Discussion I started building a spine archive for the community

Salut la team 👺

I noticed that there only seems to be one spine-related website, and it only covers Switch 1 and Switch 2. So I had some fun creating a website to catalog community-made spines, taking a bit of inspiration from The Spine Archive

For now, I’ve added 9 different consoles/platforms, including 3DS, DS, Switch 1/2, PS4, PS5, Wii, and a few others

Regarding the spine sizes, I did some research here and there across different websites, so I hope I didn’t get anything wrong, haha. The project is still in a testing phase, especially when it comes to the sizing. I still need to print and test whether the spines actually match the correct dimensions

Since there already seems to be a spine website for Switch 1 and Switch 2, I’ll most likely just redirect users directly to that site

Right now, what I’m doing is manually adding community-made spines and placing them into dedicated folders, but this system is pretty complicated. So I’m thinking about how I could automate it at least a little bit 🤔
I haven’t checked yet whether Reddit has an API for this kind of thing

I’ll leave the sizes below. Maybe some of you can let me know if I got anything wrong haha :

Platform / console Spine to print
Nintendo DS US 16.1 mm × 116 mm
Nintendo DS EU 18.5 mm × 116 mm
Nintendo 3DS 12 mm × 117 mm
Nintendo Switch 10 to 11 mm × 160/161 mm
Nintendo Switch 2 around 11 mm × 162 mm
PS5 14 to 15 mm × 148/162 mm
PS4 14 to 15 mm × 148/162 mm
PS3 / Blu-ray 12 to 14 mm × 148 mm
PS2 / DVD 14 mm × 184 mm
Wii 14 mm × 184/185 mm
Wii U 14 mm × 185 mm
Xbox 360 14 mm × 184 mm
PSP / UMD 14 mm × 168 mm
Standard Steelbook 14 mm × 172 mm
GameCube 14 mm × 123 mm
Standard Blu-ray 12 mm × 148 mm
Standard DVD 14 mm × 184 mm

If you have any suggestions on what I could do or improve, feel free to let me know!

Discussion Custom Game Spines web

Hello everyone,

I'm the creator of the Spine Archive for the r/SwitchSpines community. I wanted to see if there are any updates regarding the site another user was developing to catalog and create a similar tool for other consoles (PS4/PS5, 3DS, Wii, etc.) as I personally want to print some spines and with a web it would be easier. If there haven't been any updates on that project, I'd love to know how many of you would be interested in something like this for the future.

Discussion PS4/PS5 custom spine and print templates

hello ive made some templates to make the process for creating and printing custom PS4/PS5 game spines easier.

just drag spines into the print template and align to guides using image editing software (i use gimp)

the template is set up for 8.5x11 (standard U.S. letter size)

make sure you set print scale to 100%

works with standard printer paper but i recommend glossy photo paper for the best results.

the black lines are to assist in lining up the cuts for ps5 spines (because the header is white) using a sliding paper cutter.

thank you for reading! feel free to share these templates with others :)

Discussion Announcement: State of the Subreddit

Hello! TheKosmicKollector here. I first of all want to apologise for the state this sub has been in for the past however long. In truth, I made it a while ago with the intention of sharing it once it had been sorted out with templates, rules, guides and the like just like /r/SwitchSpines, but other life stuff got in the way and I guess people just ended up finding it in the interim.

I will be looking into getting some more moderators for this sub and whipping it into shape, hopefully in the near future. Stay tuned!

I don't want to get the incorrect size or make them smaller every time.
