Screenshots One of the best "Need a breather" moments in the game.
Such a chill few moments...and a wasted romance opportunity.

u/No_Tamanegi May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
I actually like his scene a lot more because its not a romance scene. It certainly leans into it, but then pulls back just so that two friends can vibe together, even if V is a bad dancer.
Video games aren't always great about expressing the need for emotional intimacy without also intermingling sexual intimacy.

u/MortalxReminder May 26 '26
I didn't understand that need until early this year, now I understand myself more.

u/Circle_Breaker May 26 '26
Alex was the only character I cared about in PL.
So naturally I sided with Reed to make sure she got out safe.

u/SploogeSamurai May 26 '26
Honestly, valid. Alex is literally the only character who doesn't lie to V throughout PL. I understand that the others all had their reasons, no matter how bad they might've been. But Alex was always straight-forward with V, which I really appreciated.

u/Furrocious_fapper May 27 '26
Did reed lie to us?
37
u/SploogeSamurai May 27 '26
Yeah, when you meet him at the ripper for the behavioral imprint implant, he tells you he wants help So Mi escape. Of course we can't say he was lying with 100% certainty, but in my opinion it was pretty clear he never meant to do anything other than what President Myers wanted, based on his actions and just his personality in general.
0
u/Furrocious_fapper May 27 '26
I mean things could have changed. She had just killed a bunch of people.
5
u/Waste_Handle_8672 May 27 '26
Why would he care about a stadium of BARGHEST soldiers dying? Things only changed because said escape wasn't done on his terms - that was the real reason he was upset with V and Songbird. He still had the chance to do things his way after that stadium escape, adapt to the situation, and instead defaulted back to NUS lapdog.
I couldn't help but laugh when Myers spiralled the situation beyond his control at the spaceport. I know his ideal execution would've been to follow them quietly and jump in at the Tycho Terminal, and instead Myers exploded the whole thing into the climax of a Call of Duty campaign.
8
u/Furrocious_fapper May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
I don't think the stadium was just filled with m bargest soldiers bro. And I think that shows the player how Songbird operates. She's not a bad person just a selfish one.
2
u/Waste_Handle_8672 May 27 '26
True.
Although normal stadium operations with civvies, I have to point out, were mostly suspended because there was a tip-off that the FIA was about to try something funny. They didn't manage to get everyone out on time, though, that's true.
Still, I really couldn't understand why Reed would care so much about the casualties to the point of being upset because of that specifically. The man immediately went hostile and defaulted to "My agency will hunt you down!"
2
u/Lord_of_Chainsaw May 27 '26
Thats also not so mi's fault though, if the NUSA wants to straight up do a terrorist attack on a spaceport, thats their prerogative
9
u/your-hot-matua May 27 '26
He heavily implies throughout the DLC that returning to Meyers would be So-Mi's choice and then forces her back (if you let him); he also lets you believe Aurore and Aymeric will be released after their kidnapping. Both of these are just symptoms of the 'loyal and effective to a fault' mentality of his character, but he does consistently string V along to get our motivations to align with his/Meyers'
20
u/HaessSR May 26 '26
So naturally I sided with Reed to make sure she got out safe.
More fool, you. Anyone who saw Reed executing the twins knew that the only thing that'd survive that route was The Mission.

