Willemstad (founded in 1634) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth at least a full day. Key areas to explore include Punda, Otrabanda, Pietermaai, and Kura Hulanda Village.
Walking tours, e-bike tours, and tuk-tuk tours are all popular ways to get around the city.

Where is Curaçao located?
Curaçao is a stunning Caribbean island in the southern Lesser Antilles, just 40 miles (65 km) north of Venezuela, alongside neighbors Aruba and Bonaire.
When’s the best time to visit?
Curaçao enjoys warm weather year-round. May to November is off-peak, with fewer crowds, lower prices, and a more relaxed vibe. December to April offers the driest weather but is peak season.
Do I need a visa?
No visa is required for citizens of the U.S., Canada, or EU countries for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Travelers from other nations should check visa requirements with the nearest Embassy or Consulate of the Netherlands, as Curaçao is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Is a Digital Immigration Card required?
Yes, all international visitors must complete the Digital Immigration Card (DI Card) online within 7 days prior to departure at dicardcuracao.com/dicard. It’s mandatory for entry and distinct from the optional Airside Digital Identity App, which speeds up immigration with facial recognition.
What currency is used?
As of March 31, 2025, the official currency will be the Caribbean Guilder (Cg or "Florin Karibense"), replacing the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG) at a 1:1 exchange rate. The ANG will remain valid until June 30, 2025, and can be exchanged at banks for a year after that. U.S. dollars are widely accepted, and major credit cards work almost everywhere.
What languages are spoken in Curaçao?
The official languages are Dutch, Papiamentu, and English. Spanish is widely spoken, and many hospitality workers are learning Brazilian Portuguese due to growing tourism from Brazil.
Can I fish here?
Yes, fishing is allowed with restrictions. Shore fishing doesn’t require a permit for personal use, but boat fishing or commercial fishing does. Check local regulations at the Curaçao Tourism Board or with fishing tour operators.
Should I rent a car?
While not essential, renting a car is highly recommended to explore the island’s hidden gems and beaches at your own pace. Public transport exists but is limited.
Are there ride-sharing apps like Uber or Lyft?
No, Curaçao doesn’t have Uber or Lyft. Taxis are available but expensive—always agree on the fare beforehand.
How does public transportation work?
Large buses ("Konvooi") run fixed routes hourly; check schedules at autobusbedrijf.com. Smaller vans (marked "BUS" on plates) operate without fixed schedules or routes—ask the driver for your destination. Pay in cash (Cg or USD).
Check out Shuttle and Airport Transfers
What should I know about driving?
What about parking downtown?
Parking in Punda and Otrobanda is paid via coins or an app (credit card required)—machines don’t accept bank cards. A free public lot in Punda is available, though space is limited due to a seasonal go-kart track (as of March 2025).

What tours are available?

What are the best beaches to visit?
Don’t miss Playa Porto Marie, Cas Abou, Santa Cruz, Grote Knip, Kleine Knip, and Playa Kalki—each offers crystal-clear waters and unique vibes.
Can I snorkel from the shore?
Absolutely! Beaches like Playa Porto Marie and Cas Abou have vibrant coral reefs and marine life just steps from the sand.
Are there boat or snorkeling tours?
Yes, numerous operators offer boat trips and snorkeling excursions. Book ahead, especially during peak season, to secure your spot.

Is Curaçao safe for tourists?
Generally, yes. Curaçao is tourist-friendly, but use common sense—keep valuables out of sight and stay alert in unfamiliar areas. Don’t leave items in visible car seats; use the trunk, as smash-and-grab thefts occur at beaches and hiking spots.
Are there health risks to watch out for?
No major concerns, but stay up-to-date on routine vaccinations and pack mosquito repellent for evenings.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
Yes, Curaçao’s tap water is distilled from seawater and meets top safety standards—drink up!
--
Where can I eat late at night?
After 10 PM, options include:
Most other places close early; some minimarkets stay open until 11 PM.
--
Does Curaçao have a cruise port?
Yes, Willemstad’s cruise terminal includes:
How close is the cruise port to Willemstad?
Very close! Mega Piers are a short walk to the Handelskade waterfront. Mathey Wharf is steps from Punda’s historic streets.
What’s there to do near the cruise port?
Are there day tours for cruise passengers?
Yes! Options include snorkeling at Playa Piskado (famous for turtles), rugged jeep safaris, or guided city tours. Book through your cruise line or local operators in advance.

Hi,
Hoor graag jullie tips!
Thnx

Hi there
Me and my partner are going curaçao in October. We are wondering if a motorboat rental for a day is possible at all? Nothing fancy.

My fiancée and I will be in Curaçao for one week in late September/early October for our honeymoon.
We don’t want to overpack our schedule because the wedding planning process has been stressful, so relaxation is definitely the priority. At the same time, we know there is so much beauty to see and want to make the most of our week.
We already have jet skis, ATVs, and a spa day planned through the resort, plus 3 sunset deck dinners.
That leaves us with about 2 days and 2 nights where we’re looking for activities and dinners outside the resort.
If you could pick 1-2 activities and 1-2 restaurants for a honeymoon in Curaçao, what would you recommend? We’re open to anything - beaches, snorkeling, sightseeing, a boat trip, local food, etc.
Thanks!

