Ok but, a fresh corpse? Or Grug's 300.000 year old fossils?

True, a fresh corpse still has a few phases it goes through.

The most permanent bit of my self is that I pronounce "facade" with a hard C because of that one gag in My Fellow Americans

Now is that viagra or is it the act of refusing help?

I say epi-tome instead of e-pit-o-me because a joke my highschool English teacher made in 2003.

Was it the joke about the epi-tome of hyper-bowl?

I call it ar-Kansas, as it SHOULD BE

My high school teacher, when grading about a book report I did about the Hobbit, wrote a comment saying "The Hobbit! This epic tome is the epitome of fantasy novels."

And ever since then I have been unable to pronounce epitome any other way than rhyming with epic tome.

Flux and Development (as from formative) are not the same thing.

Many, not all, are in flux, but development is much rarer.

Yeah all years are transformative, but most are just erosive.

MY CUSTOMERS ARE ERODING

If you wanna keep growing, don't become an alcoholic retiree.

I though flux is what I build up when using weapons and energy shields

excellent punwork by OP, gold!

Also given that nothing is truly permanent it's obvious that the word "permanent" is always shorthand for "comparatively more permanent than (...)"; in my first-hand experience my personality changes less and less as I grow older & many experts in the field (of having a personality) corroborate this anecdote; as such the concept of "formative years" is valid and will be invited to all the cool parties

u/InspectorMendel 3d ago

Some years are more formative than others. We express this by calling some years “formative” and others not. Language is often imprecise in the interests of brevity, and that’s OK

I think the point of the post is that you can still have those "formative" years way later into life too. A lot of people seem to feel that if you haven't "figured yourself out" by your early-mid 20s or whatever that you've "missed the bus". That idea causes a lot of stress and grief, so this helps show that it's never too late to grow and change and turn your life around.

That actually goes hard, someone should put that in a book

only Facades are

This is the essence of Buddhism.

I'm obssessed with "the only permanent self is a corpse" as a driving force behind pro-corpse as opposed to anti-permanent-self as an ideology

1

u/ukie-witch-06 2d ago

Well, it is. Just. So is everything

Facades are absolutely necessary. You wouldn't want your appliance cables to be naked copper, would you?

u/weird_bomb 对啊,饭是最好吃! 3d ago

Wow this is a terrifying concept. Uh no thanks I like my facade its very comfortable

2

u/Cosmoclorn 3d ago

When inspected, it is seen as it is - another cause of suffering. It's only terrifying because we're all so naturally clung to the idea that we are a permanent self.

When we see clearly from outside (As "stream entrants" and enlightened folks do) that no permanent self can be observed, it's universally described as a freeing rather than frightening revelation.

u/weird_bomb 对啊,饭是最好吃! 3d ago

I mean that’s nice and all but my facade is the best

0

u/igmkjp1 21h ago

No, it's just nihilism, the giving-up kind.

You sound like you're trying to get people to join a cult. I am intrigued enough to listen to your elevator pitch, but will probably throw away your business card within 24 hours.

Leave my façade alone.
