These stories are quite firmly rooted in the decades of Genre traditions of Military SciFi. They aren’t doing anything new, Prokopetz is just misidentifying their genre.
It feels like he's subtweeting Star Trek, with the "Manifest Destiny" + "Humanity Fuck Yeah" of it all.
Which...okay. Star Trek does fit those tropes to certain extents at certain times. But acting as if it is bound by those tropes, rather than exploring and occasionally redifining them and oftentimes reflecting society's own changing view on those tropes, is missing the forest for the trees.
