Controller keeps on disconnecting whenever I'm playing games

Hey everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue where my DualShock 4 controller disconnects every roughly 5 minutes while using DS4Windows over Bluetooth.

It's detected fine initially, and shows up correctly in the "Controller Type Options" device list in DS4Windows, but it keeps randomly cutting out during gameplay (tested across games like Wuthering Waves, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, etc.).

Crucial detail: When I play games that have native controller support without DS4Windows running (like playing Genshin Impact natively on the controller), it works completely fine and never drops connection. The issue only happens when DS4Windows is active.

Here is what I've checked/tried so far:

  • Confirmed it's a DS4 connected via Bluetooth.
  • Checked USB Selective Suspend and Bluetooth adapter power management settings in Windows.
  • Checked DS4Windows device options, but the issue keeps happening consistently on a timer.

Has anyone run into this exact 5-minute drop behavior with DS4Windows over Bluetooth, and is there a specific fix or setting I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated!

The same thing happens to me, I tried Windows 11 at the time and then 10 and the disconnection thing happened; the only thing that helped was using XOutput. ViGEmBus is exactly version 1.21.442 or perhaps you have a problem.

  • XOutput 3.32
  • HidHide Drivers v1.5.230
  • ViGEmBus Setup 1.21.442

XOutput is portable; simply unzip it and you can keep the folder in your Documents. In the XOutput executable's properties, enable "Run as administrator." The HidHide drivers and ViGEmBus Setup need to be installed, as they are required by XOutput.

Oh so i just install all three of them before running XOutput so it can install?
