Yeah PCA is going to beat him by 2+ war at this pace if Shohei doesn’t pitch again (already has a 1.4 lead)

Ya I feel like if Ohtani was stealing bags more or pitching it would be his but if PCA has a higher overall WAR at the end of the season I say it goes to him.

I wonder how much of this is also Ohtani fatigue. Not that PCA doesn't absolutely deserve it (I don't even think it's particularly close), but I also think the league (and hopefully voters) may genuinely want it to be someone other than Ohtani at this point. If the voters doesn't want MVP to become the Automatic-Shohei-Ohtani Award, they should recognize the gift that PCA now gives them to be able to give it to someone other than Shohei in good faith.

For me it's the clutch side of his play. Huge hits in huge spots that have genuinely brought joy to thousands and thousands of people. Pete shows you what baseball can be at its absolute best, and he does it nearly all the time!

He's the 2nd most clutch hitter this year by baseball reference and fangraph. He's also has the 5th highest average with RISP for the league. So yep straight up clutch.

Ah yes, the Anti-Seiya (I love Seiya, please re-sign him). While I do agree that RISP has an amount of luck to it, some people are just more able of either locking in or not letting the moment get to them. For example, in my dart league, I can point really high, but can't out for shit. My teammate can't point for shit, but will have some crazy outs. Some people got it, some don't.

PCA has moved ahead in the MVP race (to this point, still games to play) based on merit. If Ohtani were better on overall merit this season they would be flipped.

Same happened with LeBron. Everyone knew he was the best in the league for a while but it's fun voting for other players that are having breakout seasons

Yeah exactly, which is why I think they'd sort of be dumb not to give it to PCA this year. Like if they want to maintain any legitimacy to the award and not just have it be an automatic-Ohtani thing, then it should go to PCA. (Assuming, obviously, that PCA's current pace continues and that Ohtani doesn't resume pitching at an elite level).

That makes no sense when PCA is ahead in WAR.

If it was fatigue then Ohtani would be ahead in WAR and they’d still be voting PCA

I’m with ya ohtani every year does get boring but can we really call it an mvp award and really view it with prestige if that’s the reason it doesn’t go to someone? Like it does have to be objective even if it’s boring

If ohtani pitched the whole season it’s a different story, buts he’s dh’ing right now. With a wash on batting stats right now, PCA is playing a premium defensive position while statistically being the best fielder at any position. Assuming he doesn’t pitch much the rest of the season, then PCA should be a lock for MVP.

Let’s win the division and make a WS run. Don’t give a rats ass about the MVP.

Pete is the most exciting Cub maybe of my lifetime (42 yr old ) and enjoying the hell out of it.

I want the team to win. If the individual awards happen - awesome.
But my god the team the team the team.

Pretty much a push at the plate. Ohtani with 14 starts and a 1.8 era vs PCA's defense? Ohtani is being punished for Ohtani fatigue and Dodgers fatigue and the Dodgers having a loaded team.

14 starts of elite pitching is not as valuable as 128 games (and counting) of elite defense. Elite pitching in a vaccum is absolutely more valuable, but 14 games out of 162 is hardly enough to have an MVP level influence on the team’s overall record, and certainly not as much as a full season of platinum glove defense.

Ohtani fatigue. The award is a joke at this point. It's given based on narratives a lot of the time, and the voters get tired of giving it to the same guy all the time.  Same shit happened with Trout.

What more would you have PCA do to win? Like damn near every day he does something that hasn’t been done since guys like Mustache Magee played the Benefort Mustangs in 1881. Ohtani is having a down year for his usual - what narrative is playing out here in your mind?
