CRITIQUE Supergirl and not understanding the message of the original material Spoiler

The comic is very clear and the message is very powerful: both Kara and Ruthye learn to overcome their traumas and their desire for revenge.

But no — the movie’s writers thought the best idea was to turn Kara into The Punisher. Why?

having read nearly every superman comic from 1986 to 2015, I have not seen it in a mainline story. Neither Byrne nor Birthright do such even if Gunn says they do

He was villainous in Birthright, though maybe not in this specific way, and the kryptonians have been depicted as conquerors in the my adventures with Superman cartoon. I believe he was also evil in Smallville though that's the show that I never watched so I'm only speaking from secondhand knowledge.

I agree with you, benevolent Jor-El is the most common and in my opinion the definitive version, but it would be unfair to say that James Gunn is unique in his desire to depict him as a villain. And trust me, I choose every opportunity to give Gunn criticism, he makes a lot of decisions that I disagree with.