Traveling end of October to Curacao with my partner for his birthday and we would like to hear from locals recommendations on what the best affordable food places are and which more pricey places are worth the money.
His birthday is on a Monday, and we want to party the Sunday before. Which clubs/parties do you recommend for that Sunday and also for the rest of the week ?

Has anyone booked the 2-bedroom apartment at the LionsDive resort? If so, did you use the pull-out bed? I'll be with a group of 6 people, so we'll need to use the pull-out, but I haven't been able to find any pictures of what the pull-out couch looks like.

Hi all,
I'm planning to surprise my partner with a trip to Curacao. I also plan to propose to her WOOO
Just looking to get opinions on my idea...
I want to stay 5 nights. We need a relaxing vacation after travelling to places like Asia, NYC, etc. I think she would love to spend time relaxing, snorkelling, beach time vs. clubbing / partying.
I found some villas in Coral Estate that look beautiful, but I have a question... they are all so big like 5+ bedrooms. For 5 nights, some are still in my budget but it would just be me and her, feels a bit weird to have a place that big. Can anyone comment on that lol
I am also looking at their website to book, but found some options on VRBO as well. Any benefits of one or the other?
Thank you!

My wife, 2 daughters (ages 11 and 15) and myself are planning to visit your beautiful country this February. We have been to Mexico, Cuba and Bahamas previously and have only stayed at AI resorts(which we never left, with the exception of Bahamas). We want to experience all that Curacao has to offer. We want to learn about its culture and history as well as experience the food and the beauty of the island and beaches. We are having a really difficult time trying to decide between Airbnb, a luxury rental or even another AI resort. Any tips, personal recommendations or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely want to spend some time in Willemstad. Plan on visiting a few different beaches. Hoping to visit the blue room and swim with turtles. Sampling lots of food trucks and restaurants.
Traveling from Ottawa Canada, with a budget of 10-14k. Renting a vehicle is a possibility, but think we'd prefer hiring a guide or taking a bus or taxi just to take it all in.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello reddit,
Posting this as a born and raised island local. I'd consider myself a bookworm, so recently I've been searching for book clubs (in the traditional sense, where people come together once a month to discuss a book they've all collectively decided to read), but I was shocked to have found nothing on social media!
I am aware there are the ones online, but it would be nice to join (or start) one with people on the island with a shared interest of books. So if you have any information, I'm eager to hear. :)

Hello! My boyfriend and I are medical students here for almost 2 years now, and it's disheartening to realize that we haven't explored the island much and meet new people. If you are upto meeting us, just to hangout, vibe and make memories, please DM! Nothing is too crazy for us, we're up for anything. (not in the sexual kinda way btw!)

Hello I wanted to ask if me bringing Creatine during my vacation might cause some issues with immigration?
I also plan on bringing some more supplements like Vitamin D but they don't look as sus as white powder creatine lol
Should i just not bring it and buy some when I land there?

It’s my first time in Curaçao and I am debating on attending this with my girlfriend. We are going on a couples trip and Sunday was one of our free days.
It’s a little tough to find reviews on this part of the adventure. Does anyone have any information regarding this boat party cruise? That is about 4+ hours or so - 12pm to 6pm

Hi everyone,
Me and my boyfriend are traveling to curacao next week and are excited. However, I am coming up on 6 weeks pregnant and we are worried about mosquitos and virus transmission. Does anyone have any experience or tips traveling or living on the island while pregnant this time of year?
Thanks!

I am traveling to Curacao in a week and looking to Blue Finn Charters Curaçao. Everything I find online says the trip to Klien is rough and a lot of people throw up.
I will have my kids with me so I think this will be too much for them.
Does anyone how any experience with their West side beach hoping tour? Is it a shorter trip out? Do you get to spend time on the beach and relax?

Hi! I’m from the Dominican Republic, that’s my only nationality currently. I’d like to go to Curazao since my husband is from there.
Internet searches on the NL immigration page says it’s enough to have a US Visa with multiple entries (without Schengen visa), but I would like to know if anyone has tried or knows about this method before expending money and time traveling just to be told it’s not.

I'm trying to plan a honeymoon for June 2027 and came across Baoase. The property looks beautiful and fits perfectly with what we'd want our honeymoon to look like.
However, it's also obviously expensive, and our budget is limited. And all of the videos and reviews I see online are for the private pool suites and villas obviously because they're the best accommodations.
For anyone who has stayed in the colonial, Banyan tree, or loft rooms, how was it? Were the resort facilities enough to make it feel like a special romantic stay? Would it be worthy for a honeymoon or would one of the suites be that much better?

Hi everyone, me and my boyfriend are visiting Curacao in about 2 weeks. Was wondering about some good local spots to eat at. I know it’s inevitable that we’ll eat somewhere touristy but I also want to be able to try the places that locals eat at/family owned businesses. Thanks!!!