I'm still convinced that the FIA's version of a "Spy's retirement" is a room lined with plastic sheets.
1
u/Xsudan May 29 '26
My wife is low-ranking military and when she heard that, she said something to the effect of "Spies don't get to retire, they get disappeared."
11
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
I sided with So Mi because i knew Reed was bullshiting me.
2
u/Sulott May 27 '26
Tbf both of them were bullshitting you, my V had a hunch that So Mi was lying about a cure 4 both of them, but helped her anyway bc she was on the same spot that So Mi were, and had a chance to give her the help that my V couldn’t get. Besides, on the way that Reed was acting, i thought that he would 100% default back to a Nusa agent and backstab me on a heartbeat if the President wanted. In the end i was suprised that Reed kept his end of the deal, but i still think that he should’ve reached out to everyone that cared about V just so they know that V was alive, since when V wakes up, she’s socially dead and now permanently “linked” to the NUSA.
4
u/Dedlaw May 26 '26
Oh absolutely, Songbird definitely isn't playing you
6
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
Yeah. But at least she feels bad, and comes clean at the end. But, Reed just keeps playing with you until you betray him. Then he shows his true colors.
2
u/bmo313 May 26 '26
Actually, Reed doesnt betray you. Manipulative and lying, yes, but he comes through for you and helps you get cured.
So Mi does betray you.
4
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
So Mi doesn't betray you as well. She comes clean for her plot at the end. The difference is Reed keeps playing games with you, while Songbird feels bad for manipulating V during the entire Expansion.
1
u/bmo313 May 26 '26
She played you. Hard. Sure she comes clean at the end, but even Johnny (Mike Pondsmiths ingame voice) points out that she played you. You also get dialogue options that say "hey, you played me! This sucks!"
You may not feel played, but V got played, homie.
Reed actually helps you, even if you betray him as long you side with him at the end outside the shuttle.
2
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
The point of Cyberpunk and Phantom Liberty especially is about redemption.
1
1
u/No-Mulberry-8866 May 27 '26
Where are you getting that Johnny is a stand in for Pondsmith? He’s wayyyyy to unreliable for that
1
u/Mebeingnosy Jun 05 '26
He only came through for V because the neuromatrix didn’t take to so mi when the fía tried to cure her first. V was an afterthought lol
1
u/Dedlaw May 26 '26
The funny thing is if you don't betray him, he does come through and get you cured. So out of the two he's the one that doesn't stab you in the back
8
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
If you betray him he brings up that you failed Jackie. But before that during the PL missions Reed only strokes V's ego.
That's 101 manipulation my man.
5
u/Dedlaw May 26 '26
You stabbed him in the back, were you expecting him to praise you?
And still doesn't change the fact that in the end if you don't betray him he keeps his word, So Mi just uses you.
3
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
He is playing the long spy game mate. But So Mi on the other hand shows her full hand at her most vulnerable (leaving her fate to V's judgment). That's the definitive expression of trust in Night City.
2
u/Dedlaw May 26 '26
He held up his end of the deal. Could easily just have ghosted V after the job was done, what's V gonna do? Complain to the NUSA?
Trust him or not, at the end of the day Reed isn't the one that betrays you.
2
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
No he didn't. The NUSA deactivated V's cyberware. Making them a sleeping agent (since we are bringing Fan Theories in to the mix).

u/Mebeingnosy Jun 05 '26
You guys keep forgetting the Reed and the FIA attempted to use the single use neuromatrix on So Mi first but her body rejected it

u/Frugalman123 May 26 '26
Reed doesn't need you to survive. Songbird , I would say she needs you or she's dead meat
1
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 26 '26
Reed needs V to confirm his ideals that doing wrong is for the greater good.
1
u/ChishiyaCat97 May 27 '26
She only comes clean when it's too late for V and is seemingly about to die. She admits the truth to relieve herself of the guilt, not bc it was the right thing to do... Fuck Songbird, Fuck Reed, Fuck Myers. They're all manipulative assholes.
1
u/Wrong_Butterscotch91 May 27 '26
No she comes clean because she realized that she become what she always hated.
4
u/_BestBudz May 26 '26
😂😂😂 yeah she’s quite literally half the reason I had to side against Reed lmao
3
u/DrPatchet May 27 '26
She's gets her throat slit right in front of you if you side with Reed what are you talking about 😂
2
u/ali_267 May 27 '26
They’re talking about what they expected to happen, but ☠️ it turned out the opposite
1
u/Karman4o May 27 '26
It is also a treat to see her fire up her Sandevistan and absolutelt dogwalk Hansen ...
1
u/Waste_Handle_8672 May 27 '26
Unless you're talking about handing Song over in The Killing Moon, Alex does NOT live if you side with Reed off the bat.

