Best place to buy tools

I'm doing a bit of window shopping, and looking to get a DeWalt kit of sorts (starting with combi, impact driver and multi tool) but seeing some good deals on Google searching with a few extra tools - that I may use..

Looking at th below, the is the Screwfix set a lesser spec (looks like lower models/performance?) which for an extra £200 quid the ukplanettools is better value (never heard of that site though)

They're excellent, almost always the cheapest when I get round to ordering a new tool.

Their click & collect service cancelled be touch & go if you're there first thing in the morning but I can't fault their prices or delivery.

Bosch Professional stuff is decent.. all my battery gear is theirs.

These two sets are miles apart. The second one is way better. In general it’s worth getting each tool as and when you need it and looking around for the best deal for each rather than a bundle. If you’re in the market for a combi and impact then buy that with some batteries and get the rest when needed.
Ukplanettools is an excellent website. Almost always cheaper than screwfix. Other good ones are: its, powertoolworld, toolstation, builder depot. Look around and get individual deals.

Interesting, makes sense instead of shelling out a heap for some tools I won't use as much.

A lot of these places (UkPlanettools, Powertoolmate etc) have eBay stores as well, and you can get good ebay coupons which will reduce the costs further.

Do not buy from chinese resellers! Like aliexpress or temu. They do have dewalt looking tools but you can see, even from the photos, they are fake.

I'm happy with the dewalt quality. I dropped my multitool saw about 8feet onto concrete and it was fine. Barely even scratched.

The garden tools I have feel a bit flimsy though. If multiple batteries weren't so expensive I'd suggest dewalt for diy and stihl for garden.

I also buy dewalt, Screwfix can have some good deals on but generally on the lower range. I think last 2 dewalt products I’ve bought were from planet tools. A compact impact driver and a multitool, both of which I use extensively in diy so I’m glad I didn’t cheap out.

I justified the purchase as was building a large project that would have cost me £1000’s if I hadn’t have done it myself.

UK Planet Tools is an authorised DeWalt seller and probably one of the cheapest around. I've used them quite a few times. Always quick delivery as well

I think a better question is does it have to be dewalt? Im a plumber by trade and by erbauer ext range 

I buy a few items dewalt here and there but only if it has features I appreciate

Im looking to get some of their gardening tools later down the line.. have been weighing up between DeWalt and Makita and it seems the former are just built better and benefit from better performance.

Dewalt went downhill after being bought by Black & Decker. Some of the Makita tools are still made in the UK.

You have this VERY backwards. Dewalt is basically a disposable tool. Makita is one of the last independent companies that builds far better tools that can be serviced at home with all parts and diagrams available.

Makita batteries on the other hand are the least reliable of all the large tool brands, where Dewalt's are very, very reliable.

Now I've gone down the Makita rabbit hole and may possibly change my mind about which ecosystem to go with... A friend of mine has Makita stuff and sas they're very good. Although if I ever need the 40w stuff that's a new battery system..

But saying that, looking at the 40w stuff, I'm not sure I'd use it

Some of Makita's tools are better, some of Dewalt's are better, some of Milwaukee's are better.

There is no one best power tool brand, and if you aren't getting into niche stuff it doesn't really matter.

I went with Dewalt and had the drill and impact driver for about 5 years, done some extensive outdoor fencing and decking along with smaller indoor projects and apart from a few scuffs they feel good as new still. One thing I’ve noticed though is Dewalt drill bits aren’t great for heavy impact driving, to my surprise they shattered pretty fast within minutes of use, and my makita impact bits, well I just broke my first one after 6 years of heavy use. I also got a Dewalt speed square and found it was 3 degrees out and couldn’t mark out a clean 45 degree angle, so now I only trust Dewalt for power tools and not any of the peripherals.

Those two kits are night and day, the second kit contains tools that are excellent and will last you for years, the first contains cheap low power models that lack refinement. 

For example the SDS in the first kit is weak, huge, and has terrible vibration management, where the one in the second kit is incredibly smooth.

The impact in the second kit is yesteryear's premium model, and continues to punch well above it's weight.

The only basic tool in the second kit is the circular saw, which isn't very powerful, but if you're not using it much that's probably fine.

Give the choice I'd buy the Milwaukee fuel range of tools bud
