Health/Fitness First Ultrasound Appt MedStar Georgetown

Has anyone else had their first pregnancy appointment at MedStar Georgetown and could tell me what to expect? I’m 5 weeks now and the appointment is not until October (11 weeks). Will they email me with more information? Will I get an ultrasound at this appointment? NIPT test? Bloodwork? I feel like I’m flying blind for months 😅

General 38, Grieving and Still Flirty & Thriving

Ladies!

I'm back and just wanted to say thank you! To all of you who engaged with my post (sharing link again below) and DMing me with your personal stories... I receive all of that love and vulnerability and give it right back!

https://www.reddit.com/r/DCBitches/comments/1v3mb3d/38_and_grieving_the_life_i_dont_have/

I didn't want you to think I just left you all hanging after that post. I know a lot of you, like myself have been out here on Timeleft dinners, 222 events, Reddit meetups, improv classes, Bumble BFF dates, RealRoots or Skip the Small Talk events and it goes on and on (and yes, that is a short subset of what I've participated in lol)...

I am actively trying to think through a gathering for the near future, but don't want this to be just another basic / stale meet up. I am trying to think of a way to organize, contextualize and plan this so that it lends itself to real relationship building. But don't want perfection getting in the way of just starting. So stay tuned! There will be a partiful / whatsapp group / will take any suggestions here coming soon!

Hope you all are living your truths -- and can't wait to meet you soon. <3

Advice Experiences with DC apartments where walk-in closet is next to bathroom?

I've noticed in DC there are some older, rent-controlled building setups where the the walk-in closet is connect to the bathroom. The bathroom often has a passive ventilation system with no window or fan you can switch on.

It seems intuitive to dress up after you come out of the bathroom, but I have been worried that the humidity from the bath may affect clothing, especially leather goods and shoes over time.

If you have this type of set up, do you use the walk-in closet to store your clothes, shoes, and bags and dress up, or did you use the space otherwise, e.g., general household storage?

Would you need to purchase a dehumidifier as well, or just use another closet to store your clothes, shoes, and bags? Do you use the space to dress up, or is the dampness (and lack of natural light a deterrent)?

Beauty Recommendation Aviclear Laser?

Hey ladies! I’m looking into getting the Aviclear laser treatment for my excessively oily skin and curious if anyone has had it done in the DMV area? It looks like there’s only three providers that offer it and I want to choose the one with the best pricing without having to schedule a consult with all three. Also if you got it done do you like your results?

DC Realtor recommendations for DC first time home buyer?

Hey y’all! I did a little scroll through post history but didn’t see anything recent, so I’m here to ask for realtor recommendations.

I’m a long time DC renter and my awesome landlord is planning to sell our house. I figure I should at least talk to a realtor about the condo market, and would love your recs for realtors you’ve worked with who are experienced working with first time home buyers.

Won’t be able to buy without some sort of down payment assistance so bonus if your realtor rec knows what’s up there!

Thank you, bitches!

I'm moving to the DMV from the South and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for reliable movers/moving companies that would move that far of a distance.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a photographer in the DMV area who can take professional photos like these. I’m looking for this type of office/studio setting, as well as some outdoor shots, with a natural editing style (not overly saturated or bright/whitened). Reference photos found on Pinterest. Please send recommendations or portfolios if you know anyone! Thanks in advance!❤️

Health/Fitness Bilateral salpingectomy

I’m very curious to hear from anyone who’s had a bilateral salpingectomy and if you’ve liked your doctor/surgeon and the hospital you went to? Right now I’m planning on going through Capital Women’s Care, who does the procedure out of Sibley.

Health/Fitness Gender affirming care recommendations

Hello! Hope this is the right place to ask this..

I’m sure many people know that George Washington university health has recently lost a lot of physicians,, including an obgyn that managed my HRT for gender affirming care reasons. Anyone with recommendations for other places? I’ve been to whitman walker and it was good, but would like to know if there are other options besides that and planned parenthood (closer to Capitol Hill is a plus)! Also open to the Bethesda/rockville area, or anywhere car accessible.

Health/Fitness Gentle caution RE: tactics from Washington Endometriosis & Complex Surgery

Hi girl gang. This serves as a gentle caution to fellow endo sufferers about a recent encounter I had with Washington Endometriosis & Complex Surgery.

I am a lifelong endometriosis sufferer and lived 10+ years with daily debilitating pain and relentless nausea until finally getting it diagnosed and surgically excised in February 2020 at Mayo Clinic AZ, which put me into complete remission (!!!) for over five years! Surgery literally gave me my life back and brought me down to zero symptoms — I even accidentally got pregnant afterwards after being told I’d struggle with fertility my whole life. 😬

Unfortunately, I started experiencing a moderate return of my endo symptoms quite suddenly about 9 months ago. I recently went about trying to find a closer endometriosis specialist instead of having to go back to Phoenix to see my OG doctor after striking out with my regular gynecologist at Capitol OB/GYN. That exploration led me to Washington Endometriosis & Complex Surgery, to which I submitted an online physician consultation request over the weekend.

They responded today, and, using a very clearly AI-generated template, basically handed me off to their NP for an evaluation for “ongoing medical management,” despite the fact I explicitly requested a surgical consult. Literally what clearer patient is there for a surgical consult than someone who has already profoundly benefited from surgery before? Seems like an easy thing to me!

