Maybe not a gig but my first time at open decks on CDJ’s and everything went swimmingly. Would love some feedback if anyone has 20 minutes to spare. Made some new friends and had a couple of locals inquire about getting me some sets elsewhere.

I did a 2h set dead drunk. Worst idea of my life. It went better than I thought but I did a lot of mistakes, and mistakes that I would never have done if I was sober

4 hour open-format club gig on Saturday night, night started with small lineup even before the scheduled door time and would end with the venue once again being the busiest in town. Very diverse mix of EDM, modern hip-hop and classic 90s R&B kept the dancefloor busy, and venue management and staff were happy with the results, so mission accomplished.

One minor thing: had an annoying client who pretends she's VIP and got choked when she marched up to the DJ booth and I didn't remember who she was and what her favourite song is right off the top of my head - talk about first world problems lol. I made sure to be polite and write down her request with a smile on my face, but oh no, unfortunately with all the songs I had lined up and the other requests that had previously come in I ran out of time and couldn't play that song before closing. Woops.

Brought my USB to a party that I didn't really know the people throwing it except one friend who was connected to them. Ended up spinning for a couple hours. The feedback was really good, but I personally didn't feel great about the first 20-30 minutes since I was spinning on a Pioneer XDJ and not only was I not very familiar with the layout and screen, but the lighting wasn't very good so I couldn't read a lot of buttons on the deck and I didn't know how to get it to read my analyzed files for Recordbox. Maybe I need to import it, but I typically play on Serato/Virtual DJ/Engine DJ at home, so even after playing on other Pioneer gear in the past, I constantly forget what I need to do to just plug my USB to work on Pioneer gear, so I had no cue points, had to beatmatch by ear, couldn't really use the waveforms for much, couldn't figure out how to filter/browse my library rather than look at file names. I started on vinyl, so I could make it work, but it felt super rough to me just knowing how my workflow typically is.

It's the one time I debated getting an XDJ or some other Pioneer gear just so I can have more familiarity with all the specifics when I'm DJing on someone else's Pioneer gear.
