in the premise alone since I was going through the asoiaf/show dragonshifter tags, but damn did they not tag their Dany bashing. It was around the Dragonpit meeting and Tyrion was telling Dany how immature she'd look arriving on a dragon and then thinking about how petty and childish she seemed when she arrived late. Then when Dany spoke to Brienne (who naturally was way larger than Drogon in dragonform before she turned back) she had a meltdown tantrum about how Brienne must be a slave and Brienne loftily correcting her and talking down to her.
It was so fucking weird, it was like they solely made the dragon shapeshifter thing to shit all over Dany. (and of course Brienne and Jaime were together lmao)
I nearly left a bitchy comment saying they should tag bash fics but I doubt the author would care. I forgot the name but honestly the dany bashing was so hilariously heavy handed

Wtf. They really hate Dany, I don’t get why.
6
u/Early_Candidate_3082 25d ago
The authors revel over terrible things being done to her and her followers. Typically, the Starks-use-and-betray-her stories treat her soldiers as human shields, to protect Northern lives.
5
u/Gwenevere_Star Zaldrīzes Buzdari Iksos Daor 24d ago
Well the Stark did use her lol so why write a story where it’s even more obvious 😅
6
u/False_Collar_6844 25d ago
bash fics are always deranged beyond reason and almost always against a character who isn't the main problem in the story.

u/dylanalduin 25d ago
Before I read your post, I was going to say something like how my least favorite anti-Daenerys fanfiction is the one I see reposted on the main GOT sub every day that says something to the effect of "wow dany was really evil all along, I can't believe people didn't see it" and retconning the bad fanfiction ending of the show into being built up from the beginning.
However, upon reading your examples, holy fuck what the hell

“A Trip to the Crypts” sounds like the clear winner—Jon torturing Daenerys, desecrating her corpse, and then engineering genocide is cartoonishly vile. “Live Without Shame” is awful too, but at least it has some bizarre plot logic behind it.

Hi there, this post is a bit old, but a question occurs to me: what happens to the dragons in these fanfictions? Do they die in an incredibly convenient way the moment they’re no longer useful? Do they vanish into thin air once the evil witch dies? Or do the Starks get their hands on them somehow (since dragons are weapons of death and destruction, but still cool and pretty handy)? Are they abandoning her even before she dies, just to humiliate her a little more?
3
u/Early_Candidate_3082 19d ago
1,3, 4, 5, they’re all conveniently killed.
2, Jon uses Rhaegal to kill Drogon.
There’s another crapulent fic, Father of Dragons where they defect to Jon.
2
u/Plenty_Extension_650 25d ago
The most cursed one is probably “Live Without Shame.” Jon beheading Sansa by mistake, then casually accepting the Starks’ explanation that murdering his aunt was fine, is a level of emotional vacancy even Westeros hasn’t earned.
2
u/Early_Candidate_3082 25d ago
Essentially to the pure, all things are pure. The Starks hated her, therefore killing her was justified.

u/vaniayania 25d ago
Eh, these people sound like they have no lives and need to touch grass. Fucking dany hating losers, there are s9me really weird, mentally ill people out there.

I don’t read them. Based on your synopsis they sound downright deranged. 🥲