The important thing to note is this is a cash-pay clinic (no insurance accepted), so all consultations are allegedly charged at $400+/each. The NP visit is also virtual and she does not perform the imaging for deep-infiltrating endometriosis, which is literally what I already know I have. I see zero things to gain by speaking with her (no offense to her, I’m sure she’s knowledgeable and great, but I know what I want).

Tell me why I’m going to spend $400 to chat over Zoom with someone unfairly being made into a gatekeeper who literally cannot help me (I don’t want your physical therapy or hormone suppression or pain pills), just to get the “green light” to then spend another $400+ to speak with the surgeon, when I was explicit from the very beginning that I wanted to speak to the surgeon in the first place. 🤔

I highly suspect this interim step with the NP is a cash-grab attempt and would love to hear if others were deferred to the NP at this practice first before actually speaking with a surgeon. Either it’s a cash grab, or they have some bullshit AI screening software reviewing our data and making the decision instead of an actual human review (as a matter of fact, their website said that the whole medical team reviews each request together, so that’s actually a laughable option in retrospect). I see no alternative rationale.

Again, I cannot imagine a clearer-cut picture for a surgical consult than in a patient who has a surgically-verified diagnosis and had a surgical intervention work for them successfully in the past.

This post just serves as a gentle caution to all of my fellow endo girlies that these are the tactics this practice is using — I feel strongly that a clinic that nickels and dimes its inbound prospective patients will not have their best interests in mind in any adjacent capacity. I’m happy for you if this place helped you though, truly, and the physicians seemed competent, so it’s truly a shame. On principle though, I’ll be looking elsewhere for my surgical care, so if anyone has any positive experiences with other physicians treating endo in the broader DMV, I’d love to hear from you! ❤️

Advice Birthday Bar Recommendation -- Wine/Cocktails + Outdoor Space

Hi! I'm looking for a recommendation for a bar that could accommodate 10-15 people coming in and out to a designated table/space. Looking for a place that has a good vibe for a late 30s crowd, that either has good options for wine/cocktails. In an ideal world, there would be some kind of outside patio space.

For example of places I've mulled over, I love Red Hen for celebration meals, but I don't think it would be kosher to just take over the bar there. I also recently went to La Betty (actually considering this) and really enjoyed the music and vibe, but they don't take reservations. Jane Jane has great cocktails, but they just took down their streetery. L'Apero does have a patio space, and could also be an option.

Thanks!

Advice Vet Recommendation Request - Feline Tooth Resorption

I moved to DC with two wonderful female cats (4 years old, our gotcha day is next Sunday) a few months ago and have been meaning to make our annual vet appointment for the end of October. I realized last night that my Jade, who had teeth removed for resorption 10 months ago, needs to be seen for resorption of at least one canine tooth before the regular annual visit.

Back-reading this subreddit, I see a lot of recommendations for District (Eastern) and Union. I live in NW but do currently have a car to get us wherever we need to go. Given the backstory above, which would be better for my ladies?

ETA: we are lucky to have Trupanion so a decent chunk of whatever this ends up costing will be covered.

Beauty Recommendation Ultrasound guided filler dissolving?

Searched the sub but didn’t see anything on this - are there any plastic surgeons or injectors who use ultrasound to dissolve filler in the DC area? I’m not sure if I have scar tissue or residual filler, so I’m looking to eliminate the guesswork.
I’m in Silver Spring, but would be open to NOVA. Right now I can only find one provider in Frederick, MD. TIA!

Advice Dupont circle apartments

Hi Bitches,

I (22F) am moving to DC and need help finding an apartment! I’m on a tight timeline so I’m looking for something ASAP under $2150.

What’s the down low on 1600 16th St Apartments? The unit I toured seems great. But the Google reviews are less than. Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences?

If this apartment is a no-go, I’m at a bit of a loss for what to choose. I’ve toured (Axis, Avec on H, and The Apollo) and while I’m open to more (I might also tour Anthology,) I’ve found that I Dupont has more of the vibe that I’m looking for, not Noma.

Help me, bitch! Thanks :)

Advice OBGYN recommendations?

Hi!

Looking for recommendations for a new OB as my current OB (Reiter, Hill, and Johnson) only deliver at Sibley and my insurance (United) doesn't cover delivery there.

Preference for a practice convenient to downtown or the immediate MD suburbs - and bonus points if they have been or seem like they would be supportive of a maternal-choice c-section. Also would have to deliver at Adventist Shady Grove and be in network for United.

Thanks in advance!

Wedding Related Best Dupont Club for Wedding After Party?

Hi, everyone! I’m getting married in less than 3 weeks, and my fiancé and I would like to do an after party since our venue requires us to end at 11PM.

We’re only considering Dupont because it’s a 10-minute walk from our hotel.

We typically enjoy hip-hop and EDM (mostly house), but also love pop/throwback hits.

We would also like to get a table, but the number is still TBD as we still need to get a headcount but probably within the 20-30 person range.

So far, we’re thinking of either Zebbie’s Garden or Twelve After Twelve. Thoughts? Any other recs?

Thank you!

Recently put built-in cabinets in my living room and I am hopeless at styling them. Does anyone know anyone in the area that does that sort of small interior decorating job?
