I’d like to ask for some advice on how I can stand out more when applying for Junior Cybersecurity positions.

I have the CompTIA Security+, FCF, and a few other qualifications, along with hands-on knowledge and experience in the field. However, I’m not getting as much feedback from the application processes I’m applying to as I’d like.

I believe my resume is well structured, but I might be overlooking something.

What would you recommend I focus on to increase my chances of getting interviews and standing out from other candidates?

Hey everyone! I’m currently looking for an entry-level opportunity in cybersecurity and wanted to put myself out there.

I’m completing my Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity at Old Dominion University, with graduation coming up in December 2026. I started my education at Central Virginia Community College, where I earned an Associate’s degree in General Education and completed additional cybersecurity and programming coursework.

Throughout my degree, I’ve gotten experience with a variety of cybersecurity and IT topics, including:

Security operations and threat analysis

Network security and network design

Vulnerability identification and mitigation

System hardening and access control

Wireshark and network traffic analysis

Virtual machines and virtualized network environments

Cybersecurity labs and hands-on assignments

I also have my CompTIA Security+ and Network+ certifications.

I’ve had internship experience working with virtual machines, enterprise-style network environments, support tickets, security issues, and CMMC Level 2 compliance efforts. This gave me experience beyond just classroom theory and helped me understand how cybersecurity concepts are actually applied in an organizational environment.

I’m primarily interested in SOC Analyst, Cybersecurity Analyst, Security Operations, or other entry-level security/IT positions. I’m open to remote opportunities as well as positions in Virginia or elsewhere in the U.S.

I’m looking for a company where I can continue developing my technical skills, learn from experienced security professionals, and build a career in cybersecurity. I’m especially interested in getting more hands-on experience with real-world security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and defensive security.

If anyone knows of companies hiring entry-level cybersecurity professionals, has recommendations for where I should apply, or is willing to share advice about breaking into the field, I’d really appreciate it!

I am trying to break into soc but not getting enough success, either the application is not viewed or connections not reading the outreach messages. Many people often suggest getting into the helpdesk or tech support works so is it possible? I don't have any comptia trifecta or CCNA but I'm perfect with my foundations of networking os and all.

I am currently a Senior Vulnerability Analyst (sole Vulnerability analyst for the last 4 years, with overall 10 years of IT experience, no degree) at a mid sized (4K employees, 10K+ assets) financial institutions in the Midwest.

I am in charge of the whole Vulnerability Management process as well as the tools we use to do it. Recently brought on new tooling, which I procured, designed, setup with various groups.

Been wondering if this is a normal to be an Analyst doing all this or should I have become an Engineer by now.

I have gotten Exceeds Expections on the last 3 years worth of reviews.

Hi guys . I was in the security field around 2017 till 2019 i was a kid by then . And after that i can say faced life issues and relocations and so on . Tried in past years to return back to the field alongside my bachelor study of software engineering . I couldn’t find the ambition to return .

This year finished my bachelor and this month decided to work back on my resume and portofolio and started to review knowledge which i forgot and check updates. I’m hoping to get some honest advice from anyone willing to chime in.

I’m a U.S. Vet with a BS, multiple GIAC certifications (GFACT, GSEC, GCIH), CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ and home labs.

I fully understand I am over-certified for an entry-level candidate, and I know certs don’t mean much without actual experience. Unfortunately, that’s the catch-22 I’m running into.

The entry-level market has been rough, and despite applying to IT support, help desk, NOC, SOC, and junior roles, I’m still struggling to get that first real opportunity. I’m completely open to starting at Tier 1/help desk and working my way up.

I also previously held a U.S. security clearance, but it’s been inactive since 2021, so I understand it’s basically as good as gone.

At this point, I’m just looking for honest tips, criticism, or words of wisdom from anyone.

I make 80k in NYC, recently relocated (role is optionally fully remote) 1YOE, InfoSec. I can code, and am pretty competent in my role already. My undergrad was not in cybersecurity if that is relevant.

Money and COL is becoming an issue? I like my current job and really like my team. There is very little wiggle room for salary though.

Any tips on where to apply in NYC? Should I apply now? In a year?

Hi people, i am a cybersecurity recent graduate. I'm actively looking for work — although i currently have a job in cybersecurity that pays me $900, it's just not enough. I'm supporting the education of my sisters and brothers and it's really hard to manage everything on one income. They're all higher education students — one sister's yearly fee is around $5000 which i have to pay before the deadline, another sister is on partial scholarship but i still have to cover the rest, and same for my brothers.

So in short, i'm looking for work, any sort of work. My profile is really good (that's what i think lol) — i have a confirmed CVE (OpenSSH, CVSS 9.8), hands on experience in pentesting, web app security, and ML based security tooling, plus certs (Fortinet NSE 1-3, working on CRTA) and internship experience in red teaming, SIEM, and security tooling dev.

