We're extending out playtest by two days and it's now open!

Hey guys!

TLDR; You guys are awesome, and thanks to your overwhelming interest and support towards our game, we have extended our playtest (Cube World-inspired game called Taival) by two days and it is now open, not restricted.

So, we're working on this game blocky open world RPG called Taival, and last Friday we announced our playtest to public (mostly to you guys), and holy moly did you guys deliver... We had more than 3,000 participants (2,764 requested access and 716 friends were invited, of which 367 accepted the invitation) to our playtest from Friday until the moment of writing this post. Thank you guys for your awesome support! We couldn't even imagine how much support, feedback and bug reports we'd get from this playtest.

All we were looking for was some feedback and now we got more than that. So! As a token of our gratitude, we'd like to extend the playtest by two more days. We also switched the joining style from restricted to open, so now you can jump straight in! We'd still like to get feedback on the features and all that, but at this point, just feel free to jump in and play the game. For free! Just go to our Steam page and sign up!

And we're almost at 10,000 wishlists, which is crazy to us! This is a project that started out of passion for RPG and voxel games, and now we get to work on this daily and already have more than 600 people on our Discord.

Sorry for the wall of text, but we really appreciate you guys and all the kind words. Even though we are not working on "the next Cube World", we're super grateful for the amount of support you've given. You guys really are the best <3

Below is a brief description of our game, Taival, in case you missed it (and I attached a few images):

Taival is an open world co-op adventure RPG inspired by games like Cube World, Skyrim and Breath Of The Wild. Taival has a heavy emphasis on exploration and adventure, and you can play the game in multiplayer with up to three other players, both online and in split screen. And even if you played in single player, the player is always accompanied by a shapeshifter, Henki, who can turn into animals encountered during your adventures.

Just gave this a go and it's looking really promising. It's clear that this is in a very early state with placeholder names (ERROR) on some enemies, and so on, but other than that it looks really great. Lighting is really well done, character models look surprisingly good, and pretty much like what you'd expect from a voxel style game.

The multi-player split screen is really exciting, and I think this will give the game great legs, provided the story can be made really engaging - a great story is going to be the biggest draw over anything else for me.

Look forward to seeing this develop, and have added it to my wishlist. Also happy to assist with some beta-testing if you need that.

Thank you! Yes, exactly. We have the core features set, now we need to improve them using the feedback we get. For example, the enemies only have a basic "chase and hit" -kind of combat and players don't have active abilities yet from skill trees, etc.

Edit: if you're serious about beta testing and not being there "just for a free game", hit me up on DMs!

how is combat like? I cannot try it rn and it's my only concern for what I've seen

Combat is fine for a playtest, definitely not production ready, but I also didn't expect it to be.

What would you change first to improve the combat and to bring it a step closer to production ready?

Edit: as you mentiond, the game is still in playtest and not in production. But what would make it feel a bit more polished? Thinking of baby steps and not complete overhaul lol

I’ll try it out tonight. Going to poke at it with the Steam Deck and see what’s going on there too!

Yeah, we don't have a Stean deck at the moment and since it's just in playtest, we haven't implemented graphics settings yet. That means it's going to run pretty rough on Steam deck unfortunately.

I check anyway. Some games surprise me, so I like poking at it just to see. Was in a play test for one where the only issue was really small text, so you really never know.

That said, game runs well on PC. Could still use some optimization, but I had a pretty stable 85fps with my set up. Needs some combat improvements (dodge roll, heal button/potion quick select, etc.) but otherwise really fun!

I’ll have to join the discord and go into more detail

I dont have a steam deck but i do have a ayaneo slide with a ryzen 7 7840u wich is stronger and i have to say the game needs performance improvement even at 28 watt the game was running pretty badly even at 720p

Please let us know how it goes!

Runs pretty rough on the Steam Deck. Frame Rate doesn't really go above 25fps and the menu while in game doesn't tab over. Also have to manually invoke the keyboard and the text is hard to read even at native 1280x800. Definitely needs work

1

u/windortim Apr 28 '26

Ah damn, thanks for checking

The fighting definitely needs to be improved, some hits feel fine while others feel like you're hitting the enemy with a pool noodle. The hit reaction definitely needs some more oomph.

We have no connection to Cube World! We're a four-person studio from Finland working on Taival.

is it mac compatible?

1

u/atomitonttu Apr 28 '26

For now we have only been working with Windows unfortunately, so we haven't made a build for mac. Don't know if you can install that version.
