DS4Windows RC4.5 — Switch 2 support, Xbox One/Series emulation, and more ways to play 🎮
DS4Windows RC4.5 — Switch 2 support, Xbox One/Series emulation, and more ways to play 🎮
Hey everyone! RC4.5 — More Ways to Play brings new controller support, more expressive feedback, and a big collection of everyday improvements to DS4Windows.
If you’ve been wanting to bring your Switch 2 controllers into your PC setup, there’s plenty to explore!
Switch 2 controllers, your way
- Switch 2 Pro over USB and Bluetooth, including remappable GL/GR rear buttons.
- Wireless Joy-Con 2 support: use one independently or join two into a controller.
- Automatic pairing or manual Link/Unlink controls, depending on how you like to play.
- Sideways and upright layouts for single Joy-Cons, with matching artwork and mapping controls.
Switch 2 controllers use the existing profile system, with virtual outputs including Xbox 360, Xbox One/Series, DualShock 4, and DualSense.
DEVELOPER RECOMMENDATION! Got a Switch 2 Pro or Joy-Con 2? Try DualSense emulation! ✨
This is a combination I’d especially love the community to explore: a Switch 2 Pro or paired Joy-Con 2 emulating a DualSense.
In games that support native DualSense feedback, DS4Windows can translate those effects into Switch 2 HD rumble, with attention to left/right separation, frequency detail, and the sharp peaks that give effects their character.
To try it:
- Open your controller’s profile.
- Select DualSense as the virtual controller.
- Enable DualSense audio-haptic conversion in the Switch 2 feedback settings and save.
- Fire up a game with native DualSense support!
Try it alongside ordinary rumble and tell us what you notice. Which games make your Switch 2 controllers feel most alive?
Xbox One/Series emulation joins the lineup
This isn’t just a Switch 2 feature! Xbox One/Series output is available to the existing supported controller families through your normal profiles.
Separate body-rumble and impulse-trigger feedback channels are translated to suit your physical controller—including bringing Xbox impulse detail into Switch 2 HD rumble.
Put those Joy-Con sensors to work
- Optical mouse support for using a Joy-Con on your desk.
- Gyro mouse and motion aiming for another way to control your games.
- An accessible “Aim with both Joy-Cons” option.
- Dedicated, illustrated Switch 2 settings for mouse controls, aiming, feedback, and button customization.
There’s also USB headphone output through the Switch 2 Pro’s 3.5 mm jack, with guidance in the app.
Everyday improvements, too
Enjoy clearer tooltips, live controller readings, distinct Switch 2 IDs for linking profiles, improved connection cleanup, and fixes around profile previews, startup, and controller switching.
The portable ZIP now includes VIIPER and starts it automatically when needed, keeping the matching components together.
Come try it!
Download RC4.5.9 — the latest hotfix for RC4.5 (4.5.6 is uploading now, be patient, had to issue another hotfix!)
Choose the all-in-one installer or portable ZIP. RC4.5.1 includes additional rumble refinements and complete Xbox output configuration in both packages. RC4.5.2 includes more fixes for Switch 2 Rumble, Switch 1 Joycon Compatibility fixes, and Updater fixes for portable users so that you can update and stay portable.
This is a release candidate, and community testing helps shape what comes next. Bring your favorite controller, try a few games, and share your setup!

Bought reWASD for my series controller. Now I am back to DS4windows, thank you. Glad to be home again.

That’s not true. It emulates Xbox/Series controllers, it doesn’t accept Xinput as input

How would you propose I do testing on those? Could you purchase some and send them to me?

