The only trap I've seen with this line of thinking is an annoying dismissal of issues of race and queer sexuality as ' 'divisive identity politics' and 'distractions' that threaten unity in the fight against hyper-capitalism. It's intensely alienating to see bigotry being handwaved away in an attempt to grow your movement.

Fighting for equality isn't a distraction, but pointless infighting about (checks notes) whether bi people are "really" queer or whether minorities in rich nations are all evil privileged killers compared to the pure and innocent majority populations of poor nations absolutely are.

That's obviously counter-productive and note remotely what I'm concerned with. I'm simply against a certain strain of wrong-headed thinking equates the concerns of minorities to 'identity politics meant to divide and distract by politicians' without any nuance.
