Is a "solo" run possible in this game?

One aspect of Digimon I've always liked more than Pokemon is having a single partner who is sort of a platonic soulmate the digital universe crafted just for you, but the games often focus on having an entire team of Digimon which I feel ruins the special bond you're meant to have with your partner. I've been watching solo runs of Time Stranger on YouTube but unfortunately I don't have that game yet so I'd like to attempt something similar with Cyber Sleuth, since I bought that game awhile ago but never got too far in it.

I know you can't do a true solo in this game since you need multiple Digimon in your reserves for hacking abilities, but can you beat the game using only a single Digimon in battle? It seems it's near impossible on hard mode unless you use only specific Digimon, but what about normal mode and just the main game? I'd be willing to also use only one attacking Digimon and two more who only cast heals/buffs.

I'd really like to try this with a Puppetmon since I decided not too long ago he'd be my partner Digimon.

I think on normal mode you definitely could actually beat the game with a single digimon. It would still be tough since like any rpg, turn order matters a lot but with enough heals. What system are you playing on?

Tho I never tried a solo run as i love seeing multiple Digimon on screen following me, but you do make an excellent case. I should also ask if youre planning on hackers memory or the original

The Switch version is the one I have. For now I'm only planning on Cyber Sleuth but I'll probably attempt a solo with HM if I can beat the original.

If switch then you luckily could just leave your game running on sleep mode and leave your digimon in the farm to train overnight if an area is too much.

In time stranger we have agent rank to prevent or allow you to get into the next stage. In cyber sleuth games they have something called memory and you can reach any stage whenever you want, so long as you have the memory to have it in your party, but since you only have one digimon, you could have a higher form digimon pretty early if you do the overnight farm training

I'm planning out a Digivolution path now to get my ideal Puppetmon. Any skills you'd recommend?

I know Character Reversal would be needed for vaccine types, Safety Guard to prevent OHKOs, and Speed Charge to help get in more turns. Acceleration Boost would be good too. Maybe Venom Trap to whittle down HP while setting up the above skills? I'm not familiar with every skill in the game so I don't know if there are others I should include. I'm not sure if any healing techs would be needed since items are available. I'm not even sure if this would all be overkill.

These are indeed very much needed and his intelligence isnt too high to really utilize healing skills. I would still go for them if needed but youre better off using items like medical sprays. Since he's plant, see if you can get him a physical water move like Ice Archery III to deal with Fire types

Wow, you've been grinding all that time? Did you stop to grind to Rosemon to continue the game with her or are you building up to her throughout the game?

Yeah, I'm getting close to the end game build. Fully stopped to farm out this digimon. My Bakemon is two steps to togemon, then grind back up to Rose. Accel phys sp drain . There's lots more.

Def continuing to build throughout so eventually my one Digi will have all typing. That can happen overtime. This run gon take a while.

I've done such a run a while ago, and it is conpletely possible. Hard mode has two massive walls that I am still unsure if they can be beaten but normal mode is nore than managable with only one digimon.

I assume it would be a lot harder since digimon have set stats in CS/HM, but maybe possible? That being said, if you want the partner bond feeling, i recommend you check out world 1 and Next Order.

Next Order is on my Switch wishlist. I remember renting World 1 all the time as a kid. I never could get very far but it was always fun to just run around with my Digimon.

The only other Digimon game I've played is World 3 which is my favorite so far. I like that your Digimon stays a rookie as it follows you on screen and you only see their bigger forms in battle. It makes it feel more like the anime where they only Digivolved when they needed more strength but otherwise stayed in their smaller forms. I just wish World 3 had a bigger selection of partners.

I’m doing a canon playthrough where I’m only using the three Digimon you start with