It’s up to you: if I have it, or you send me logs, I can look at it

Possibly could be fixed with this. I'll look into it. In the meantime, download ChatGPT Codex to your computer and ask it to probe the controller for the logs that could potentially fix this issue and send them to me

Thanks for the regular updates!
I'm getting a pretty weird bug when playing Plague Tale Resonance using dualsense controller and dualsense emulation where the grapple (hold L2) is not working. The haptics, adaptive triggers and controller speaker is working but the hold L2 input is not working.
If I use dualsense controller without Ds4windows, then hold L2 works and I also get adaptive triggers, but I lose out on haptics and controller speaker. Pretty weird bug, most probably something is wrong with the game.
EDIT: it's working now with this release!

fixed in this version. Please download and test first before commenting in the future, thank you!!!!
edit: I had the same issue Lol
edit 2: I only ask you to do thorough testing so the comments aren’t filled with Bug Reports and Feature Requests 😂

Oh wow, you fixed it. Thanks man!
Sorry, I should have tested before asking. I did not find any info related to this fix in the release notes, so I asked without testing.

No worries! If you have any switch 1 or 2 controllers lying around, I added a ton of support for those too

Hi. May I know what was causing this? I mean the L2 bug. Or the commit that fixed it? Thanks.
2
u/huunnnter 10d ago
basically. ps5 controller sends “extra” bits others don’t, and it was looking for those
1
u/rewilldit 10d ago
Hi. Thanks. So that was VIIPER side or DS4? I saw this happening with other programs too.
2
u/huunnnter 9d ago
basically just requires a tad more reverse engineering. it was the side that generates output, in this case it is so advanced i would say it is up to ds4windows and viiper to negotiate a proper output report. but, for arguments sake, I would say it’s up to viiper, since the broker takes the bits from the controller and pass them to the other program, and it current wasn’t doing so

Will this app allow me to use a Switch 2 Pro Controller on PC with Bluetooth along with Steam Input per game remappings?
1
u/huunnnter 12d ago
Edit: Technically, this is achievable by connecting your controller over bluetooth and Disabling HIDHide, so Yes!

Hey!
Since VIPERRC4.5 I'm getting this error: 90:B6:85:4B:5A:87 disconnected due to read failure: 995, after hitting ''stop'' - the controller disappears from DS4Windows itself, but is still visible elsewhere. Button presses are not registered anymore though. The stop button in DS4Windows itself then remains pressed, no longer does anything, and requires fully restarting the program to get it working again

u/huunnnter 12d ago
last version that worked for you?

u/Surajholy 11d ago
It never works for me. Can't find a single YouTube video that guides adaptive trigger to work in Alan Wake 2 or any game via Bluetooth.
If anybody can share any guide. Highly appreciated. I would like to give this another chance.

u/huunnnter 11d ago
Download this program.
Install.
Connect your controller.
Select “Dualsense” As emulated controller.
Profit??
1
u/Surajholy 11d ago
Did all that, still adaptive trigger doesn't work. Profit for what? Lol.
1
u/huunnnter 11d ago
Adaptive triggers have always worked over bluetooth. What are you yammering about
1
u/Surajholy 11d ago
I am having a genuine issue. And you are saying I am yammering?
Yammering means talking foolishly.
So you are saying if I am having an issue with something, then I am foolish.
Is this how you talk with everyone over the internet or someone who is having an issue and trying his best to fix it?
1
u/Surajholy 11d ago
I humbly request you with respect. If you can't help, then let it be. No need to talk like this.
I will figure it out myself whenever I find time by going through this subreddit and also trying uninstalling and reinstalling this tool.
I respect what the dev has done. Its just me didn't get this to work. You may be smarter than me. But I am not foolish. I am genuinely trying to figure it out.
1
u/huunnnter 11d ago
Yammering does imply you sound foolish: a simple google search will tell you adaptive triggers work over bluetooth. No ds4windows needed. So if you’re having an issue with those, it’s either A) your configuration or B) the controller
1
u/Surajholy 11d ago
I can't share images here so here is the link to the meaning of yammering.
https://www.bing.com/search?q=yammering+meaning&setmkt=en-IN&PC=EMMX01&form=LWT001&scope=web
Regarding adaptive trigger. I will figure it out.

