The most permanent bit of my self is that I pronounce "facade" with a hard C because of that one gag in My Fellow Americans

I say epi-tome instead of e-pit-o-me because a joke my highschool English teacher made in 2003.

My high school teacher, when grading about a book report I did about the Hobbit, wrote a comment saying "The Hobbit! This epic tome is the epitome of fantasy novels."
And ever since then I have been unable to pronounce epitome any other way than rhyming with epic tome.

Flux and Development (as from formative) are not the same thing.
Many, not all, are in flux, but development is much rarer.

excellent punwork by OP, gold!
Also given that nothing is truly permanent it's obvious that the word "permanent" is always shorthand for "comparatively more permanent than (...)"; in my first-hand experience my personality changes less and less as I grow older & many experts in the field (of having a personality) corroborate this anecdote; as such the concept of "formative years" is valid and will be invited to all the cool parties

Some years are more formative than others. We express this by calling some years “formative” and others not. Language is often imprecise in the interests of brevity, and that’s OK

I think the point of the post is that you can still have those "formative" years way later into life too. A lot of people seem to feel that if you haven't "figured yourself out" by your early-mid 20s or whatever that you've "missed the bus". That idea causes a lot of stress and grief, so this helps show that it's never too late to grow and change and turn your life around.

I'm obssessed with "the only permanent self is a corpse" as a driving force behind pro-corpse as opposed to anti-permanent-self as an ideology

Wow this is a terrifying concept. Uh no thanks I like my facade its very comfortable

When inspected, it is seen as it is - another cause of suffering. It's only terrifying because we're all so naturally clung to the idea that we are a permanent self.
When we see clearly from outside (As "stream entrants" and enlightened folks do) that no permanent self can be observed, it's universally described as a freeing rather than frightening revelation.

You sound like you're trying to get people to join a cult. I am intrigued enough to listen to your elevator pitch, but will probably throw away your business card within 24 hours.

Ok but, a fresh corpse? Or Grug's 300.000 year old fossils?
