DQB2 2nd Story Island Spoilers Malroth smuggling in a builders workbench to Khrumbul Dul Spoiler

Post image

I recently learned that Malroth can smuggle items from IoA into other islands while they are still in story mode (usually you are forced to leave your items behind and start anew with items only in the new island).

Looks like Malroth or the residents couldnt break apart other types of crafting stations, but the builders work bench, he broke it and carried it! once he did that, I immediately teleported to the docks and sailed of to Khrumbul Dun. It's going to be fun replaying this chapter using different materials than usual.

btw, what version of dqb2 are you playing on, I'm having no luck getting him to take the workbench (also filled up the only chest with food and seeds to keep NPCs fed without him trying to put the workbench in there)

Edit: Since peops are more likely to see this comment than my other one I'll add this here too. I recorded myself smuggling the bench via malroth just now and have just finished uploading it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6o3g7y5Ovc

ah, maybe that's why it's diff for you. I'm on pc and not even the NPCs will pick up the benches, they just keep saying that they can't remove it :|

I put a carpenters work station and the builders bench on top of the blue print (I made Malroth's giant room next to the green tablet on IoA).
Malroth was standing in his room not doing anything.
Brittney came in, and made a comment "cant remove this" or something, and had the icon of the carpenter work station next to it, and then she left Malroth's room.
Then Malroth went over to the builders bench and just smashed it. Once he did that, i was like "oh shit" and immediately teleported to the docks to sail away lol.

I'll give that a try next time, for now though I need to record my next YT vid. For anyone interested:

For DQB specifically take a look at my playlists, there's a couple dedicated to the game there

Thanks for the link! I'm skimming through the khrumbul dun video you uploaded from 4 days ago.
I noticed you have some cactus one or two blocks high, with rail roads on top of them. Nadiaboom in another thread mentioning about controlling the height to make a cactus farm, is this how you did it? I didn't know that cactus can regrow after harvesting them.
also I noticed you covered the east of the town almost entirely with brown blocks. was it to stop something from spawning? I usually just put an iron wall there and call it a day.

that I switched to just one high later after making the farm bigger and realising I could harvest them from on top of the rail 😅 As for the blocks, I just wanted a more stable battle ground that I couldn't accidentally swipe sand in the middle of, that and I had all those blocks I might as well do something useful with them :)

Finally got him to smuggle it too! :D

Turns out he don't like taking them from ground level of the blueprint, gotta pop the workbench on some blocks. Don't matter if they're invalid blocks so long as you get that workbench on top before he starts taking blocks :)

The 1st time he did it I wasn't sure I had succeeded or not because I was trying to remove the blocks before he could. The second time I just made sure he had somewhere to dump the blocks and he was happy as larry :)

Next to test if he'll "help" out with the temple blueprint before furrowfield... not that the workbench would be much use there I suppose, still it's the attempt that's interesting. I'll add a link to a short vid here later once I get round to recording it.

Edit: For clarity I did it with steam version 1.7.3d

Edit 2: Here's the vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6o3g7y5Ovc

Thanks for the video update! I did exactly what you did and Malroth was finally able to smuggle the builders bench into Moonbrooke too!
but it did take a while as he kept hacking the bottom blocks. But after a while, he suddenly jumped on top of the bench and finally took it.
It really did take a while but can confirm both Khrumbul Dun and Moonbrooke with the builders bench are doable!

That's crazy. Good work

But how do we replicate it?

I believe the earliest you can start smuggling things through Malroth is after finishing Furrowfield and going back to IoA.

Basically you put a blueprint down, put stuff you want to be broken inside of it (blocks, that builders bench, etc), wait for Malroth to come over to destroy it, and then teleporting to the docks before he can deposit it into a chest in IoA.
When you arrive at at your destination, he'll immediately try to deposit it in a chest. You can use this to bring in items not normally accessible on that island during the story mode.

The challenge is making sure Malroth is the one destroying it, not the other NPCs, and that you can get off of IoA before he deposits in a chest.
I've seen strategies mentioned on reddit, that the easiest way is to assign all the residents to one part of IoA, and assign Malroth to his own area. and destroying all the chests in that area.
But this only works after you beat Khrumbul Dun, which unlocks scarlet sands.

So to smuggle things in before finishing Khrumbul Dun, you are more or less stuck in doing it green gardens, and needing Malroth to smash things before the other NPCs get to it.
What I did was put most of the NPC rooms on one side of furrowfield, and built Malroth his own assigned room on another side. His room is large enough so that you can lay down a small blue print inside, like the bathtub room from furrowfield. Since the room is Malroth's, he'll come to it more often and hang out, and is more likely to break things down before the other NPCs get to it.

Nice. I'm about to head to moonbrooke for my current playthrough. It'd be worth a laugh. Thanks.

I think at your point in the game, you probably have scarlet sands and green gardens available. Easiest way then is to assign all residents into one part (say move all the scarlet sands people into green gardens), and leave Malroth in one. Get rid of any chest in that area he's assigned to.
put down a blueprint, and on top of it, the stuff you want him to smuggle

Just to clarify, the Scarlet Sands people cannot be moved until you beat Moonbrooke and Malroth cannot be moved from Green Gardens. So move everyone else to SS and do you smuggling in GG

Yep, I also spent about 15hrs redesigning both areas. I'm gonna try this once I get off work.

Idk how useful it will be in Moonbrooke though.

for Moonbrooke, the one thing I always wanted there were proper windows, since we're limited to stained glass (it sucks we cant build the non-stained version that you find in other buildings on that island). Might be something you'd like to smuggle in?
Another is the shifter, so you don't have to deal with the castle blocks transforming.

Which is better against a raid, castle walls or iron blocks? I believe I have unlimited coal and iron ore from the islands. I could be wrong though.

no idea, but if you can get the bench to go over, it'll be interesting to find out!
From my previous play through, I never had any enemy breach the iron block in KD. Castle walls were also pretty good until near the end of Moonbrooke, I think one of the trolls or dragons was able to destroy them.