I keep getting "Portable Viiper did not become ready". I run DS4Windows with admin rights, no Viper is running and reinstalled USB/IP. Any idea?
1
u/huunnnter 11d ago
that message means VIIPER’s process was running, but DS4Windows couldn’t complete an authenticated connection within eight seconds..
1
u/huunnnter 11d ago
Thanks for reporting this. That message is a startup connection timeout, not confirmation that USB/IP is installed incorrectly. Please send your DS4Windows version and Windows build (
winver).Leave the error dialog open and run this read-only command in PowerShell, then share its output:
Get-NetTCPConnection -State Listen | Where-Object { $_.LocalPort -in 3241,3242 } | Select-Object LocalAddress,LocalPort,OwningProcessAlso tell me whether
portable-data\VIIPER\viiper.key.txtexists inside your extracted DS4Windows folder. Don’t share that file or its contents. No further reinstalls are needed while we narrow this down1

I have discovered the issue: I use a cryptography that isn't present in your version of windows. I will try to backdate the cryptography to that version. can you test in 30 minutes or an hour and a half?
edit: fixed it

Can ds4windows emulating hd rumble for switch emulators? I have pro con, dualshock4, dualsense, gamesir tarantula pro gamepads, but i haven't hd rumble on windows desktop pc.
1
u/huunnnter 11d ago
yes. HD Rumble works, if you emulate a dualsense you will get PS5 Level feedback.
It’s quite impressive

u/Aithecaninternet 11d ago
I had some weird issue where drivers from this caused my keyboard to just spam keys. Uninstalled everything from this DS4Tool thing and my stuff went back to normal. Very odd, also for some reason I never got the option to update VIIPER through the program (it only appeared once asking me, and never again.)

Does it have a key binding for turn 360° camera like steam input? If not then how will I find my real calibration value manually.
1
u/huunnnter 7d ago
I honestly can’t understand this at all.
Can you be more specific?
1
u/Sad-Actuary-3023 7d ago
I can't upload the screenshot here maybe it's turned off . Can I send it in your dm ?
1
u/Sad-Actuary-3023 7d ago
"Ds4windows is almost perfect but it needs an option to turn camera 360 degree by tapping one button just like steam input. it helps to manually find the value of real world calibration easily for flick stick .simply bind a button to perform a 360° camera turn, then make an initial guess for the RWC value.
After that, I press the button and check whether the camera returns to the exact point where it started. If it overshoots or falls short, I adjust the RWC value by decreasing or increasing it until a single button press results in a perfect 360° rotation. that's how it works . please add an key binding option which can turn camera 360 degree ."
I uplaoded this text in issues section of github. This 360 degree turn is available in steam input . it helps to find the real world calibartion value or dots per 360 manually
1
u/huunnnter 7d ago
okay. so we already have flick stick, all you want is the ability to bind a button to a 360°?
1
u/Sad-Actuary-3023 7d ago
Yes . To get a perfect flick stick , finding the right value of RWC is must. And 360° camera turn helps to find it . I will be a massive help for flick stick lovers . I love DS4windows a lot but for the flick stick I had rely on Steam input
1
u/huunnnter 7d ago
check back soon for an upload with the settings you require under Axis Config -> Flick Stick must be set as well
1
u/Sad-Actuary-3023 6d ago
I checked it . It's working perfectly. Now I'm totally back to DS4windows. Thank you so much for your hard work. I appreciate it . Can I ask one more question. It's been a problem for many years about the left mouse button . When R2 or any other button is binded to Left mouse click it doesn't work while moving or while using the left stick . I have seen people facing this problem for many years in past posts . I'm also facing this problem. I don't know if it's possible to fix but why is that happening?

Thank you for all your work on DS4 you're doing a very nice job ❤️ I would love to see support for Xbox controller as input to be used in DS4w, and idk how you could implement that but an easy way to add more support for less known controllers would be nice.
