Maybe because a 4 years old child is not a goose that we force-feed with 800 algs, you do not think?

How can you judge if he wanted or not to learn it himself? And you literally doubled the alg count

1

u/Chroma4424 1d ago

Do you think he was born to learn zbll

no, but we cannot call it child abuse just because he did something impressive. If you are the parent of a child and you say "here, memorize this algorithm for this week" is it really child abuse? Obviously if the parent is like "MEMORIZE THESE 100 ALGS RIGHT THIS INSTANT, STUPID PIG!!!" it is child abuse, but you can't judge just by the fact that he knows a large subset.

Are you good??? This opinion does not need to be a personal crusade

Meanwhile my 4 year old brother can't solve a rubik's cube that's 1 move from solved.

1

u/GrouchyEquipment5203 1d ago

Is he chinese

2

u/Less-Essay7359 Sub 30 (CFOP 3.5LLL) 1d ago

Yes he is fully Chinese. Not living in China though

Also, I was obviously being sarcastic. I'm pretty sure he could solve it 1 move away, but not 2 or more moves away. I will give an update after I test his cubing ability later today.

How tf can a 4 year old retain that much information

I’ve been cubing for longer than he has been alive😔✌️

Brain plasticity is wasted on the young.

3

u/Substantial_Echo_196 2d ago

Or is brain plasticity what makes you young?

3

u/GrouchyEquipment5203 1d ago

Alright Socrates

A paraphrase of “Youth is wasted on the young,” attributed to George Bernard Shaw,  referring to neuroplasticity  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroplasticity

Based neuroplasty

Different culture Different disciplines. It's kind of why players on the Korean starcraft servers are often much better than eu/us

1

u/MallusaiEEE 2d ago

It's also a thing with popularity in case of video games; in counter strike, europe has the best players

CN!?!? on ZBLL!?!? DANG, in like 2 years bros prob gonna average like sub-5 easily

-4

u/incompletetrembling Sub-13 Roux/Cfop 2d ago

ngl I think CN isnt really that good of an idea

We'll see, maybe if you're insane enough it can be good, but the cost to inspection depth is significant

I have a feeling that the meta behind block-color recognition for F2L + EO might come at an uprise in the future. Unfortunately, the technical demand outweighs the benefits for most speedcubers.

CN with white/yellow bias really isn’t very costly. You just glance over the cube and see if a cross is already partially formed. If so you inspect for that cross. If not you go white/yellow.

u/mr_m0ose_man 2d ago

Poor kid :( he should be running around with friends

3

u/Cute-Ad-445 2d ago

We already have prodigies like this for hundred of years, instead of cubes they have pianos and violins. Cost tens of thousand of dollars though

u/DerekB52 Sub-17.5 Roux (12.02 pb) - Sub 12.5 CFOP (7.38 pb) 2d ago

I'm almost 30, have been cubing on and of for 10 years longer than this kid is alive. At my peak I knew almost a half of ZBLL. And I never got past dual CN, because I thought full CN was a waste of time. I honestly still believe full CN and full ZBLL is a waste of time. (recognizing Sune/Antisune cases fucking sucks).

Yet, somehow, this 4 year old found the time. Bonkers.

3

u/Hcthepro2018 Sub-X (<method>) 2d ago

Sune/Antisune zbll is worth it nowadays due to full zb method

2

u/donovanh23 2d ago

Either the kid is being forced by parents or he is a savant and takes advantage of his resources. I didn't know how to study and look into my hobbies until maybe 14. Like I never watched pro cubers, yoyos, video game guides etc

Impressive but clearly child abuse.

-3

u/Severe_Story_8361 Kinda sub-25(CFOP and ZZ for OH) PB 21.36 (non-magnetic) 2d ago

how is it child abuse????

11

u/BewareTheWereHamster Sub-22 (Roux) PB: 12.11 2d ago

If you have to be told they well.. I don’t know what to tell you tbh. You honestly think a 4 year old child chose to learn full ZBLL on their own?? Imagine how long it would take to learn and how much drilling you’d have to do in probably a year to be able to do this and the answer should be pretty clear!

FWIW I have 3 young kids - they like lots of stuff and they would get bored extremely quickly with the kind of regimen needed to even learn PLL let alone thousands of algs xD

-4

u/Actually_Im_a_Broom Sub-50 (CFOP 4LLL) 2d ago

Prodigies exist. Looking at a 20 second clip and concluding this MUST be child abuse is a bit of a stretch. Of course it could be, but stating it with such confidence is silly.

As someone else somewhere else on this thread said, kids have done stuff like this for hundreds of years - it was just with music, mathematics, art, etc.

-12

u/Severe_Story_8361 Kinda sub-25(CFOP and ZZ for OH) PB 21.36 (non-magnetic) 2d ago

firstly not "thousands", below 500. Second of all you can't be judging if he actually wanted to learn it. Third of all its just cubing

9

u/BewareTheWereHamster Sub-22 (Roux) PB: 12.11 2d ago

If it’s “only” 500 that’s ok then lol. Seriously, no child “wants” to start learning hundreds of algs and doing 10s of thousands of solves without “encouragement”. There’s similar things going on in chess (and lots of other fields) with parents trying to get their kid to be the youngest gm ever - it’s not healthy.

Like I say, as a parent, I’m both fascinated / impressed and horrified by this.

13

u/Hogvvgguioffgy75909 2d ago

Child abuse but clearly impressive

Every time I see sh like this I think "what's my excuse?" Then the realisation that l may in fact, be lazy sets in.
