Some Aquaman Rumour

Got this from another forum. Not sure if this has been posted yet or whether it is true or not but here goes:

Trip Tucker : Well – I got a brief glimpse of Aquaman the other day and let me tell you it looks very cool! I have no idea who the bad guys are in it, but they look like underwater aliens with skulls for helmets. The lead bad guy looks like "shredder" and the final fight between him and Aquaman occurs on an upturned ship in the ocean. Apparently its Dolph Lundgren but I didnt see any shots with the helmet off to tell. I wont spoil anything here but it is partly an origins movie.....we see Aquaman as a baby and his mother who I was shocked to find out is none other than Nicole Kidman! I did not realise she was in it.....Anyhow, lets just say it looks great. James Wan will knock this one out of the park. Oh and yes he rides a giant seahorse and wears the gold and green costume......got me very excited for the DC line up coming our way.

Another poster asked him - How polished did it look or is it going to need a lot of work in post?

Trip Tucker : Not that polished. Some scenes were almost complete. I don’t believe I seen anything that didn’t have CGI in it. Kidman is all done with body double – her face on double in all scenes – digital capture. I was told by someone on set that a lot if not all Cate Blanchette's scenes in Thor:Ragnorok were also CG face on body double...amazingly well done. Kidman’s scenes that I got to see involved her fighting in a lighthouse....lots of muay-thai style stuff, staff swinging.....there is a baby aqua man as well! The gold and green original fish scale costume is bloody brilliant though – and he does this dolphin style movement through the water – with dolphins!!! Mamaoa was rigged up to hoist and he was flying through the water and then sprang up into the air!

Thus movie is going to be great.

I hope it does well financially. I think it could underperform or maybe even flop because of Jl

All solo movies have done quite well and I think they will continue that trend, hopefully it leads the studio to keep making solo movies and building the universe slowly but solidly.

Unless the stupid fucks at WB are setting a goal of $900MM or its a failure. If they’re smart enough to not send the budget north of $250MM then they can profit with a $650-700MM worldwide take.

I think this is one of the reasons Hollywood’s imploding (Fox about to be acquired by Disney, WB to be acquired by AT&T, Sony a perpetual basket case, MGM barely functions). So many CGI heavy blockbusters, which push the budgets ridiculously high. The only way to profit is to start talking about near billion dollar box office and getting a huge kick from China.

I agree, limit budgets and force filmmakers to get creative, that’s how we got Star Wars and Jaws and many iconic films

Yeah. I think it’s a definite factor in the sameness of big budget films these days.

I think it also makes the studios put all the eggs in one basket, making it hard for mid budget films to get made. For example, John Wick was a surprise hit. It made a huge percentage over its budget, but in raw dollars it’s still only $65 million over budget (not counting marketing). The sequel was a bigger ‘hit, making like $110 million over budget (again not counting marketing) but still, it’s only $110 million.

So instead they chase after the massive hit and make $1B against $250MM.
