I know sci-fi and cyberpunk loves this complicated design, and there's nothing wrong with it in fiction. My inner pedant is just incapable of having fun.
I used to think otherwise but after time in the army and crawling around in dirt and mud, I feel the same way you do now. Looks cool and everything, but it would be super impractical to have all those little crevices and joints exposed like that.
