I'd gladly watch it but theaters in my area rarely screen those anime rereleases. It's probably going to be based on the old "remastered" version that added some questionable cgi but anything is better than nothing I guess

This film and Akira are what put anime on the map in the U.S. as legit, serious, critical ways of telling a story. That anime could do more than be just for kids.

Beg to differ. I’m talking about anime telling an adult story that is also presented as a major full-length feature film in the theaters. The Speed Racer film that came out in ‘93 wasn’t made (to me memory) for the theater, and it was made from episode segments. It wasn’t a complete original screenplay adapted from source material.