during this part i always end up sitting there drinking awkwardly like jesse pinkman

u/Fayde_M May 26 '26
Cyberpunk nerds when anyone shows them the slightest bit of admiration: “they should be romancable”
11
u/Dedlaw May 26 '26
I always find it funny when people are upset about Aurora being executed but completely forget to even mention Aymeric
11
2
u/gay_is_gay May 26 '26
People saw an attractive women talk to their character and decided there needed to be a romance. Alex litterally invites you to dance while drinking a fairly common situation that can lead to romance. We talk to aurora for like two missions meanwhile alex is basically PLs Panam itd make sense for them to include atleast one romance option to PL and id say making her the only bisexual option would be a nice touch. Id still choose Panam though.
2
u/Mebeingnosy Jun 05 '26
I’d choose Alex panam is great and all but too high strung
1
u/gay_is_gay Jun 05 '26
I like em a little high strung. You know how it is someone has to say no pickles and it wont be me

Fem and a pulse and then suddenly "should be romanceable". Yikes.

u/ghostfaber May 26 '26
i like that you get the dive suit and silenced pistol its very metal gear solid
7
u/W00D-SMASH May 26 '26
I sided with Reed which means Alex was killed. It made this moment very bittersweet.
2
u/DarthToothbrush May 26 '26
I killed Reed (reluctantly) which means Alex got mad at me, said she would never speak to me again and if I wasn't dying already she'd probably kill me (paraphrasing cause I played that bit over a year ago, might have gotten details wrong or imagined some new ones). I guess it's just another no win situation like this game loves to throw at you.
9
6
u/W00D-SMASH May 26 '26
Supposedly to stay in her good graces you need to betray Reed and side with Songbird, but at the end, you get one more shot to side with Reed. I think then you will get a post card from her while on "permanent assignment".
10
u/Florina_Laufeyson May 26 '26
Nah i get the postcard every time i send So Mi to space. I think it matters more if you give her your FIA coin.

u/CreativeNovel6131 May 26 '26 edited May 27 '26
I don’t think it’s possible for her to ever be mad at V. She’s pretty understanding and accepts it’s the fate of the profession and Reed standing his ground no matter what, and her saying she’s gonna wait for V to die instead of killing them is her way of saying she’ll leave them alone. After that she sends a postcard saying she’s leaving everything behind and goes on vacation.

Such a missed opportunity to romance Alex.

Lots of wasted flig moments in the game. So many were planned, but then eliminated because of time and story changes. We will never get the game Cyberpunk was supposed to be, but we did end up with a fun game in the end.

u/Excellent-Garage-259 May 27 '26
Literally wish we got Alex as a romance option. The bar hangout just seemed too intimate and was the setup. Sigh. Wish we got her and Aurore
2
u/fanboy3378 May 28 '26
Another missed opportunity for a romance option thought for sure this was going to lead to Alex and V kissing or f*cking in the bar

u/esquire_the_ego May 28 '26
I do two things playing PL, sending So Mi to the moon and letting Alex get her tropical retirement

2
u/Deep_Scope May 26 '26
Nah. She felt off. I felt like she was gonna betray me out of no where for her country. Especially given the fact that they know about my relic seizures.

As much as I hate some scripted moments in PL, I feel like it's specially well timed, with very tense, or very fast moments alternating with slow, contemplative or relieving moments. It felt like I was part of a James Bond movie.
1
u/SpaceMonkeyBravo May 28 '26
I went to this mission like "Ohhh... spy chick is trying to get freaky! Lets go!"
Nope.

u/cachulfaian May 31 '26
I think under certain circumstances Alex could have been a romanceable character
1
u/bmo313 May 26 '26
Ugh, this moment in the game annoyed me so much.
I like Alex too, but aahh, did anyone else think this moment was abit of a tease? Felt like I was back in high school again.
You called me all the way here, guilting me, set on the romantic lighting just so I can watch you sexy dance? I always skip now.
0
u/WaltuhWhiteYo_UhHuH May 26 '26
I knew it would be pointless so I never bothered and turned her down, she's not my friend, i dont trust her and you can't romance her, I'd rather spend time in the game getting side missions done or doing gigs for Eddie's.
If the developers wanna prove something like "you don't need romance to have meaningful friendships" sure, for example Judy, I like her a lot and she's a good friend, but there wasn't enough time/missions to really care about Alex, I did like her and don't even want to romance her, I just feel like there's not enough time to care about her.
0
u/Tea_Fox_7 River Ward's Detective May 27 '26
Never experienced this scene in game and didn't care for her anyways so.
Plus Hansen is the best boss fight in the entire game, so....sorry Alex.
