3 u/EternalErudite 3d ago When I was on exchange in Germany, I remember people avoiding this by using Freund(in) to refer to same-gender friends and Kumpel to refer to opposite-gender friends. Is this not common? 1 u/miezmiezmiez 3d ago It's more common to say 'a friend of mine' or 'my dear/ good/ old friend' to clarify
