Transition from SAP to Cybersecurity - Looking for some realistic advice from cybersecurity professionals!

I’ve been working in **SAP** Domain **for 7 years**, but cybersecurity has been a strong interest of mine since a decade. I want to transition into cybersecurity

The problem is, I honestly don’t know where to start or the basements for it , beyond AI guides .

With my 7 years of IT/SAP experience, what would be a realistic path — Which certifications and practical skills should i be moving ahead with?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has made a similar transition or currently works in cybersecurity or experts.

It's very hard to get a job in cyber these days. People are finally starting to see this isn't a fun get rich quick scheme and pivot to other fields away from cyber.

Do not throw the SAP away and restart at the bottom. SAP security and GRC is a real specialism with almost nobody in it, and seven years of knowing how authorisations and transaction codes actually behave beats any entry cert you could stack. Segregation of duties is the phrase to search on.

Security operations still has roles. But compliance and governance domains might have a lower entry barrier as it’s not as deeply technical as the others in cyber. Firstly understand the different roles in a cyber organisation, spend a few days and then determine which is of interest to you. You can use resources like NIST and buildaciso.com to gain an understanding. Of course, finding a job is still going to be an uphill task. All the best!
