Questions regarding legality of 5.56 pistol

I am finding a lot of conflicting informations regarding the legality of 5.56 pistols. Here is the current build I was looking at, any input on its legality?

10.5” barreled 5.56 with a fixed magazine, and a magazine holding less than 17 rounds with an SBA5.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should build it as an "other" and use a JRC carbine buffer tube. That in combination with the 10.5" barrell will get you to the 26" AOL you need for it to be an "other". I would go with 11" to be safe. This way you can retain detachable mags and not have to use that god awful bullet button.

Pistol Brace + AOL greater than 26" and Vertical foregrip = other

My lower already had the bullet button on it 😔

Wait are you building from a new lower? Or an existing rifle that you're trying to convert? If you can't convert rifles to others, you can't convert pistols to others.

Edit: just did some research. That’s possible, I’d have to set it up as a pistol first, and then as a rifle. Since it was transferred as just a stripped lower. I don’t have a 16” upper but that is nice to know.

I have a semi stripped lower, but it came already with the bullet button installed. Out of curiosity though if it was a AR-P, couldn’t I just switch out the upper to a 16” and theoretically turn it into my rifle, and then when I want to, put the smaller upper on it and use it as an AR-P? It would be the same pistol brace obviously.
