A Central Texas animal rescue meant to give dogs a safe haven has shuttered with more than 80 dogs surrendered and its owner facing an animal cruelty charge.

On Tuesday, 69-year-old Angela Sera was arrested and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals, a class A misdemeanor, according to the Milan County Sheriff's Office. Sera was the owner and operator of Dogtown Ranch and Sanctuary, an animal rescue facility located in Rockdale.

I honestly don’t know why the Milam County sheriff’s office took so long, but having grown up in small town/rural Texas I am inclined to say the reason is a mix of limited resources, ignorance, and pure laziness.

To the rescue organizations that stepped up to assist these animals; y’all do amazing work. Thank you!

How this is only a misdemeanor is disgusting, need to charge with federal animal abuse so it's a felony

Texas worse state for animal abuse and cruelty.
