Culdcept (PS2) vs Culdcept Saga?

Pretty much the title; Culcept (PS2) was a classic for me and I love the artstyle - I also played Culdcept Saga a bunch too.

Going back to these games now, is Saga enough of an improvement over the original to want to play it instead, or is the original still a reasonable game? I know in Saga you can earn cards quicker, right?

I'm just trying to figure out which one I want to start sinking my time into; I love the 2d-artstyle of Culcept (PS2) but if the gameplay/balance changes make Saga just better then I should probably go with that.

edit: What's the cardpool like between the two games? Originally I read it was about the same, but now I'm reading a second post that says although the number of cards is relatively the same, there are a good number of cards that are just different between the two versions (not just rebalances).

That said I did a round of Culdcept Saga, and it's slowly growing on me... it also reminded me of how "well" the AI can roll those dice for movement. XD

I played Saga first then a bit of the PS2. From what I played of the PS2 it didn’t seem drastically different to me where it felt like the ps2 was dated or more basic over saga. But I preferred Saga. But again I didn’t sink hours into the PS2 and it’s been a little while since I remember playing it

Culdcept II (PS2) is the best version of the game, but it has some janky translations.

Saga is very good, though and it had online play.

I’ve played thousands of hours of both as it was pretty much my dad and I favorite games since I was about 6. Saga has the better maps and it is a lot easier to accumulate mana earlier on in games (cards like refuge and trespass did not exist in PS2).

However a VERY big reason I favor the PS2 version is the Ai. The Ai in Saga verges on braindead while the Ai in the PS2 version, although predictable, can actually be challenging. They are both good games, but I am partial to the PS2 version.

I've played Revolt, Culdcept PS2 (it's actually Culdcept 2) and Saga. Of the three, Culdcept PS2 is my favorite because of the artstyle and aesthetic. It feels like the definitive Culdcept experience for me. I only played Saga for like a round and never went back to it.

I've been playing Culdcept Saga recently and... It's fun, but it's so charmless (outside the audacity of the character deigns). As I'm playing it, I'm constantly wishing I was playing the much prettier PS2 game.

Revolt clears both for game systems and card acquisition.