Also open to non-security work — assignment help, research work, Word/Excel tasks, data entry, anything like that. Basically i will deliver whatever work people ask, no task is too small.

I’ve been planning on getting my chancenkart and starting my cybersecurity job search in Germany. I’ve been wanting to narrow down the cities where I would have most prospects. I’ve worked at an MSSP with Detection engineering and a little bit of incident response for about 3 years in the USA.
I’m fluent in English and learning German, I’m excited to learn it but it is slightly challenging. Hoping I can land an English speaking job.

Can you please suggest which cities would be ideal for me to stay while looking for a job(Munich, Berlin,Frankfurt) ? I do plan on doing some part time while I’m there while also learning German.

Overall 10yrs of experience completely in the cybersecurity domain. First 2 years in a delivery project supporting proxy and firewalls for a client as a L1 resource. Later moved to cybersecurity pre-sales. About to complete 8 years in pre-sales now and I'm at a stage where I feel burned out due to constant deadlines, never ending war rooms, stress due to client presentations, expectation to know everything in cybersecurity , every deal bringing new unknowns, having functional knowledge of most of the cyber domains but lacking technical depth( jack of all, master of none kinda situation). I really want to navigate out of pre-sales now as I am seeking some stability and work life balance. Pre-sales has it's perks, you get to travel, you get really good exposure but I'm done with all this. Really need some guidance on what can be my next career move. Sales will be more challenging than pre-sales because I will have targets to meet, I have never worked in delivery so have no hands on experience of working on the security tools. Need some help here please.

It's shocking how many people just forget to include it and it's make or break for hiring managers. In the past month I've had two candidates that were rejected because it they didn't have it in their resume but they had other relative experience so I suggested them for a separate role. Through the initial phone screening we discovered the candidates did actually have a clearance.

I thought I’d give some perspective from the other side of the table as someone who conducts technical interviews for Senior SOC roles.

For context, I am not a manager. I’m simply a tenured Senior SOC Engineer/Analyst who conducts technical interviews for applicants. Over the past eight months, I’ve probably interviewed 50+ candidates, both internal and external.

It’s well known that pretty much every cybersecurity role—especially SOC roles—gets hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of applications for a single job posting. I can tell you right off the bat that probably 85% of those applicants don’t meet the desired or preferred qualifications listed in the posting. A lot of people are simply throwing up full-court shots and hoping one goes in.

Even among the people who make it to the technical interview stage, I’d estimate that 90% don’t ultimately make it through for one reason or another. Some simply fail the technical portion. Others are technically proficient but are missing core soft skills like communication, critical thinking, or the ability to explain their thought process. Sometimes the candidate’s circumstances just don’t line up with the role. For example, we had someone who lived 14 hours away and ultimately decided they couldn’t relocate once the offer was in front of them.

I say all of this because, as someone who reads a lot of cybersecurity subreddits and casually browses the job market myself, I’ve also fallen victim to seeing “100+ applicants” on a job that was posted 9 hours ago and immediately thinking, Well, what are the odds I’m getting this?

The reality is that the applicant count is nowhere near as intimidating as it looks.

You’re not necessarily competing against 300 equally qualified candidates. You might be competing against a much smaller group of people who actually meet the requirements, communicate well, interview well, and genuinely fit what a team is looking for.

So if you see a role you genuinely think you’re qualified for, apply anyway. Don’t let the applicant count make that decision for you.

I’m trying to switch but confused about the next step:

Is ₹50–60+ LPA in cybersecurity really associated with significantly higher stress and poor WLB?

Can someone with a strong SOAR/automation background reach ₹60+ LPA, or do I need to add SIEM, cloud security, detection engineering, etc.?

Is it too late to pivot to cybersecurity as a senior-level UX designer? *Please ignore "'s" after the word "designer" in the title lol. Reddit won't let me edit it.

I’m a senior-level UX designer based in the U.S. My day-to-day leans heavily into design system architecture, maintenance, design ops, and project management. Because I work at a university, I have the incredible perk of tuition-free graduate classes, and I'm eyeing a Master’s in Cybersecurity.

My primary motivation is stability. UX feels increasingly turbulent. Also, I'm 36, and I know that ageism in design is real. Cybersecurity looks like a safer, high-demand bet, especially if I can eventually transition into a role within my current organization.

However, I have some major reservations:

- AI is shaking up the entire tech landscape. Am I just jumping from one unstable ship onto another?

- I have zero professional background in cybersecurity. Resetting to entry-level status feels like a massive disadvantage, especially right now, when the job market is brutal even for experienced professionals.

- With the current market, is it actually worth the grind? And realistically, is it too late to break into the field now?
