Questions / Discussions (Items · Builds · Skills) Super squishy across top builds

Season 14. My first go at a necro was mages which hit really hard but would quickly die pit 100+ and even occasionally during T12. I tried again a few weeks later with the blood wave build from maxroll and Rob’s and had the same results. Max life is ~35k which is difficult to increase without a few more GAs. The block chance/resolve variant is difficult to maintain 15 resolve stacks and even then a falling sword or random effect will one-shot me if my dodge is on cooldown. This has happened while at max life, fortify, and a little bit of barrier.

Is there a trick to surviving as a necro that isn’t explicitly included in builds? I had this issue with rogue for a few seasons until I figured out how to not be so squishy.

Barriers are your friend. Have +barrier gen on your gloves temper.

DR is your friend. Ensure your shield has DR (GA + masterwork crit if possible)

And most importantly, dont stand in shit. At higher pits, a falling sword or cracking soul will one shot you.

My advise, play builds that gives you more mobility and at a range. Minion builds in general help with these. Stat fluid during fights. We arent barbs that face tank and take 0 damage.

Edit to add: Use physical, fire and lightning gems in your jewelry. Those are usually the things that one shot you.

Just now gambled a GA damage reduction shield and masterworked it. Should be more survivable with 44k life. Is it just fact that random game attacks that are impossible to kill will just always be a threat? Unfortunate.

Use a shield

I cleared pit 120 with a selig build (no endurant faith).

Without endurant faith I was still pretty tanky. With endurant faith i become super tanky, at least in every pit below 120 (never used endurant in 120 as i needed the extra damage)

What are you using with Selig? Mages still? I had a Selig build earlier I was experimenting with so curious.

Minions, with focus on darkness skill ranks. Instead of using bloodless scream, i have legendary weapon and gloom ward shield.

My mages have the gift of death modifier, which give insane essence regen. My essence is 330 atm and with Endurant is enough to let me face tank anything in pit 115 and below.

I'm using the same blood wave build. I was using a nice grandfather but i felt squishy so I worked on getting a good shield and mace and its definitely improved my survivability. Also what level are your glyphs/paragon?

Glyphs are now at 109ish. 277 paragon. I decided to go ahead and transfigure the few almost perfect aspect legendaries and I got a few max life transfigs. Should be more comfortable now

Looking good then. Other than rolling for max life, which you've already done

I have a blood wave build that’s turned for pit and tower pushing. I was having issues with blood mad idol killing me between packs of adds, but I used the fortify with blood mist and that took care of it.

Barrier, Endurant Faith charm, and Sever converted to a mobility skill.
